We sat outside and it felt like we were on a tropical vacation. The food was delicious and the service was above and beyond! Great recommendations by server. I ordered the lobster ravioli ( delicious) my table had the spaghetti with meat spice, lamb and tacos... all hits but my ravioli was the tables favorite. The music is amazing and totally worth a visit. More...
Great food, recently paid this place a visit and I don't regret it at all, I had the lobster ravioli, mussels with pesto sauce and the papagayo dynamite and everything was DELICIOUS.
Our entire party enjoyed their food. Great service and fun atmosphere! Good people here.
Came up to Encinitas for the weekend and one of our friends recommended this place as we love live music. We knew there would be a wait on a Saturday night as many restaurants don't take reservations. While we were waiting we realized this restaurant DOES take reservation, which we will do next time. Props to the hostesses! I was impressed with how they handled all the "privileged" requests and demands. Many of the people interacting with these ladies were rough and plain rude, yet the young women handle themselves and filtered well. I would have lost my job in the first 15 min interacting with some of these "do you know who I am" type of people.Anyways... 30 min later we were seated in the furthest corner from the music. My bad as I should have requested the seating, but the hostesses were dealing with other requests. We sat outside under the kites and outside lighting that was well done. Great vibe outside. We started with drinks, the MaiTai, and a spicy watermelon margarita, so good! Moved on to 2 apps, mussels (original) and buffalo wings. Mussels were on point. Wings, meh. I would go with something else next time.We split dinner, chicken satay w coconut rice. YES! so good. The server was super helpful and on top of our meal and drinks & checking in with us.I wish we could have heard the music as that is why we were there, but next time I will make a reservation for closer seating. We will be back for sure! More...
Second time coming here. Super legit service and food. We had a cell phone drop between some Uber hard place between a built in seat and wall. The manager and staff rallied to help us find a way to get it back. I was impressed at the willingness to assist and how extremely polite each of them where. It was in the midst of a packed house and many moving parts. Not only do I love the prime rib but the staff is second to none. Do yourself a favor and hit this place up. You'll be stoked ! More...
Best Happy Hour in North County. Have been here twice for Happy Hour and enjoyed every bit of the ambiance and food. Did not much care for the House Chardonnay, however. Mediocre. If you have not tried Papagayo, go with no reservations about the quality of the food. You will enjoy it. More...
First time I've been here for happy hour. Loved it!!!The Maui tacos and chicken satay were very tasty and delicious. The homemade margs were also such a treat. Can't beat them for $6 and I'll definitely be back. The guitar music was the icing on top! He was great and played all my favs! Super great night!!! More...
Great restaurant with a wide and delicious seafood selection. We had everything from the paella, to lobster risotto, salmon, jumbo scallops and the sea bass. All were flavorful and spectacular in their own right! More...
This place is so cute! A little noisy but great dishes and craft cocktails! Though, prefer outdoor seating.
Our server was FANTASTIC and the food was amazing. Best bread w/ pesto dip in the whole world! Miso cod was sublime!

Wonderful evening! great food wonderful staff.
Our waiter was super friendly (I can't believe I forgot his name!) and I loved the recommendations he gave us. I ordered the chili verde benedict and it was delicious! I will definitely be back again when I'm in the area. More...
I was really craving good eggs Benedict, saw they had it on their menu so I stopped in. Super happy I did. My server was super quick to grab me coffee (pretty sure he saw in my eyes I needed it). Food came out quick and it was a super interesting take on Eggs Benedict! 100% will be back again More...
We went their for our first time Sat...our waitress recommend the lump crab cake special....it was hands down the best crab cake I have ever tasted! And I spent many summers in Maryland eating crabs! Chef Matt after hearing our praises from the waitress visited our table to introduce himself....talk about excellent service!!!! Oh and the live music was amazing too!!! More...
One of our favorite feel good, everyone’s favorite hang.. with live music every night, Happy Hours every night 4-6; music starts at 7p. Service is friendly, helpful, and attentive. Broad menu.. all good. Food at happy hour is about $2-3 less than normal. Multiple indoor and outdoor seating areas. Ask for seating in the bar area if you want to be closest to the music.. More...
My husband ordered the Sea Bass (spicy cauliflower was delicious, he wish there was more than 4 pieces). I ordered the stroganoff and oh man. I could only eat half of my plate and it was delicious (left overs were equally as yummy!) My husband licked the plate clean. Wish we would've taken photos - but we couldn't help but dive in! Can't wait to go back! More...
Stumbled upon this hidden gem. There is live music and both patio or indoor seating. We opt to sit on the patio because it was a nice warm evening. I forgot our servers name but she was really nice. Food: Flat Iron Steak with Chimichurri served mediumBangkok NoodlesThe flat iron was cooked perfectly. The chimichurri was also good. I love that they served coconut rice with it. Definitely a delicious redemption meal. The bangkok noodles was also good. It is made with zoodles with bursting flavors. Overall a great experience. I would highly recommend this restaurant. More...
Great service and we got birthday cake as well
We love this place for brunch! They have a great brunch deal with mimosas included! Even at night this place is amazing with live band super fun! We came after the kitchen was closed and the waiter was so nice and brought us chips and salsa still! More...
very good food and atmosphere, live music was good, service good. was very loud ( not the music, the actual noise level of people talking). foos a bit pricy). would return again. More...
So I have only had breakfast here twice but the shrimp and grits are out of this world!!! The avocado breakfast sandwich is perfect. The potato cakes are addicting... warning you will eat them all then eat anyone else's that were to full to finish the rest. My husbands dishes (chili verde Benedict and Huevos rancheros) where awesome even with the sopas being a little dense. My husband has also had dinner here with his friends and they said it was really good. Truly can't wait to try everything on the menu. More...
