Visited this wonderful find on Good Friday with my daughter, fantastic wine (Malbec) & really appreciated the knowledge of the gentleman serving us. He selected our cheese board by asking questions of our taste then explained what they were and where the cheeses originated. Such a relaxing lunch. Thank you, we will definitely be back More...
It was about this time last year we found love cheese and absolutely loved it. Been to york a few times since and no trip is without a visit to love cheese. Today as always we had a lovely platter and some lovely wine. What makes love cheese different is (a) the quality of the cheese and wine and (b) and this is the most important part, the absolute passion of what they sell! There are many wine bars in York but no place come close to Love Cheese. If you got to york there are three things you must do, Minster, Jorvik and Love Cheese! Open up in Durham soon please More...

This for me was exactly what we were looking for on a relaxed day around York with my wife and 7 month old daughter. Basically cheese was on my mind all week, cheese was on my wife's mind and quite possibly it was on young Cleo's too based on her hand gestures (I can tell you know...)Basically it's a deli out front with a great selection of meats, cheeses and fresh bread to take away, but in the back there's a lovely couple of rooms which are nicely spaced out with table service and a basic but exciting menu. We went for the meat and cheese platter (£15) for 2 which had around 4 cheeses, a few meats, olives, salad and a giant basket of bread. I don't mind admitting that I actually asked for another basket of bread, fully expecting to pay again for more bread. The nice treat when I got the bill was that they don't charge for extra bread - amazing! We had tea, water and a fentimans lemonade - not bad for around £20 and it definitely hit the spot and sorted out our cheese cravings. Can't wait to go back :-) More...
Love Cheese is a fantastic, independent, cheese shop, tucked away on Gillygate, backing onto the city walls, with views of York Minster. It has a great selection of hard to find and delicious cheeses and chutneys. We went there and had a cheese platter, and a traditional ploughmans in the little cafe at the rear of the shop. Can highly recommend blackstick blue and the Morbier cheeses. Also had a glass of wine and a nice cup of tea. Prices are really reasonable, given the quality of the produce that they sell. Super friendly staff, and a laid back atmosphere make this place a great hang out. Definitely hit this place if you're a cheese fan, or even if you just fancy a cup of tea and a tea cake (with a side of wensleydale!).Highly recommended More...
