Having heard about this wonderful social enterprise, I finally made the trek across London to try this Café – and it did not disappoint. The bakery is slightly off the beaten track, but the lady walking down the road with a sourdough loaf in hand reassured me it was just around the corner. The road is a little sleepy sideroad - although patrons are jolted awake with the delicious coffee made in collaboration with New Ground Coffee, a social enterprise that provides employment and training for ex-offenders. I tried the ham and cheese focaccia toastie (which was warmed up to be olive oily in all the right ways, and set a precedent to expect all my focaccia to include aubergine from this point onwards), a vegan peanut butter cookie (a chewy sugary treat that would rival any non-vegan counterpart) and a cinnamon bun straight out the oven, which was big enough to enjoy the next morning for breakfast too. I enjoyed all of the above in their hidden courtyard behind the shop, providing a little sanctuary of calm in the hustle and bustle of London, with a soundtrack of the neighbour singing along to some Sunday morning tunes. Would highly recommend (it might require many trips to try all the delicious goods on the menu). Thank you, I’ll be back! More...

Lovely little bakery where everything is made on the premises, in fact you can see it all being made. It feels like a kitchen straight out of the home with a cafe attached to it. We had a slice of orange cake and a toffee cake, they were a little on the sweet side but washed down with an unsweetened black americano they went down a treat. Very cosy sofa in the back room with cushions all over it made us feel like we didn't want to leave. The staff that were very friendly. Child friendly with a (small) buggy park in the back room also. It's a little off the beaten track but I would highly recommend you find this place, you will not be disappointed. More...

I have found myself wandering around this area that at first it seemed there were no options for a nice cafe and i had to stay there more than one hour. I searched on google for cafes nearby and i visited Luminary Bakery. It was a really good option as they have a variety of sweets to eat and drinks like coffee or chocolate. The staff is very good and there are comfortable seats and sofas where you can enjoy your drink. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the time i passed there and i highly recommend this lovely place. The prices are very normal and it is value for money. More...

Very nice sourdough bread, but why not get a bread slicer? Surely when you start a bakery that's the first thing you invest in? Very friendly staff who make you feel welcome. It's pricey though, so with that profit please buy that slicer! If you do I'll give you another star! Thank you * More...

I ordered the Lemon and Blueberry Celebration Cake for a colleague's 60th birthday. It was simply fantastic. It was ready right on time and looked/tasted incredible. A number of my coworkers have already asked for the bakery's details. It is rare to find a cake that an office can so universally enjoy. More...

Great cafe and baked good but if you go during the week it’s packed out with people working there on their laptops slipping on a half cold latte they brought three hours ago, leaving practically no space for everyone else. They need a balance.

Luminary provided a beautiful wedding cake for our wedding earlier this month. The cake meant so much to us and all of our guests. They loved hearing about Luminary's story and art of giving back in the Hackney area. I also frequent this cafe all the time and just really enjoy working from it when I can. All of the sweets and savoury delicacies are absolutely delicious and lick your lips good. Thank you to the luminary team! More...

A really lovely small cafe. There's free wifi, a charming patio garden in the back, and water carafes available for self serve. Not to mention the quality of the goods -- the chai latte was one of the best I've ever had and the cheese scone was delightfully light and flavorful, without being greasy. There are two different interior seating spaces, so it's a good place to enjoy a rest and have a bit of quiet time or catch up with friends. More...