I was super reluctant to come here because of the location, but this place did not disappoint. Insanely AMAZING food, bottomless mimosas, cute atmosphere, and they had the best girl playing live music. I live an hour away, and I will come back again. More...
I like quaint fun relaxed places with cool outdoor seating. I have always loved this place. Everyone that works there is chill, nice, helpful ... so it's always a fun evening.
had the Best sea bass ever
The restaurant has amazing food which is already clear from the other reviews. The hostess Tyler (hopefully I am spelling her name correctly) was awesome because she did everything in her power to find us a table on the patio even though it was already completely booked. The paella is very good, as well as everything else we tried - we will definitely be going back when we visit again. More...
This place is SO GOOD! i stopped by on my way to an appointment. Had shrimp and calamari tacod. The shrimp may be the best shrimp i ve ever had. Tacos were juicy and fresh and flavorful. Spicy watermelon margarita is strong yet fresh. The service was very fast. And the outdoor space has plenty shade. I am definitely coming back! More...

I like the live music!!! The food was excellent and the staff were all friendly, knowledgeable and efficient!
Looked on yelp for the best chiliqueles in north county and found them here! Switched the chorizo for shrimp and had my eggs poached.
Lovely place! I had dinner there and loved their Branzino, spicy cauliflower, artichoke hearts appetizer was amazing, and Mediterranean salad.Definitely one of the better options Encinitas has to offer, will be back. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because it looks a bit better in the pictures, otherwise great. More...
food is delicious, ambiance is very nice. one of my favorite restaurants in encinitas!
Had brunch here on the weekend. To my delight, it wasn't very busy. They have indoor and patio seating, with both counter height tables and regular height tables.I had a delicious cappuccino and chilaquiles with red sauce, and it was fantastic. The sauce was spicy without being too hot. The scrambled eggs on the side were fluffy and buttery. All in all it was a fabulous breakfast. More...
Guest service was great. Cool vibe. Clean. Mussels in thai peanut sauce appetizer was great...good flavor, good amount of large mussels. Seared ahi and paella was pretty good to. chorizo and shrimps in paella were well cooked and tasted good. The cocktails were awful..either the bartender sucked or the mix for them is off...4 diffetent drinks and all crappy. better off getting beer or wine. More...
Best shrimp and grits I've ever had! Worth 5 stars just for that! Delicious! Great portion and value as well. Staff from hostesses to waiters were great too. Haven't been here in awhile and glad I came back. will return. More...
We were vacationing in Encinitas and Le Papagayo was recommended to us. We ended up going twice! This place is incredible! We had some really great meals while we were out there, but the best food came from here. Seafood was so fresh! Dishes were so tasty! We could not believe how quickly the food came out. We barely had to wait. (No idea how they do that!) Highly recommend Le Papagayo. Definitely stop by. You WILL NOT be disappointed!! More...
Seriously solid food and drink! Plus live music...what's not to like? Try to lobster bisque...it's stellar. Kids food is pretty impressive as well
Swung through on a Sunday and grabbed some lunch and drinks at the bar. The Cuban Sandwich as well as hand crafted cocktails with fresh juices were top shelf. Ducky and the Blonde Kid behind the bar took real good care of us and put on a show. Not sure outside of a casino if I've seen that many drinks move an hour. It was an enjoyable lunch ~ the drink menu and food offerings are diverse and presented with pride. More...
Amazing brunch.. I have to add 36 more characters to post
Great service, great vibe. Thank you!
We're locals who finally got around to trying Le Papagayo. Great dinner and service from start to finish. Perfectly cooked Sea Bass entree and an excellent Paella really made us happy. The Papagayo salad was fine but not an outstanding item...a bit heavy on the lettuce vs the beets, avocado and goat cheese. All in all, great food and a great place. More...
Great food and lovely ambience on the patio. The triplets (grandsons) loved the fries and we adults enjoyed all the food.
Hip, relaxed atmosphere, great drinks, live music. Food was amazing and service beyond reproach. Will be back for sure!
Great food and atmosphere! Love the outdoor seating!
Insanely delicious Pallela!
Came here for dinner and it was amazing , We started with the simple bread with house made pesto as our appetizer, yummy. I had the Chilean Sea Bass ,soo delicious and like butter, on top of crab fried rice ! Wow, so good, my hubby had the blackened shrimp with linguini with a butter, wine sauce, so good . Charming our door patio seating as well as music inside ( didn't get to stay for that , but will have to come back again ) More...

Great food, great service and great music!!! What a fun night we had celebrating a birthday!!! Great memories!!! All generations in our Family highly recommend Le Papagayo for breakfast through dinner!!! You will enjoy it!!!
They have the best mussels anywhere! He brings in special mussels with a to-die- for sauce! Gluten-free flatbread is so delicious! I love the Brie and pear. Chef Matt was so wonderful, friendly, and helpful. Our waitress, Kelly, was so nice and helpful. Great, fun experience. More...
The Chef Arthur had surely put a twist on the cuisine. The food was amazing! Great ambience and location! The live band set the tone for a memorable night!! I will return!
My family and I were in town from Texas celebrating my birthday. Thanks to our amazing friends, we were treated to this venue for my birthday dinner and it was amazing. Mr. Rainey and Chef Matt were very attentive. They made me feel very special on my special day. All of the food was very well prepared. There was no dish that warranted a complaint. We truly appreciate the extra special care and plan to visit every time we come back to California. Do yourself a favor and stop by for the live music, all night happy hour on Tuesdays, or for no reason at all. I promise you will not be disappointed. Thanks again y'all! See you next time. More...
The food was awesome as normal. The wait staff was awesome drinks were really strong had a great time saw a lot of people having a great time
We LOVED it! This is our new go-to place for Happy Hour. We keep taking more and more friends here each week. The people are friendly, sitting outside is the best, and the food is delicious!
