I am ashamed that I've never been to Linda's. My sister and BIL came into town and wanted somewhere with food and cold beer. Seeing that it was fall break, we took the opportunity to head to Franklin Street. My friend described Linda's perfectly: It's bar food, but quality bar food. It has 100% Health Score rating which is very rare! Especially at a place that's been around for decades! They purchase from Cliff's Meat Market so you know you're getting high quality meat! The hamburger was delicious! It was flavorful and salty (but not too salty - at least not for me). The Cuban sliders were a fun twist on a good sandwich. The wings were also good (although the salt and pepper ones that my daughter ordered were just okay, but that's not their fault!).If you don't drink beer, don't waste your money on the wine because it's pretty bad. They do have GF beer though! The service was wonderful! Everyone who was working were super nice! More...

If you want the best burger in Chapel Hill, skip Big Al's and head to Linda's. Plus, you get to eat inside! You can choose avocado, pimento cheese, bacon, and lots of other options. The tots at Linda's are also incredibly crunchy and better than any tots you've had. Not in the mood for a burger? The Jerk cheesesteak is killer, too! A bunch of beers to choose, and house cocktails that won't break your wallet. More...

My favorite burger & Paloma spot! Great staff provides friendly service. Linda's is not a run of the mill bar with food as an afterthought. Chris has done a terrific job of taking the food upscale with 5 star chef touches. More...

You should only go here if you want an amazing experience in a wonderful bar/restaurant. We had the loaded tater tots which were smothered 'n covered. The pot roast was so beautifully tender and paired with garlic mashed potatoes. I was not a fan of the coleslaw so I would order a different side next time. Chris, the owner was super friendly (as was the rest of the staff) and checked in on us to make sure we were having a great experience. He really takes pride in his place and it shows. I would go back here every time I visit Chapel Hill. More...

Ate lunch there for the first time yesterday and the pot roast special was one of the best meals I've ever had.  Incredibly juicy and very flavorful without an ounce of fat.  The garlic mashed potatoes were awesome as well as the seasonal peaches I picked for my second side.  I'm told the place has changed hands a few times but I met the owner/chef when he came by our table and he's really got it going on.  Cannot give this place a higher recommendation. My best friend and I arrived a little after the full menu was available, so for after-hours we could only order from the appetizer section on the menu. I wasn't too happy at first, but between my friend and I we ordered Thai chili wings, their fried brussel sprouts, and mac and cheese. I wasn't too impressed with the mac and cheese, but that's okay. Overall, The food I must say was actually really good. Great bar food! The bar was pretty chill, and it had a relaxed ambience. Next time I go back I'll bring some friends. More...

Linda's is an icon in Chapel Hill. Their cheese fries are a must! This is a great local spot for a casual drink or "drunchies" at the end of the night as they are open til 3am. My favorite part is their "downbar" downstairs! It feels like MacLaren's pub from How I Met Your Mother. More...

Linda's was hands down my favorite bar when a student at Carolina in the late 90s. We loved the cheese fries, cheap pitchers, and playing card games at the big tables. I brought my kids (ages 11 and 14) and mom here the other day when visiting town. Food was great, summer cocktails were delicious, service was attentive and friendly, and most importantly, the cheese fries were just as I remembered. More...

Went here for lunch the other day and was happy to find out my first time trying Linda's was on their famous pot roast special day. The waiter, who was incredibly friendly and welcoming didn't have to do much convincing for me to order the special. He promised if I tried it, I'd be back every week and he wasn't wrong. The beef was very tender, falling apart in a flavorful stew. I'm not familiar with pot roast, and I don't know if vegetables are customary in one but I would have loved to have had some kind of potatoes or carrots with it. It was still delicious though. I got it with a side of hushpuppies which were served with dipping butter. Garlic mashed potatoes and cornbread also come with the special. They were both pretty great, but not spectacular. I found the cornbread to be just a little under-seasoned and dry. The service was really quick and the server was great so I'll definitely be back in the future to try more things from their menu. I’d say I’m low key obsessed with this place but honestly I’m majorly obsessed now. I just discovered this place last week and I’m sad I didn’t sooner. My son is at UNC since December and I’ve already decided every follow up appointment we are coming here. I can’t say enough good things about this place. Their service is impeccable for the crowd. Their drinks are fairly priced and well made, their beer selection is great, try the sour monkey! But the star is totally their food! The portions for the prices are awesome but the quality is superb. Granted this is a bar... it’s not the ritz. But it’s the best bar food I’ve had ever. It’s southern home cooking meets drunk grub. Try the fried sprouts with sriracha aioli, it’s a must. Also their “Murph” sandwich is to die for... pot roast with horseradish cream sauce. Anyways, it’s definitely my favorite place on franklin! Great food and great people! More...

