We decided to have a little break last minute and were lucky to find that Llys Meddyg had a room available. We had been looking for a boutique hotel where we could have a relaxing stay and some quality food. When we arrived we knew this hotel was going to be good. As you walked in there was a fire going in a sitting room and it just felt homely. Our room (no.4) was very large and was finished to a high standard. We had booked in for dinner and the food was tremendous. The owners help with the running and Louise was running the restaurant and Ed was running the Cellar Bar. They both were wonderful to talk with and shared so much about the hot and the surrounding areas. They have started smoking their own salmon and it has to be tried to be believed. It’s responsibly farmed from Scotland and then Ed cold smokes it himself, which he has down to an award winning art. ||Altogether this is a family run business and it’s great for a cosy stay if you are in the area. We didn’t get the weather we wanted to explore the area, but it just means we have to come back. We took our dog "Murphy" away for a little break and it really has been a magical weekend, the staff make you feel so welcome. ......they made such a fuss over our Springer!! Nothing was too much....even when I asked if I could have cheese with every course! I'm a massive cheese lover and they didn't disappoint bless them. ||The food was beautiful, lovely combinations and plenty of it. If I had stayed there any longer I would probably have to change my wardrobe size! The restaurant area was so pretty with candles and low lighting which made it relaxing...we lost track of time very easily.||Our room was perfect (room 8) for the dog, ground floor with our own private door. It was warm and cwtchy with some homemade biscuits on arrival. ||Great walks around for the dog, the beach is about 5mins walk away, with lots of birds to watch on the estuary.||The staff were helpful on giving us direction on the surrounding area and we did manage to find a seal pup!!! ||Thank you Eddy and Louise (the owners) for a magical weekend.........we will be back!! As we had our four legged friend with us, we were situated in the cottage right next to the main building, we were next door to the kitchen where the evening meals were served and also breakfast. The room was quite large, basic but with a massive bed, it was very clean and had a very small garden with a gate where we could let the boy out for a pee. As stated the kitchen was based next door, we ate there three times for breakfast, the staff were very friendly and you could grab food from the small buffet and order a hot meal from the staff, we had cooked breakfasts, also my wife went for pancakes and I went for the smoked haddock with a poached egg, each morning the chef did a sausage for our boy with four legs, a very nice touch.||Only gripe was that we could not get the internet in our room, having said that, as a society we live on the internet so it was nice to get away from it, also there is a car park next door to the hotel, a 30 second walk. We stayed for a couple of days with our 2 dogs. Very nice room, well equipped and comfortable and the complimentary drinks tray had a really nice selection of teas and coffee. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've had in a hotel which was great as I suffer from a bad back. Bed linen was really nice quality and there was an excellent shower with really good quality soaps and shampoo. The room was a very good size, with a corner settee and cushions covered in welsh wool which was a nice touch, and had a good quality TV. There were a few noises from the kitchen as we had been warned (this was room 6) but not bad or too late, though the extractor fan was left on on our last night which did disturb my wife a bit. Food was very good and the breakfast was excellent with really good quality sausages and bacon. Truly magical. We came back with friends a year and a half after our first visit (we don’t exactly live in the area) with strong memories of beautiful scenery, friendly service and outstanding food at this family run boutique hotel - wow were we not disappointed! ! The staff were all patient and accommodating with our little one, helping us with highchairs and whatever we needed. A visit to their restaurant is a must - the magical setting catches you by surprise and kicks off a truly beautiful experience. With options for all dietary requirements, the meat fish or vegan dishes all carry their weight and have you begging for recipes. My breakfast the following morning was no exaggeration ones of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to go back!! More...

We spent 5 nights at Llys Meddyg and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was a proper mini holiday for us with our much loved cockerpoo and we all felt immediately at home. Staff were lovely, rooms and beds comfortable, fresh milk for our tea, good breakfasts and delicious evening restaurant menu. Newport is a great location for exploring the area. Newport Sands is a fantastic beach and nearby Parrog harbour is a pleasant stroll away. Lovely shops, cafes and pubs so lots of choice for good food. That said service tonight was a little erratic, felt rushed at times and felt sorry for the lady opposite who had just finished her main course when table was cleared. Newport Village, not to be confused with Newport near Cardiff, is really nice ... and there is a pretty coastal walk. One of the things I really appreciated was that they offer Starters, Little Plates & Large Plates, and Main Course. So if you are not a big eater then a Small is perfect ..... and if you are, then have the Large or a Main, not many places offer that. They also have the Cellar Bar, where you can eat as well.