Had a great time and good food. Customer service was great and welcoming. Awesome environment. Will be eating there again soon.
Went to Le Papagayo for our anniversary. We ate outside and literally around a palm tree! Food was excellent and plentiful. Lemonade was the best except when I make it at home. Only minor gripe was having mashed potato in the bouillabaisse. Found out afterwards that coconut rice was available as a substitute (better). Waitress was terrific. Highly recommend. More...
Inside was very noisyRecommend seating outside
I love this place but coming with my friends the other night was pretty frustrating. It was very obvious they're trying to push people out due to reservations, etc. however, felt like there were WAY more tables taken by people who had been there longer than us and they were left alone - while it felt like every ten mins our waiter wanted to take our plates while still eating, etc. It was pretty disappointing and were going to spend more on drinks but decided to leave due to constantly being bombarded with staff questions. Aloha Saturday’s. Another positive experience at Le Pap, current ownership has done a great job. Happy hour everyday!
What I finally decided on was a sure winner- The Wahine Salad. A beautiful field of greens with hearts of palm, avocado, mixed nuts, mango and other goodies. I can never stay away from this when I come here. For some extra protein, I had them throw on a Veggi Black Bean Patty, something I have never done before. It was divine! The Black Bean Burger was rich and crispy and full of flavor. It was healthy and exactly what I was craving.Hubby ordered the Macadamia Nut Crusted Calamari Sandwich. And may I just say, he won lunch. I popped that little extra piece of calamari sitting in front of his sandwich into my mouth and realized this is the best damn calamari I've ever had. This place was amazing! Awesome atmosphere as it’s right on the main drag in Encinitas and has a lot of outdoor seating. Highly recommend the location and the food as well! They even had a kids menu! More...
I feel like this place has really upped its menu game. Great drinks and food choices even for those avoiding the Glutens. We also had great service which improves any meal. We’ll be back more often.
good food, good music, unfriendly service, bare minimum
Wow. What fresh and fabulous food and friendly, efficient service in such a great chill vibe to a backdrop of a fittingly chill band. We went for dinner and loved everything about it and every dish we had. Highly recommend the Papagayo Dynamite appetizer, and if you’re a Chilean seabass fan theirs will def not disappoint. And it indeed lives up to its ‘world famous sangria’. Delish. Must visit if you’re looking for a great meal and atmosphere. The outside tables in back with loungey seating under string lights is super cool. More...
Best food, outstanding service, highly recommend
Service wasn’t great, food was good but not anything to brag about
Great people watching. Excellent service. Quality food affordable price. Try the Sangria. Great offering of Tequila Wine and IPA
Great food. Everyone in our group had something different and all were pleased.
Great food...seriously everything I've tried there has been delicious. I really like the ambience outdoors too. It's a great place for a girls night out or a date!
Great breakfast spot. Happy hour muscles are great and the live music every night keeps the vibe upbeat.
Can always depend on Le Papagayo to provide an entertaining night with great food.
GREAT service and GREAT food! Made our nice family dinner a very special one. It’s becoming one of our favorite go-to restaurants!
Excellent food, creative menu and great margaritas.
Great experience. Great food.
Food was delicious, sat at the community table which was nice because it was outside. If you don't mind it being loud and a little cramped, you'll enjoy sitting inside. Food was great, atmosphere was beautiful outside, good service More...
Ask for Lindsey! She's awesome. Great menu, great drinks, great food (though the ice cream was a little icey for me) and a great band. Super atmosphere and really no complaints. Spent an excellent night here pre Del Mar. More...
Fun place with live music on Friday nights. Friendly staff and great people watching. Indoor / outdoor seating. I enjoyed a yummy salad with an add on of Salmon. The salmon had a nice outer crust.Everyone else enjoyed their food except for the flank steak tacos with a cheese mushroom sauce. Meat was tough and sliced to thick for eating in a tortilla.Happy hour Cabernet was very smooth and flavorful. The guacamole was very generous...we added salt for more flavor. More...
Service and food were great
We ate outside so I wasn't too loud but we would not have been able to have a conversation if we sat inside when the band was playing. We moved inside after dinner to listen to the band. More...
This place is a gem! The food, the atmosphere, the people are all so amazing. You have to go! Chef Matt is the sweetest! Best menu!
Very enjoyable. Quite popular so reservations are a good idea but didn’t seem to be much of a waiting line either time we went. However, we dined a little early. We did outdoor seating both times. Because it is popular, they began (between our two recent visits, which were about a month apart) to limit seating to a two-hour time period. They mention it when they seat you. Although, we had plenty of time and it wasn’t an issue for us. I think for a group it might be. When dining with friends we like to extend our visit so not sure we’ll follow through on the idea of taking another couple. Wonderful food choices and everything we’ve had is delicious. Staff are friendly and helpful, but they are spread a little thin. Depending on where you are seated you might feel a bit close to adjacent diners. Our first visit was a little more spacious. More...
Papayayo is one of my favs. They have amazing food and a great set up on their back patio

Very good food and wine. Liked being on outside patio and could still her music and have a conversation. The restaurant is a little too pricey to go there often. Thanks for the experience!

Bought a mug! Great coffee. Will return whenever I visit San Diego.
Best happy hour around! My favs are the margarita flat bread and all of the tacos are amazing. Big portions too. It can be crowded in the summer so make sure to call ahead and make a reservation.
