A kind of shabby building (but don't let that put you off), run by the Conway Hall Ethical Society, and providing facilities for a variety of different groups. As I understand it, the place was originally set up as somewhere for free spirits and radical thinkers to express their opinions.I've been to a few of their events, which sounded interesting, and always delivered what they promised. However, the ticket prices for a talk seem a little bit expensive to me.There is also a large hall, which holds regular recitals and musical activities, along with singing activities not based around a religious theme. I'm starting right at the beginning with Italian. Our class has 6 people in it and our teacher is WONDERFUL. She is patient, really explains points well and helps so much with pronounciation. In class we work on our own, in a group and in pairs so lessons are varied and interesting. We practice speaking, writing and listening in every lesson and the teacher prints off all materials we need for each class - so there's no need for a textbook at the beginner stage. I have already signed up to the second beginner class (every Wed) and can't wait to progress through the complete course. This is WELL worth the money - really good investment and a great stress free learning enviornment. Also, the location is 2 mins walk away from Holborn tube station. Perfect! More...

A long-established ethical organisation headquartered in this 1920's Art-Deco-ish building promoting and hosting lectures, talks, exhibitions, workshops, live music and a library. The renowned 'Sunday Concert' music recitals are varied, unfussy and set in a hall with surprisingly excellent acoustics. An exemplar - here there's much to admire and absorb. More...

A little tatty and old fashioned but thank goodness places like this still exist to serve the community and offer a good value place to host events.

I have recommended Lingua Diversa to friends as their classes are simply the best language tuition I have received so far, and I have done lots of language classes in my life. The native Spanish teachers bring so much cultural insight and enthusiasm to the lessons, which are all meticulously prepared with interesting materials like video clips, news articles, songs, grammar and vocabulary exercises to stimulate, challenge and advance. As the classes are small, typically 4 - 6, you get a lot of individual attention and lots of opportunity to speak the language and become more confident. Our teachers are very patient, encouraging and fun, and I always look forward to my next lesson. More...
