The carnitas are the best I have had. The portions are huge and the cozy atmosphere makes for a neat experience. Two things that avoid a 5. ..I wished I could make a reservation (but it turned out ok) and the tight space that makes it cozy ensures you are being whisked past constantly if you are near the bar. As someone who travels fairly frequently within the US, the fact that this is the best Mexican restaurant I've been to in the States is high praise, indeed! Quite honestly, I rank it up there with the ones I've been to in Mexico. My camarones al mojo de ajo was spectacular, and my husband loved his fish tacos as well. I've never seen my entrée with mushrooms and onions, but they complemented the dish well, and they were delicious, especially dipped in my husbands tomatillo sauce:) The refried beans and rice were stupendous, also! Stopped for lunch on Sunday. Tortilla soup was delicious, guac was decent, and queso was good. My Chili Colorado burrito was very good and had a surprising amount of spice.
However, the service was wretched. They are terribly slow, inattentive, and lack any interest in good service. The busser was the only polite and friendly person there. Bad service like this is a direct result of poor management and an absent management. Too bad, since the food was good.