This is our 2nd time to visit this restaurant in a span of 1 month. Upon our arrival, the hostess greeted us warmly and was aware of our request for a certain table on our reservation. She explained that it was not quite ready (we were 5 minutes early) but suggested an area off to the side of their outdoor seating area to wait so we ordered something from the bar & enjoyed our cocktails until our table was ready. It was only a 10 minute wait - we didn't mind at all. We loved the classic Mussels the 1st time so we visited so we ordered it again on this visit. It was just as delicious. We tried the Macadamia crusted calamari - it was good but my wife said it was too sweet. We shared the Le Papagayo salad and the Braised Short Rib entree. It was enough for both of us and it was cooked perfectly. The presentation of all dishes were appealing. For dessert, the Banana Bread pudding & Salted Caramel Vanilla Icecream was tasty. Our server, Jessie, was attentive, friendly and had perfect timing in checking in with us. Overall, we enjoy dining at Le Papagayo and look forward to our next visit(s). More...
So the vibe is great, all the waiters are very nice, friendly and helpful, the food is great! Happy hour everyday (thats what im talking about), do try the lobster bisque & the mahi taco. I will go again to try the paella that looks amazing. I would have given it 5 stars but I made a reservation for 2 people at 5 pm and when i got there (4:50) they told me "my table wasn't ready" so what did I make a reservation for? More...
Poor service for a 9P reso. Booked later expecting smoother flow / faster delivery. 25 minutes for lobster bisque to arrive and no bowl for mussels. I had to stack the mussels on a plate and they were so high the fell on my girlfriend. Sad tunes by the musician i.e. When September ends by Green Day - why not more upbeat options during summer months? First and final visit. More...
Very nice food and music. Worth a visit anytime
Love this place. One of my favorite brunch places. The Chile verde benedict is top notch. I’m also a fan of the breakfast burrito and the oatmeal pancakes.
Fun atmosphere. Food delicious. They forgot one meal, so the others were almost finished by the time she received hers. No compensation for their mistake. Plus it was her birthday.
Ssssssshhhh. Don’t tellllll.
Too Busy and really seems just more like a local Hangout. And pricey for the food quality .
Amazing! We ordered the prosciutto mac n cheese, the short rib, and the filet crustini. The short rib was definitely the best, but all were delicious. The bar was very crowded inside and we enjoyed the live music. Service was not great but worth it for the food and music. More...

Love Papagayo!! Been here many times always enjoy it. First time I've done a review. Went for dinner last Saturday and as always the service was great, from the hostess at the front door to our server. From start to finish the meal was fantastic. We had a little bit of everything. You got to start with the bread with the fresh pesto sauce its amazing. We got to speak with Chef Matt and he made some great suggestions. The STRAWBERRY & GOAT CHEESE SPINACH SALAD was perfect. Also, started with the home made butternut squash raviolis which were perfect. Shared the chicken satay entree also and it was moist and flavorful. Thanks to Chef Matt and the team over there. I'ts a great way to hear some live music and experience some great food. Perfect way to spend a Saturday night! Or Sunday - Friday! More...
We had the most wonderful dinner in such a pretty atmosphere. It was our 2nd time in one week being there. The first we sat near the bar and enjoyed the live music, and the 2nd we enjoyed the outdoor heated patio. The food was outstanding on both occasions, so much that I used a spoon to drink the mussels broth. All of the seafood and beef dishes were delicious, as was the sangria. Great beer selection also. Went on a Sunday night with group of parents while in town for soccer tourney - best night of trip! Had Jimmy, an acoustic guitar player, on patio and the sing-along was a blast. Attentive service and lots of options for seating both inside and out. More...
LOVED THIS PLACE!First of all, feel of the restaurant was so calm and really gives off that beach feel.We were quickly served and everything we had today was out of this world!I have never been more satisfied with everything I've eaten at a restaurant. We got a pear and brie appetizer and tried the lobster bisque which were both refreshing on not too heavy. Then I had the surf and turf tacos which were AMAZING.The carne asada was tender and not overpowering but paired well with the shrimp ceviche they put on top which had enough acid to act like the lemon and they serve two and it is a good amount! We got the cinnamon roll pancakes as dessert and the pecans with whatever other toppers they put on was perfect.Just enough sweetness and the sides and bottom were crispy but not burnt, soooo good! Not to mention, our server was super sweet and just made dining in an even better experience for me and my family. We are definitely coming back here as a family but I'll bring my friends here when I come back too!Fantastic restaurant, definitely ranks as one of my favorites! tasty, delicious food. Great verity in meals.
Live locally and come in for breakfast twice a week on average. Love this place - my go to restaurant in Leucadia!
Fun atmosphere and great music
The patio was great. My food came about 10 minutes after the rest of our group did which was disappointing. Also getting water refilled took a really long time. Usually love this place but not the best service this time. Requested to sit outside, when I arrived the table was for inside. My group needed to wait 10-15 minutes to sit outside as we preferred. Great location by the coast. Service was just a miss. More...

Love our local music, great drinks, food and vibe!
I like the staff and the locals who come here. The music is fun too. I liked the guy playing acoustic and singing songs everyone knew. The 3 piece band that was blues oriented wasn't as good, but that's just me. The food was excellent and our waitress was the best! She remembered us from previous visits. We'll be back!! More...
Had a reservation. Asked for outside seating as part of online reservation request. Had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. That was unusual. Anyway, we were seated in a very cozy corner with huge palm tree growing out of table! Made small area even smaller, and confining. Food was good, however, as was service More...
First time here. It was a bit pricier than I had expected but it was well worth it. The bread and pesto was tasty. Too tasty as a matter of fact. I ate so much I filled up on bread and couldn't finish my main course After the bread we ordered the Papagayo dynamite to share. It was so rich and flavorful. For my main course I got the paella. It was wonderful. The saffron rice was moist and all of the different meats were tender and delicious. The only downside was my mezcal sunrise. It wasn't mixed well so all the mezcal seemed to be floating on top. It was served with a lime wedge (always disappointing as mezcal should be served with an orange) and didn't have the Tajin rim as stated on the menu. Otherwise everything else was exceptional. Highly recommend it. More...
