Lucid Rhino Web Design Q&A
What makes a great website?
A great website is an effective website, so it really depends on the site owner's goal. It should present whatever's on offer (be it products, a cause or simply information) in a clear and attractive manner. It should be optimised for search engines, all major browsers and devices and visitors with disabilities, and finally it should be secure and simple for the administrator to manage and publish content.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
What's your vision for your business/cause/charity (etc)?
What problem are you trying to solve with a website?
How confident are you about maintaining your website after I've built it?
How will you make your decision on whether you go for my pitch?
What do you love most about your job?
Creating art I can be proud of and work that does its job well. I enjoy learning new things, and there's always more to learn with web development!
Why should our clients choose you?
I have plenty of experience building Wordpress sites for a range of clients with a wide range of needs, from charity to e-commerce to blogging. I've managed a team of creatives with diverse talents so I know how to draw many creative elements together to deliver.

Website Design and Development
This is my bread-and-butter. I’ll never churn out an ill-considered and pre-made solution. I work with clients to make sure I understand their needs so their new website really performs and provides a great return on their investment. I can also offer to host your website and manage web domains on a monthly subscription basis. My sites are hosted on super-fast UK based SSD with practically unlimited storage space (subject to normal usage). It means peace of mind for your website. Integrating e-commerce functionality with your website’s an option too if you’re looking to sell physical products, event tickets, downloads, subscriptions, or even to simply accept donations. This can integrate with all major payment types (Visa, Mastercard etc).
Business Branding Strategy
There are three very basic things every business needs to be noticed: a message, a decent logo and a website. If you have the first we can develop it together into a smashing branding plan. I’ve developed an extensive rebranding strategy and led designers in developing a wide array of brand media. This covered logos, typography, printed media, website styles, social media styles and messaging. This is one area that’s often neglected or developed in an ad-hoc fashion, but a solid visual brand strategy, including identity and messaging guidelines, can make all the difference. Good design communicates quality.
In addition to my LucidRhino work about half of my time is spent as a hired copywriter. I have years of experience with most kinds of writing, from thoughtful blog posts to product descriptions, sales copy, poetry and press statements. Although I haven’t yet been asked to write a children’s book, I live in hope.

Meeting Rooms, W1
Being London-based, this site had a lot of competition, so SEO was their top priority for attracting new leads. The overall site organisation and website speed played an important part in their SEO strategy to rank well in search engines. After building this site I advised the client in adding content and in regards to both the onsite and offsite aspects of their SEO strategy. Since going live their website has been a great success, making good revenue for the charity that owns the property.
A church wanted a unified design concept for several ministry websites, each being differentiated through colour schemes and logos. Their current websites needed rebuilding for forwards compatibility and WordPress was the ideal choice. Their sites were also looking a little dated so they took the opportunity to refresh the look. Building on their established brand I redesigned their site from scratch, producing seventeen templates for external development in WordPress. I wrote up an extensive accompanying detailed specification to make the development process as smooth as possible for both the client and developer. Colour scheme palettes, a typography scheme and user interaction design were included in the specification. These are just a few of the layouts I designed. The extensive redesign created a unique website that didn’t “look like WordPress”, while still providing the powerful tools that WordPress has to offer. The client has since used the template for all ten of their main websites.
Modern, responsive blog
After proposing a concept for the client I set up, customised and migrated content from several sources to deliver this simple, clean and fully mobile responsive blog. I continue to host and support this site.
