We recently re-branded and needed a new website that would highlight our new image and also be clean and simple to use. Mark's understanding of our brand identity was spot on and he created a website which reflects this perfectly. He was very professional and good at chasing us for answers/content when day-to-day work got us distracted, so that he could create our ideal website. We love the final result and have had so many compliments on it from clients to other industry professionals. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. More...

Q&As

A great website is one that ultimately communicates the vision, ethos and messaging of your brand. It is a 'shop window' where all of you products and services are displayed. You only get one change to make a first impression, so design and functionality are the top priorities of any website - it needs to do the selling on your behalf.

What kind of visitors are you expecting on your website and what will they be expecting to see?

What actions do you want visitors to take on the site?

What special features should be present on your website?

Please tell me the names of three sites that you like and what do you like about them?

Do you have any colour preferences or a particular look and feel for the website?

What do you NOT want to see on your new website?

I work with a variety of clients and the creative process is dependant on their requirements, knowledge level and overall character. I am a flexible individual and can communicate my ideas to a variety of audiences with ease.

A typical project will involve an initial consultation via phone, email or in person to gather an understanding of the needs of my client and the overall aim of their new website - or highlight the problems with the existing website should it be a redesign. From here, together, we will build a full brief of requirements for the project and agree a cost to cover all of these elements - at this point I also put together an agreement of deliverables so that my clients are sure exactly what they will be getting.

Once I have been authorised to start work I research competitor websites and other websites from the client's industry (on occasion these websites are simply not up to scratch for my client's needs and I ensure their website is superior to all others within their industry), I get inspiration and creative influence from design websites, aggregators of the "best of the web", check websites that I have bookmarked along the way that I know have great ideas or great designs. I often pick and choose the best elements of other websites and bring these together into a hybrid website to suit my client's needs

Once i have my inspiration, I put together branding documents to match my client's vision for the site; these usually consists of a colour palette of up to 5 colours as well as wireframe models of the most important pages of the website to ensure the client is happy with the overall layout and ideas that I have come up with.

Once I have approval on these initial designs and ideas (after amending them from any feedback), the first build begins. I will craft the website with dummy content and placeholder text for the first phase, to give the client an understanding of what the final result will look like. Once this is submitted I ask for feedback on this initial build and make changes to match my client's needs.

Once we have perfected the homepage of the site the process begins again for each content page of the website until my client is happy with their design. During this time I will ask the client to produce content (copy and photography) for their website so that I can begin populating their new website. We continue with this work until the website is functioning and completed to my client's satisfaction.

After any final tweaks, I test the website across mobile platforms and ensure all features are working correctly. Then, we launch!
