Great staff who were patient with some unreasonable customers nearby, our service was impeccable, super afternoon tea with exquisite sarnies and patisseries. Great venue with lots of atmosphere and eccentric and eclectic people to watch! More...

Very atmospheric fires burning cosy. Staff all friendly & food was delicious. Toilets were lovely and clean which is a plus for me. It gives a good guide how well it is run as it was very busy and I think the toilets are the first place you notice if not kept on top of. We have also stayed overnight before and loved it. If you are looking to do some walking or just want some great food and cosy pud/restaurant it’s ideal spot. More...

Incredible Sunday dinner. Well worth the drive up. It's a sharing platter, with 3 meats, tetties, Yorkshire puds and plenty of veg. More than enough food per person, and you can do 2 or 3 courses. One of the best Sunday roasts I've ever had. More...

Elegant hotel with 4 good sized rooms in main building and 17 (?) others dotted around including some over road. We were in main building overlooking garden and it was cosy and comfy on a cold wet November night. Fudge and biccies in room and offered fresh milk on arrival. Nice toiletries too. A hunting party from down South was in when we were there so less said about that the better - glad they didn't eat with the rest of us in restaurant. Meal was good as was service if a little slow. My savoury custard tart gorgeous and then a tasty halibut with samphire and mussels ( I got the last one and didn't feel guilty at all! ) Daz had grilled artichoke then the venison which melted in mouth. Shared panacotta had a good wobble and wine reasonably priced with good choice. Lovely and quiet after 11pm. Breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for me and of course full English for him with toast, fruit and juices set us up for the day. More...

Sadly, we were only able to stay at this hotel for one night we we loved every minute. The accommodation is spread around various properties in the town square. Some are within the main building and our room happened to be in a cottage across the square. It felt like stepping back into yesteryear but the accommodation was fabulous, with a large room, huge bed and lovely ensuite bathroom.||For our evening meal and breakfast, we walked across the square to the main building which oozed medieval charm and character. The restaurant is located upstairs in a large room complete with mounted deer horns on the walls.||Our only disappointment was with the food. Whilst the menu looks impressive, we felt the standard of cooking was not really up to scratch.||Plenty of parking is available at street level close to the hotel, although suitcases do have to be dragged through gravel if you happen to be given a room in one of the out-buildings. Stopped here for an overnighter on the "Canny Deal" for a belated birthday. The room was lovely and spacious with a telescope to look over the fells. ||The Crypt Bar is atmospheric with the arched ceilings and the dining room is nice and roomy so you don't feel as if yiu are on top of others. The meal itself was very nice, I'd class it as posh gastro pub level and brekkie the next morning in the same room was excellent. My wife's smoked salmon was devine apparently.||The building itself is Magna Carta ancient, so there are los of different staurs and steps, so if you have mobility issues this could be a problem.| More...

Popped in for a spot of lunch with the family. Drinks were good, food lovely but what impressed me the most was the service. Polite, attentive and natural. I was most impressed by the way our curious 4 year old was recruited and allowed to help set and clear the tables by the waitress. It kept him busy and made for a relaxed lunch. Cheers guys, above and beyond our expectations. More...

We booked this hotel for one night simply because it was a convenient place to stop over on our trip. But I wish we had stayed longer. Blanchland is a very pretty village set in a stunning location and the hotel is just perfect. Our room was in a little adjacent cottage equipped with everything we could possibly need - even a kit and map for a local walk. The meals were delicious (thanks to Lewis for looking after us so well) and all the staff were really friendly. They even took the trouble to post on our phone charger we left in the room. All in all a great place to stay. More...

If you are looking for a country hotel with excellent food and accommodation which exudes a certain image of Old England then this is on the money. The ancient priory has been re-modelled into a really comfortable hotel with an atmospheric bar in the depths of the main building and a very grand dining room on the first floor. The restaurant is really good and we dined on both evenings we stayed there. There are also hearty breakfasts to be had. More...

I am always delighted when I know I am staying here - although the rooms will not suit everyone they are simple, comfortable, clean, with attention paid to the little details. Delicious biscuits, coffee, tea, up to date magazines, books, soaps all ready to enhance your stay. Nothing is a problem however busy the staff are.||My dinner on Sunday night wasn't up to normal scratch, my butternut soup just didn't taste right and my turbot was overpowered with lemon and capers but so what the service, friendly, welcoming staff, venue and general atmosphere makes this a must for me. We were on a road trip across northern England and stayed one night here. Our room was in the Angel, an old pub across the square from the main hotel. It was on the top floor, perhaps on the small side, and had a rather dull view of the roof, but in other respects could mot be faulted. Stylish, thoughtfully laid out, and very comfortable. It was quiet, except for the distant calling of not one but three owls in the woods beyond the village. The hotel restaurant was excellent - the nicest seabass I have in ages - fresh. and perfectly cooked. Altogether a wonderful stay in a beautiful old hotel. More...