So my family comes to Chapel Hill every 6 months for my daughters follow up at UNC. We found Linda's by accident one trip and yum! Gabby just loves their fries and I'm a big fan of their hot dogs! We came up this Tuesday and I told one of the guys that took my order how much she looks forward to coming for her fries. Well he wrote a sweet and encouraging note on her fry box. On Wednesday we went back and told the next guy how much it meant to her and how it made her smile. He then turns around and writes another note for her on her fry bag and a note to the family on my hot dog box. So not only is Linda's food great but the staff is amazing!!! Thank you guys for giving a stressful time some positivity! More...

We were in town visiting family and they brought us to their go-to spot: Linda's for the Carolina game on Saturday. We went to the Downstairs bar and we had an awesome time! Justin was our bartender and he was super friendly and knowledgeable about both the drink and food menu. I tried the potato cake, a special for only $2! It was essentially mashed potatoes fried up on a skillet served with scallions and sour cream- a great starter. My fiancée and I also tried the wings and the Mac-n-cheese. The wings were solid and the Mac was some of the best I've ever had. It was cheesy, zesty, and full of flavor. And it comes with a surprise on top- fried up corn flakes that provide a tad of sweetness and crunch. Bomb. Sooo good. Everyone was so friendly and even though the bar was super packed for the game, the service was quick. Hope we get to come back! More...

All of the food I've had here has been good and it's been consistent in flavor and quality every time I've gone. They play the best music of any restaurant or bar in the Triangle. Staff has always been nice, laid back, attentive and unpretentious. It's our go-to spot in Chapel Hill. I just wish they were open for lunch on Sundays. More...

This bar is nice because it caters more to grad students. They usually have decent drink specials each day. They have a full bar and a good selection of both craft and domestic beers. The food is mostly standard pub fare, but is definitely better quality than a chain restaurant/bar. Try the wings. More...

Of all the places I'm going to miss when leaving Chapel Hill, Linda's might just hurt the most. My friend Zach sold me on coming here for a combo basket and mac & cheese my sophomore year and I've been coming back regularly since. I was here on my 21st birthday, I was here often junior and senior year, and here I am four years later having the mac & cheese knowing full well I may not be able to come back for a while. I highly recommend any of the Drunchies and Sandwiches. I'm sure everything else is great but I never really strayed from that part of the menu. Their local (NC) beer selection is also great. Staff's always been super nice. I'm really going to miss the atmosphere here. Thanks for the memories. I'll have to find time to come back. More...

Pretty cute, cheeky bar + grill in Chapel Hill. It's a good dive spot if you want to get the whole college student experience. It's kind of grimey but in a fun way (ie, initials carved into the tables, cheap drink + wing specials, college decor everywhere). And if you're looking for late night bar snacks - this place is a definite must. We ordered what I call a "wall of beige", which means loaded fries, spinach dip, chicken tenders, and wings. Only the healthiest of foods ;) Fair warning, you can only order so many drinks at one time (one per person I believe). So if you want to get shwasty, maybe put a double shot in your liquid marijuana (and yes, that is a drink sold here). All in all, a great representation of cheap college food and Tarheel pride! A Chapel Hill staple. Linda's is one of the most popular bars on Franklin Street/in Chapel Hill. They are most famous for their loaded tots and loaded fries (melted cheese, bacon, chives, etc). Perfect for an evening snack or 2am drunchies and great to split with a group. Linda's also has plenty of other great food items to choose from. I also love their chicken tenders and the TABLE sandwich (tomato, avocado, bacon, lettuce, egg). And of course, the drinks (because let's be real, that's the main reason to come here). There's a wonderful selection of drinks at a reasonable price. Often, there are great drink specials too (for example, $4 fireball shots).Linda's is a great place to hang out or play trivia. They host trivia downstairs (and the question are hard in my opinion), so it's a great place for groups to gather. The downside is that Linda's is often packed, so finding a seat can be tough. Their loaded cheese fries and the loaded sweet potato tots are hands down THE BEST! Their sweet thai chili wings are also incredibly tasty. They have pretty good drinks that aren't expensive. I like to get the strongbow cider. Yesterday, a friend introduced me to the strongbowsa (sp?) which is a combination of strongbow cider and orange juice, kind of like a mimosa. Delish! I have no complaints about this place. The interior is cozy and just perfect for a round of drinks with close friends. Linda's is your typical college bar, but with the added bonus of the most amazing loaded sweet potato tots. We ventured to Linda's to watch the basketball game Saturday night and had a great time cheering UNC on with our fellow Tar Heels. We arrived about 30 minutes before tip-off and the place was already super busy. We were lucky enough to score a couple of couches downstairs, in front of the big screen.  So not only did we score one of the spots with the best view, but also one of the comfiest spots. One thing I really love about Linda's is the reasonable drink and food prices. A majority of the items on the menu are under $10, which is perfect for a college student's budget. You also don't have to worry about pressure from servers to order more food or drinks all the time since you can go up to the bar and order whatever you want at your own leisure. We ordered a couple of beers and the loaded sweet potato tots before the game started. And these sweet potato tots are AMAZING! We got the full size order to share, but learned that the trick is to actually order a half order of the tots and a half order of the fries. One of my friends did this and she got what looked like SO much more food! Later on we ordered the mac and cheese appetizer, which was only $5 and was a pretty big portion. I loved the crunchy corn flakes on top. And the mac and cheese had a slight kick to it, which I really enjoyed. Our food came out quickly both times, even though they were really busy. We'll definitely be back to watch more games and probably to get a late night snack after hitting up the other bars on Franklin St. More...

