Clients retain me because they want something to happen. They are blocked or stuck in some way or wanting accountability to achieve specific goals. My job is to find out what clients want to achieve and what that will give them – why it is important to them.
Through deep listening and powerful questions, the coach sparks greater awareness and clarity (clarity = power) which fuels the desired movement. New awareness and clarity create new action!
When does one choose coaching over therapy? Generally, therapy asks the question, “What doesn’t work and why?” Often the therapist and client focus on past experiences that are carrying forward negative emotions. Conversely, coaching generally asks the question, “What does work and how can we make it better?” Most often the coach and client focus on the here and now and whatever may be blocking or limiting the client’s ability to move toward a goal or desired change.
