Stave House is a unique learning method for music notation that is imaginative and fun and captures the attention of young musicians like no other. It is a method 30 years in the making that has been used in nurseries (kindergartens) and primary schools with great success. The children love it, and teachers and parents are amazed at what their young students are able to grasp using this method. As a Stave House teacher I am extremely proud to be using Stave House with all of my young pupils. I have seen children progress rapidly using Stave House, without using short-cuts that later hinder their development such as reading finger numbers. The idea that young children can learn and progress with notation reading and music theory in a way that is enjoyable, creative and appropriate for their age is central to the Stave House approach. As a result of using this method I have children for example learning to play the guitar in year two (age 7) who are capable of sight reading and playing music fluently at initial stage level – this includes playing Gmajor and Cmajor scales and melodies such as Kumbaya, Michael Row The Boat Ashore and Oh When The Saints. This wouldn't have been possible without Stave House. The children are reading real notation with ease, no tablature, no notes written on the music, no finger numbers. They are confident with their rhythms, including semibreves, minims, crotchets, quavers, dotted minims and dotted crotchet – quaver rhythms, and have no trouble clapping the rhythm of a piece of music that they have never seen before. The children are also able to write their own compositions, using time signatures, key signatures, and a variety of notes and rhythms. And what's more, they love doing it.As a self-employed teacher I use Stave House not only in the lessons that I teach through the Stave House Academy but also in my private lessons, because it is the most effective notation learning tool available. The stories, songs and games are a joy to teach and my students get the most out of their lessons when we use Stave House.Through the Stave House Academy I am currently teaching in 5 different schools in the Chelmsford area. I am well paid – especially in comparison to other music services that hire self-employed teachers – and the work is reliable and varied. I have never had to wait for my invoices to be paid and Stave House takes care of enrolling the students and makes sure that all student invoices are paid in advance of the term so that we can have a reliable list of students to make our timetables from. Stave House cares deeply about the continued professional development of their teachers and the quality of teaching is reflected in student exam results and termly concert assemblies. Through Stave House I have taken a Diploma in Early Years Music Education, accredited by the London College of Music, I have become an assessor for LCM's Stave House Awards, I am in the process of writing music books featuring the Stave House method and I will soon be flying to Malaysia to deliver a teacher training course in the Stave House method. I have worked for Stave House for the past 5 years, teaching individual and group music lessons as well as classroom music lessons with Foundation Stage – Year 4. I would never have had these opportunities without the continued encouragement and support of the Stave House family. I feel privileged and proud to be working with some incredible musicians and teachers. The creator of Stave House Dr Ruth Travers is an inspirational music educator and the work she has done for children's music education has been quite rightly acknowledged by London College of Music with an honorary fellowship. She is an absolutely lovely lady to work for and she truly values teachers who work hard, are passionate about teaching, who embrace the Stave House concept and who teach creatively and imaginatively. I look forward to working with Stave House for many years to come. More...

I have loved working with Ruth. She is an inspiring teacher of children and adults alike. I have not met many people who are as keen or dedicated to music making and the sharing of music with children. The Stave House materials are excellent and the team are always available to support the work of other music teachers. Added to that, the work that they do with refugees is Africa is outstanding. An Excellent Company! I have worked for this very professional Company for several years and all the parents and teachers of my students are amazed at how quickly these little ones pick up quite advanced musical theory and how much they love it. Before using this system I would never have considered teaching children so young. This gives them an undeniable musical advantage. Would definitely recommend as would all my students and their parents. More...

Ruth Travers has personally taught my child for six years now enabling her to read music fluently with the Stave House scheme as well as fostering in her a deeper understanding of music and what it has to offer. She is 11 now, learning two instruments and developing a musicality beyond her age without intense pressure that that may connotation because Ruth ensures it her learning journey is taken at the correct pace for her. I have provided photography services over the years for Stave House workshops and a theatre production and was impressed with Ruth's teaching methods and connection with her students. It is amazing to see such young children fully engaged and brimming with confidence. Ruth introduced my little 4 year old nephew to the violin and now at 8 years old he plays solo parts at assembly and is writing his own music! More...

My son has followed the Stave House programme since the age of 5 and has developed incredible music skills all round in terms of his playing, sight reading, theory and aural skills. All skills are worked on at a similar pace meaning one thing never holds him back from the other thus providing a really strong foundation which I hope he continues to build on as he now progresses to secondary education.