Great beers on draft, creative beer cocktails and regular cocktails (have both a regular and a seasonal list). Food is great. Loved everything we've had here - especially the jerk chicken, sweet potato tots, burgers are solid. Bartenders are friendly, run a bit on the libertarian side, if you're into that. It's fun to sit at the bar, the bartenders are pretty knowledgeable and are happy to let you taste a draft beer before getting a full pour. More...

Been 2 decades since i was in a college bar....this one was way better than most from my day!  Good selection of crafts, liquor and some gastro pub style eats.  If i lived in Chapel Hill i would be a regular here!Jalapeño pimento cheese dip was perfect in a suitably dark and divey atmosphere.  Obviously the kids working there actually cared (wow) and the place was clean and there was attention to detail from the food to the physical. Best place to wind down with good food and beer after a long day/week of classes. Also best place to get food if you're still out and hungry after 2am... they're open until 3AM... get their drunchies. My personal favorite: combo basket (regular fries, sweet potato fries, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks) or hot dogs... they're good. If it's too loud on the main floor, go downstairs. It'll probably still be loud but it's more relaxing! More...

When people ask me about my favorite food, I tell them it's Linda's cheese fries. The best place for "drunchies" as they call them, and they have a huge selection of NC beers on tap as well. Easily my favorite bar on Franklin Street More...

When you go to Chapel Hill and drink, Linda's is a must for the Loaded Sweet Potato Tots! They also have pretty good beers and sometimes discounts on their beers/liquor which can be seen on the chalkboard behind the bar.The loaded sweet potato tots are like heaven in your mouth. The perfect sweet potato filling with the slightly crisp outside and freshly made, so be careful of it coming out hot. I'm always so impatient so I end up burning my tongue, but it's literally so good. My heart is so happy, it makes me reminisce of college days. The part that makes it loaded is the cheese, scallions, and bacon bits on top but what makes it perfect is the jalapeño ranch dressing. It has a nice little kick but matches well with the sweet tater tots. The one downside is that sometimes if it is home coming weekend or graduation or big events like that you get to the bar and they have run out of sweet potato tots, so instead you can settle for the loaded fries. It's a great place and one of my favorite to hang out and grab a beer with friends. Good food at a very reasonable price. I went here to watch some college football on a Saturday night with my wife and son. We sat at the bar and had very good service on drinks and beer. The BLT with avocado was really good. I will definitely come here again. More...

So glad I listened to Yelp and stopped in for dinner. The staff were fun, the menu inventive, and the drinks flowing. Two special shout outs to the Cuban sliders and the sweet potato tots that actually retained their delicious flavor from the tot form. We only had one night in Chapel Hill but I'm happy we spent it here. More...

The Cuban sliders were so flavorful and the loaded sweet potato tots were awesome!!!The service was great; I sat at the bar. Otherwise, I believe that you have to order from the bar anyway, no table service. There was to be trivia downstairs later that evening. I ordered the spicy margarita. It was spicy indeed. Almost a little too. It was good though!I also ordered their bread pudding. It was dry, covered with whipped cream (to disguise the dryness?) and drizzled with nutella- which was the best part. This dessert was just ok. I wouldn't order it again. More...

We went on a Saturday night. It is bar service but the bar staff was attentive, helpful and fun. The jalapeño pimiento cheese was delicious and the chicken strips with honey mustard were the best we have ever had.

Go here for the nightlife. This is one of the most underrated bars. Downstairs can be a bit noisier, but upstairs is perfect. It's incredible relaxing and a great time to talk with your friends over a drink. The sides work but really, all you need is a drink for this one. Great for a meet-up or a date so you can actually hear your friends/date talk. Service is awesome.Parking... lots and side streets. Good luck. Get here early enough and you'll be fine. More...

Updated for fantastic Trivia Tuesdays.  The questions are tough and the emcee is a little wacky, but it makes for a fun, chill time with friends.  Still gotta get that full order of Loaded Cheese Fries, though.  They also have trivia on Wednesdays, but that doesn't roll off the tongue quite as well. First time here and we really liked it.  We were told to sit where we wanted and were brought menus, and told to order at the bar.  I had a Chardonnay while Husband had a super yummy Raleigh Brewing Hidden Pipe Coffee Porter. We shared the Cuban Sliders with Loaded Sweet Potato Tots.  YUM!   Super tasty and very rich.  Glad we shared it.  Super casual, laid-back place that's very inexpensive. A favorite bar in Chapel Hill. I have been a regular at Wednesday night trivia in Linda's Downbar for two years and have always enjoyed the atmosphere. Also a fun place to be for Chapel Hill events like March Madness or Halloween. THe food can be a little greasy but is pretty standard for bar fare. Has a good tap beer selection that changes fairly regularly and features some great local breweries. More...