Best best best all-around!! Went to Papagayo for Tuesday all-night Happy Hour this week. Promptly greeted by their friendly hostess, Hayley. Live music was great! Espectacular..! Definitely my favorite place in this area. Starting from the hostess, servers like Alonso made me enjoy my Food. I ordered 'Chili Verde Eggs Benedict' and this Cocktail called 'Alpastor' apparently Alonso's creation The food is super clean and Unique, they serve breakfast until 3:45!! There's an hour in between for HAPPY HOUR' and the Dinner menu starts by 4 I love it. At night they have music alive.. they also have pictures, Art all over the place I like the fact that they support local artist people selling/offering their art.! That's grate The patio outside is beautiful and very calmWhich makes me feel welcome to come back soon Prices are ok but, affordables. Thank you More...

We had a great dinner and service and the decor was very nice. The menu has a great selection of interesting dishes and we loved what we ordered. The music was good also.
Great food and atmosphere! Had the crab cakes, prime rib and some wine.
Absolutely LOVE Le Papagayo! We've been here twice in the past two weeks: the first time we sat outside on the patio; the second time we sat indoors. Both experiences were exceptional! Great ambiance; friendly, attentive service; and EXCELLENT food! Our server the first time was a bit better, but both were very friendly, the refills came readily, and while they didn't hover, we were never left waiting. The lobster bisque, lobster ravioli, butternut squash ravioli, and street tacos are all HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and the bartenders make some seriously delicious drinks! On both visits, the super-friendly manager came around, introduced herself, and checked on us. What a gem! Love her! It was all very genuine and from the heart, nothing forced or contrived.Le Papagayo has happy hour prices all evening on Tuesday (at least on their happy hour food menu; not sure about the drinks). We sat indoors this past Tuesday and had a wonderful time. The live music is a bit loud, but they guy sounded great and performed some of my favorite classic rock covers (Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Allman Brothers, Aerosmith, etc.)Outside on the patio they have fire features and white lights; charm galore! It's a bit quieter and more conducive to an intimate conversation or romantic date night. We will absolutely be back and can't wait for our next great night at Le Papagayo! More...
We invited friends to join us for dinner. They had never been before. Everything was fantastic. Everything we ordered was delicious, the live music was great and as always, awesome service.
A fully stocked bar and an excellent restaurant makes this place a must stop on your way down to San Diego.
I will make this short, try the bread with homemade pesto for $3. Yes. This alone is worth a fantastic review, as the pesto is homemade and what you always knew pesto was capable of, but never quite made it. This is it! It would be 5 stars if the bread and pesto was complimentary, especially because they don't advertise it is a purchase. It should be on the house. More...
Nice dinner with friends on a Wednesday evening - happy hour menu is great!
I recently decided to have my birthday party at Le Papagayo because my favorite band Gypsy Groove was playing and they have fabulous food and a great atmosphere.Shane the manager was incredible helping me set up the space for my guess. We had a big challenge when my party turned out to be more popular than I had guessed and I went from 20 guests reserved to 35.If you are not familiar Le Papagayo has many small rooms and no room that can accommodate a party of 35. When I figured out that I had that many guests I contacted Shane the manager. He came up with a solution to accommodate everyone by setting up a large table in an adjacent room. The food was excellent, the servers rocked it and everyone had a fabulous night! Thanks so.much for making.my birthday celebration super special! Always a great meal and time! Our server was excellent!
I enjoyed this place very much for the music, unusual menu items and desserts. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the servers were friendly.
OMG! Oh the flavors! We started with a bottle of Pinot, bread and pesto sauce. So, so good! I could have just eaten that. I ordered the Khalua pork and my BF chicken satay. The meat was tender and full of flavor. The coconut rice and fried bananas made it extra special. I felt as though I was back in Hawaii! So many things on the menu I want to go back for (butternut squash ravioli and banana bread pudding). Although it's a small place the atmosphere is very romantic and cozy. They also have live music inside nightly. More...
Everything was delicious!!!
Too noisy; band was not good in the singing. Friendly waitress.
I come here pretty regularly and i'm never disappointed. Food and drinks are amazing, staff is fun and friendly.
Amazing. I've had this place booked marked for some time and finally made it in for breakfast. They have skillets! Say no mo fams. So hard to find a good Skillet. And it was everything I wanted it to be and more.Beautiful place and ambiance. Very nice staff. I loved my experience and can't wait to be back for a burger. More...
Its a fun place with alot of food choices. Not cheap but its good food. VERY LOUD inside. Ill sit outside next time. The coconut Margaritas were awesome. Samantha was our server and was very sweet and service oriented!! More...
Great server, tasty apps and nice happy hour pricing.
We took our daughter out for her birthday and had the best time! The food was amazing and service outstanding. Thank you!
If you are looking for a great spot in Encinitas for dinner then this is the spot. Chef Matt is fantastic I have dietary restrictions and he made it his mission to make me a meal that was outstanding. He came out to the table and talked with me about options. Everything came out great. Talk about above and beyond. Check them out on Tuesday their happy hour is all evening and the fish tacos are great! More...
Came here for a brunch. Party of 16. They service was amazing! They kept all 16 of our waters filled at all times. I had a Bloody Mary and it was perfect. For entree I had the Loco Moco and it was the best meal I've had in a while. As an appetizer my sister and I shared truffle fries with garlic aioli dip it was very tasty. Will definitely be back maybe with less people. More...
We shared a couple appetizers and everything was amazing!!
Went there with a huge party and they were so gracious and accommodating. Great service, wonderful live music and delicious tacos!
OMG , so good . Deserves 6 stars . Wish I lived nearby , I'd be here all of the time . Coming back . Had the Loco Moco breakfast and my wife had shrimp tacos and sangria . Coming back . Staff was super nice and friendly. More...
