Jean-Michel worked with us on two major refurbishment projects, a two-bed Victorian terrace in Ealing in 2012 and a two-bed Edwardian flat in West Hampstead in 2016 where we now live.
He provided a reassuring and enjoyable end-to-end service for both projects, working in a collaborative way from the planning stage, suggesting a range of options and prices and new ideas on both structural and decorative aspects, from floor tiles to door hooks.
The Ealing house needed to be fully gutted and he cleared a lot of junk, then started with a blank slate, adapting where he could given we didn’t have the budget to move a downstairs bathroom upstairs (this was also re-roofed). New bathroom interior, new plumbing, relocated boiler and new kitchen. Re-plastering a very long lower lounge-diner and smoothing over a textured Artex ceiling especially impressive.
Jean-Michel also suggests improvements which can be done while an existing job takes place, saving later disruption. For example, we’d never have thought of a channel in the wall to hide cables for a wall-mounted TV but had them in both properties.
He’ll provide all the plug sockets you’ll need for the future too. He thinks of small details like hidden bath panels you can remove should there be a leak, individual stop valves and clearly labelled electrical switches for things like vent fans, kitchen electrics and washing machines.
The 2016 Edwardian flat refurb brought new aspects such as creating a shower room out of a apace which contained a toilet snd a stretch of corridor which served no purpose by adding a new non-supporting wall and doorway. We now have two great bathrooms.
A new hall cupboard door was matched to the other period doors by adapting one from a salvage yard.
An ugly beam in the hallway was removed by re-locating the fuse box - replaced with high quality new contact breakers.
There was a new kitchen, maximising use of space and adapted so our existing fridge slotted right in.
There was new handsome and cost-effective laminate flooring with the supprting floorboards repaired and re-nailed then sound-proofed.
The period features of the flat were preserved and enhanced. Jean-Michel re-instated a ceiling rose and made sure the support was there for a chandelier he later fitted when we found it.
And it’s been so reassuring that he’s always been happy to sort out any minor issues and adjustments (and they are minor). The work stands the test of time.

Our house was flooded by a burst pipe. The whole house had to be gutted. We were looking for builders to take on the job to fix all the damage that the burst pipe had caused. JM was recommended to us, he took on the job with his team. Nothing was too hard for him to do, he was always there on time and gave good advice on the best way to get things done, which was very helpful.
He fitted a new kitchen, refurbished our bathroom, replaced flooring, walls and ceilings, plaster boarded through out the house. He has done a fantastic job, and we have no complaints.
