Great day out , short of picnic tables and seats around the gardens it's a big area for poor walkers,Electric mobility hire scooters would be great advantage.

Beautiful place. Dogs are more than welcome so you can go in to the castle and walk around the gardens at the rear which are huge so it's an all day trip if you want to see everything and read everything.

So much to do and its absolutely amazing what's been done to restore this place! The hidden, 'lost castle ' at the back of the castle after acres of grass, through the woids is magical, and such fun foe the kids

Brilliant place to visit. The gardens are really well kept and lovely to walk around. There is a lot to see, comfy shoes are required to make the most of it. Good cafe and the highlight for the kids was the amazing play castle which kept them busy for ages (and the big kids enjoyed it too!) More...

A great place to spend a day. The castle ruins are beautiful to wander through and the grounds and gardens and woodland walks are outstanding. There is a cafe type restaurant and I can highly recommend the cakes although they also serve hot food and sandwiches too. The grounds are also great for picnics. The views are outstanding if you walk along the lawns and cut through the woodlands to the right. There are rope swings tied to trees on the left and if you walk along the centre path after the lawns you come to an amazing adventure playground. It is built of wood and is very big and has various levels and is suitable for all ages. There is a cafe on one side selling icecream and drinks. A very enjoyable and beautiful place to spend a day. The bonus part is that the Lakeland Bird of Prey centre is not very far away too. More...

Had a brilliant day out here whilst visiting the lake district. Reasonably priced for what's on offer. The kids loved the amazing timber play area at the top of the map and the views over the river lowther were amazing. The museum area of the castle were informative and intresting and offered a good insight into life before the ruin. Outside the museum and into the garden in the ruin were incredible. We followed the map and ticked off everything that was there, kids loved the zip lines and the tree swings. We ate in the cafe near the entrance as the one up near the play area wasnt very varied for what we needed, although quite pricey, the better range was more tempting and convenient. Although a better layout near the door and more drinks choices would be a good move. Free parking, free maps, and plenty do. Well deffo return. Made memories at every turn. More...

Amazing day out!! Highly recommended to anyone. Beautiful grounds, sumptuous estate, intriguing history and the kids were overwhelmed with the fantasy adventure playground in the forest. The toilet facilities were impeccable and disabled access was excellent. The cafe in the forest was reasonably priced and the picnic area was fabulous with benches made from large tree stumps. We will certainly be visiting again! The only negative was that there are not enough benches around the grounds on which to rest. More...

Lovely big garden to walk around. Amazing flower displays and the new children's playground is huge - in sure this is why most families go here. Shame the Japanese gardens and other areas are unfinished or have been left to return to nature, which means only half of the gardens are in use More...

Easy to find, money spent on access roads and car parking. Cycle rental, lovely cafe, guided tours. Dogs welcome everywhere. Place overflowing with history, fascinating read through the exhibition. Acres of well kept grounds, gardens and outbuildings. Variety of countryside cycling and walking routes where Lowther Castle can be a pit stop. You can spent half a day or just fe hours there. Adventure Land for kids withing the grounds. More...

Wonderful place. Yes it's not cheap to "get in" to the gardens, but its wonderful, relaxing, well maintained. Its a beautiful place with a hidden gem at the back for the kids, a huge play fort! Its easy to spend all day there. They also host events too, so check the website and diaries, as you can tailor your trip to things going on. More...
