Liverpool Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Q&A

Company Q&A

What do you love most about your job?

We very much enjoy talking with and helping our clients, while the work we do can sometimes be challenging, everyone here has been chosen because Counselling and Psychotherapy is their vocation, so it is also immensely rewarding. It also helps a lot that and we have a good friendly team here, so instead of a bland corporate feel there is a friendly, supportive and warm atmosphere here at 55 Rodney Street.

What inspired you to start your own business?

In 1997 while completing one stage of my therapy training, I saw that there a lot of counselling available in Liverpool and Wirral was offered from peoples homes, with counsellors often working part time. I decided to set up in Rodney Street because of its reputation for medical expertise and set about building a professional organisation where clients could be sure of seeing someone who works full time, is well trained, well supervised and just as importantly understands people. While some of our clients will seek help for major emotional or psychological challenges, we understand that even minor repeating habits or relational difficulties can affect a persons quality of life. An additional factor was the 'Therapeutic Hour' which is usually only 50 minutes, I did not see why clients should pay for an hour and only get 45 minutes treatment (plus time taken to book next session etc.) when they quite rightly expect an hour, so all are hours are 60 minutes long!

Why should our clients choose you?

It can be difficult to know who may be best to help you with your needs and we appreciate this, so at the Liverpool Centre we are always happy to answer any questions you have and NEVER put any pressure on anyone to use our services. We are not a 'one size fits all' organisation, if our areas of experience do not fit the help you are seeking, then we're happy to recommend someone we trust outside of the Centre. To develop our services and provide a safe practice, our Counsellors and Psychotherapists are all supervised in house by an experienced and accredited supervisor; Psychologist Dr Ailis F Murphy CPsychol also oversees our client work. In regards to training and experience, we also appreciate it can be confusing to tell the difference between a 'qualification' that takes 6 months part time to achieve, and one that takes 4 or 5 years including an additional requirement for extensive personal development, if you are unsure then please ask!