Great local place, and we're locals. That said, we did request an outside table via OpenTable, but were seated inside. Inside is WAY to loud, and soon as the staff was able to move us they did. Not sure where the fault came from, but it was all made good...cheers to Le Pappagayo for being so accommodating! More...
We came here for happy hour on Sunday. We were a bit disappointed because we had hope to get the tacos with the cheese shell but were informed that was only available during lunch. However the last time we came for a happy hour we were told they were available. The waitress basically said it depended on the cook and certain ones will still make them. However, the cook working that afternoon she knew he would not. The other couple we were with comes here more than us because they are closer and they said they have yet to figure out when the cheese shell tacos are available. It would be great if this could be added for happy hour. It’s a great keto option. More...
Returned to Le Papagayo after a long hiatus. Atmosphere, décor, menu and staff have greatly improved - so glad to have discovered it again. Only criticism is wait staff clearing plates when not everyone has finished their meal. Just let everyone enjoy the food, relax and chat … Otherwise, great food and fun location. More...
I went to Le Papagayo based on many good reviews that I read about its great Latin fusion food. First, the ambiance was EXCELLENT. However, the food and service were actually awful. I never leave reviews because I, like most people, am busy and don't have the time. Nonetheless, I feel it necessary to inform of my unlucky experience at your restaurant. We ordered many dishes to try, including the fried calamari, chicken wings, green salads, butternut squash, as well as cocktails. Nothing at all about this food was "Latin" in the sense of Latin American or even Iberian/Italic at all. I am from a family of incredible Italian cooks who would have been astonished to see that the word "ravioli" was even used for this nearly uneatable version of butternut squash. It was entirely flavorless, the filling completely lacking seasoning and texture (even a little olive oil, cream, or butter would have done it wonders). The so-called "pesto" was one of the reasons we ordered the dish in the first place (I even explained this to the server who should have then warned me), turned out a pathetic and stingy fresh parsley garnish. I suppose calling this dish "dumplings" would have better suited the dish, since it was resonant of an Asian pasta and did not utilize the basic Italian flavors in any way. The fried calamari--while I admit it must be a favorite as we saw that many tables around us had ordered it--was drenched in sweet and sour sauce that overpowered the calamari flavor we hoped for. To top the meal off, even the green salad was upsetting! In my dining experience, it is nearly impossible to ruin a simple green salad, but this is what I was unfortunately served: semi-wilted lettuce mixed greens, untossed and lacking sufficient dressing. I usually like salad lightly dressed anyway, but imagine what this experience was like: chewing mostly room-temperature dry leaves without dressing at all! Safe to say I will be warning my friends and family of this farce of restaurant hype. More...
Thank you, Chef Matt!! What an awesome experience. We came in on a Saturday night for a friends birthday party. Chef Matt and team took such good care of us. The food was delish and there was something for everyone in our group, drinks were top notch, and the awesome band playing made it lively and fun. Highly recommend. Will be back!! More...
Great little restaurant to pull off at and have lunch right on Hwy 101
We stood and waited for 15 minutes at 5:30 (our reservation time). Nobody came to talk to us.The girl with blue hair passed by us 3-4 times and ignored us.Very bad first impression.I would not go back again. More...
Get the Miso Sea Bass with crab fried rice, you're welcome.
Always fantastic! Great food. Chill San Diego ambiance. Live music. Not a fancy place but a place you can take old, young and hip or down to earth. It's all good! I've recommended Le Papagayo more than any other restaurant. More...
Great food. Not the best service. Our waitress often went mia for a while and wasn’t very attentive. Great food and drinks though
If you like a quiet dining experience where you can talk without literally yelling, be sure to sit outside. Le Papagayo is a fun happening place. The food, however can be iffy. Recently went for their specialty prime rib. Have had it in past and it was fantastic. Huge cut of meat. This last time the prime rib was literally tough as leather! My dog even had trouble chewing it. So, in the future, may just go for the vibe, order drinks and appetizers and sit outside. More...
Delicious food and great size portions! Everybody in our group raved about the food.
I would eat here weekly if I lived here. Service and standards are probably talked about everyday from management because both were on every employees mind. Thank you Thank you!!
Delicious healthy food and amazing music ❤️
Great food, great ambiance with great music! Big portion, drinks amazing! Will definitely come back!
Food was delicious. Not one thing we tried was disappointing. The service was amazing. They check up on you constantly and you're never without a drink. Then the manager came and introduced herself to us to make sure everything was going great. The French toast is by far the best I've ever tried. More...
First time there. We really loved the food and service. First thing, I was greeted by a new male employee by my first name. Awesome experience. We live in OC. Just camping in San Elijo. Will come again. More...
The food is really good and varied, from lobster bisque to chilaquiles to flatbreads with plenty of healthy choices. Service is pretty good and staff are friendly. Main downside is limited parking in their lot though usually able to find street parking. Go on Saturday for brunch. They have bottomless homemade sangria both red and white. I prefer the red. The guys behind the bar are the best! Jerome, Tyler and Anthony are awesome! Love this place!
Really dissappointed... I had gone to this restaurant in the past and had a great experience, not the case this time. We had a reservation and had to wait an additional 30 min to sit down even though there were many available tables. We went there for the live entertainment and we were placed outside where we could hear absolutely nothing. The feed was pretty good, but wasn't as great as I remembered. Too bad... i liked the fact that it was a local place with live music instead of a chain. More...
This has been one of my go to places for many years. After Saturday night, I’m not so sure. I was taken out for my birthday celebration. We asked for one slight modification on a dish, and it came out wrong. Wait staff was not attentive, and even getting To Go Boxes seem to be a challenge. More...
This was our second time eating here. I surprised my husband with reservations for our anniversary as he really enjoyed our first time here a few weeks ago. We arrived a bit earlier than our reservation time and waited till our table was ready. Upon being seated our waitress greeted us and handed us our menus. We placed a drink order. They arrived quickly . My husband had the mai tai and I kept it simple with a soda. He said it was very good. We ordered our appetizers and entrees. A short time later the mussels appetizer came out and it was delicious. Tender, flavorful and the sauce was perfect for dipping the crunchy crust bread. Soon after finishing up our mussels our entree came out. My husband ordered the Hawaiian pork entree and I got the lamb chops. I asked them to be medium rare. They arrived medium well. I quickly mentioned it to our waitress who apologized and said a fresh order would be made. My husband began eating and said his meal was very good. When my new meal came out, our waitress explained that because the lamb chops were small it’s sometimes hard to judge how much they’re cooked. Really?!? I find that hard to believe that a seasoned chef couldn’t judge the difference between cooking it medium rare and medium well. The second dish did come out correct and to our surprise the chef cane to check on my satisfaction and again stated that since the lamb chops vary in thickness it is hard to judge how much they were cooked. Same excuse. I felt a bit let down by this. My second meal was really good but I would expect them to get it done right the first time. This isn’t a fly by night operation, it is an established restaurant. I will give them another chance but will most likely just order drinks and appetizers. More...

great food and drinks. friendly service
I have had some pretty amazing Chorizo breakfast tacos, but hands down none can compare to Papagayo tacos. There are no words to describe this delicious set of fresh Chorizo breakfast tacos, they are mouth watering with a a little twist of tator tots to add to the delicious flavor. Great service and adorable decor, I'll definitely be back for more!! More...
Went on a Tuesday when they have happy hour all day! Happy hour apps are delicious!
This place is really a cool place for dinner and happy hour. My wife and I have been here a couple of times for both dinner and happy hour. We always sit outside because it's cool! The tables are fun and hip, they have plenty of heaters to warm you up, and blankets for those colder nights. The inside appears to be hip and modern as well, even though we have never been inside. A variety of beer and wine selection. My wife really likes their white sangria, and I choose the local IPAs. The food is delicious, you have a variety of options from flat breads, and salads to start, and for the main dish paella, to spaghetti bolognese, all delicious. We have done it both, a wide variety of delicious appetizers, or just dinner. Everything ordered is delicious. Your water never runs out, and the servers are always around if you need something. We will be back! More...
I had a great time here ~ could be a couple bucks less expensive ‘ .. but a good time , great vibe ‘ & excellent location ~
As always very good food, service was a little laggong
I went here with a group for dinner on a Sunday night. When we called ahead for a table, they said they would be able to seat us immediately upon arrival - nice. Our waitress was nice and the right amount of attentive. The dinner menu seemed fairly limited in terms of vegetarian/vegan options and non-beef options, but everyone decided on something that they were ultimately happy with. We ordered short rib, shrimp scampi, paella, zoodles, and lobster ravioli (me). I enjoyed the ravioli very much - there was no shortage of lobster stuffed into the pasta. We also ordered a carafe of red sangria; the frozen berries instead of ice was a pleasant change!I would come back for dinner, although I do see this as more of a lunch place, having been for lunch other times. Absolutely loved it!! Food, ambiance etc.... it’s a must if you are in the area.
We love Le Papagayo! The food is absolutely amazing! I wish parking was more available but that is all over Leucadia. Its great to have live music, casual beach feel, with fantastic food that tastes great but is healthful too! Love it!
never disappointing. Have been going for many years and if there was ever a small issue it got intermediately resolved. Manager, Kari i believe, was walking around all the time making sure everything was right.
We had an amazing night Excellent appetizers including Cauliflower, Artichoke Bottoms and Poke. The Prime Rib was delicious and all meals were thoroughly enjoyed. We sat outside on the patio and had a great evening. I highly recommend this fine restaurant as the ambiance, food and service were great. More...
Very good menu selections. Bill was higher than I expected.
The only problem I had was with the hostess who made us wait for a table 45 minutes when I could easily see 5 tables free the whole time. And I did not look into other back room or the back patio. So clearly many tables available she said where reserved. After finally getting seated, one table next to us was free from time we arrived at 4:45 to 7:15 when we left. (Almost 3 hours) as were many other tables. Also , Many tables then afterward were not bussed and people were waiting outside. This does not make sense. Originally, We were about to leave and I believe that other people did. What saved our night was Kelly our server. She was respectful of our complaint. Wanted to make it right and did with excellent service. We ended up leaving happy but because of Kelly’s service and the good food and drinks. More...
Such a great spot for happy hour and brunch. The service is always amazing and the food is reasonably priced! It's a great date night spot too since there always seems to be live music when my husband and I go.
Enjoyed a great Saturday night out - had dinner in the bar and listened to the band. Really fun place! Recommend a reservation - it was hopping!
Been here a couple of times now. Everything has been great. Recommend flat bread and the lamb.
Food is fantastic! The restaurant is a bit loud but overall we always enjoy coming here. Yum!
The service and food was good. I made a reservation several days in advance and requested patio because I was taking my dog. We were seated at a table with gravel at my feet and a palm tree from the ground, reason for the gravel I suppose as I did not see gravel at any of the other tables. It was a Friday night and packed. It was the only open low table and most comfortable to us. I would have asked for another table but would have had to wait and unfortunately I didn't have much time to wait. The tree was my forward facing view. It would be a good seat if they would remove the palm tree and gravel. Other than that it was good. More...

Always have enjoyed Le Papagayo. It's a neighborhood favorite.
Staff very friendly and welcoming. The food is a very good value. Live music is a plus!
Happy Hour specials were a nice surprise and we totally enjoyed the Ceviche, Mahi tacos, duck tacos and pesto flatbread.
I take back my earlier review ... the manager asked why I didn't like the truffle fries ... I told him they taste fishy ... he took care of the check and gave me the happy hour lamb chops ... he and my waitress were excellent ... the lamb chops were perfect ... I will be back regularly as just moved into this neighborhood and it's now my go-to place ... will bring friends More...
It's one of the few places locally with music. Fun spot. Lively. The food isn't over the top but a good neighborhood restaurant. It's worth going if your local.
Great atmosphere and delicious food!
What a great find! Good food and good music.
Great food and nice atmosphere. Definitely a great place for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The menu was extensive and the food was great ! There were six of us. and each person ordered something different. Every meal was delicious ! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back. More...
Love this place. The food, drinks, music and vibe are great for a night out with friends or for one on one. It is always busy so not the most quiet romantic spot if that’s what you’re looking for but everything I’ve had on the menu has been great.
Great food and atmosphere. A variety of menu choices, too. Our party was checked on by both the manager & Chef Matt...which is rare and speaks to their commitment to customer service & satisfaction. Go! More...
A very causal restaurant, with music nightly, both indoor and outdoor seating and delicious food! This is always a favorite!!
Good breakfast here! Cute little area for outside dining. Extra bonus point for having gluten free toast. The classic eggs Benedict was delicious and the poached eggs were cooked perfectly. Chilaquiles were yummy with carne Asada added. Kristin was our server and she was really nice and attentive. More...
Great music & Food, open table reservation is the way to go!
We had family In town and decided to try this new restaurant!! It was delicious and had a great vibe!! We will be back!!!
I booked an outside table about 10 days ahead of the date I wanted. A couple days before the date, I got a confirmation reminder. When we showed up at the restaurant, they had an inside table for us. They said that they try to accommodate inside vs outside but there are no guarantees. This was not mentioned when I made the reservation or when they sent me their reminder. We ended up leaving because we wanted the outdoor ambiance and did not want to be inside where it is noisier and just not our preferred vibe. More...
Food was really bad, this is basically a busy bar with a kitchen. The food was really terrible. The band was good and our server was nice and attentive.

Classy, relaxed, amazing food
Great Tuesday happy hour - all day! Chef Matt came to say hello, checked in on our meal and made us feel welcome. Perfect neighborhood spot
We had a girls date here back to back days with our pup because we had such an amazing lunch experience here. We came in around 2:30pm and dined outside on the side patio. Our doggy laid under the table while we ordered & ate our lunch.I had the strawberry goat cheese salad that was the most delicious thing I've ever had in my life! Wow did i just say that? I sure did. My friend & i split the goat cheese sweet potato fries that were divine! We loved our lunch so much we came back for dinner the following night. We were seated outside and closer to the music which was so fun and entertaining!! The only downfall with dinner was the portion sizes were so small, we left hungry. I splurged on the $28 salmon that was absolutely delicious but truly left me desiring more. For an expensive slice of salmon i expected to leave full. I will definitely be back for their lunch though!!!! More...
Wonderful experience. Arrived right around my reservation time and was promptly and courteously seated. Service was attentive, swift and friendly. Ambience was perfect as well. Food came out quickly and everything was plated nicely, cooked perfectly and honestly a bargain taking into account the quality of ingredients and spot on prep.Would recommend this place for a nice evening out with your significant other as well as with a group of friends. There are many options in the area and in my opinion many of them don't quite get the subtleties and small details right. This place does and it's readily apparent that the kitchen takes their food seriously. At some other places you get the feeling that it's just bar food being pushed out of a busy kitchen with little or no regard for quality, presentation or the diner. That being said I obviously give this place my highest recommendation. More...
This spot is perfect for after work meet up with friends. Indoor/outdoor bar seating and choice to sit in the patio too. I went to happy hour with a friend and the HH menu has some great choices. Seafood, salads, flat bread and tacos. The drinks were a perfect match too. If your in the area I highly recommend. More...
My family and I came here for my father's bday. Wow, the food and service was amazing! Our server Shannon was fantastic and the head chef "Chef Matt" greeted us with a visit to our table. Highly recommend ordering the spicy macadamia calamari and miso glazed sea bass. We can't wait to come back! More...
Retirement get together - nice evening with two other couples - appetizers were excellent - we asked through open table if we could sit outside but we’re told that that they don’t look at open table special requests - and that we needed to call them to request outside - so we sat inside - never heard that before
I've driven past Le Papagayo for years and thought it looked inviting from the outside with it's fire towers and patio lights. Finally I got in there to try it out. After two visits I feel I'm ready to say I'm a fan. From the friendly hostess, to the very nice bartenders we had a good experience. This place is very casual and can get chilly inside with the open windows. We sat at the bar and ordered a bottle of Justin wine. My daughter had the shrimp ceviche and I had the Papagayo flatbread. Both dishes were delicious. We also enjoyed the live music! More...
Noise level made conversation difficult, esp with band playing almost constantly. Menu is large and varied. Some items better than others, i.e. the stroganoff. The Caesar salad has little taste and is not enhanced with the addition of ingredients. Filet points on toast good but beef could be more tender, less chewy. Dynamite is ultra spicy. Wine list very ordinary. More...
So far this is my favorite spot in Encinitas. Their seafood is all amazing. On a post-work get together we got a number if appetizers, drinks, and entrees, and none of it disappointed.I started with a margarita which was on a happy hour special. A little too sweet in my opinion, but definitely strong! I ordered another.Their bread was decent, pesto dipping sauce was amazing. The coconut shrimp, ceviche, and crab cake appetizers were all amazing. The ceviche was a little watery but had nice cuts of shrimp in it and for $2 the added avocado was a good size.Others seem to be happy about their entree selections of steak, mussels, and oysters. One of the shelled ones with pesto sauce apparently had too strong of a pesto taste though, which I didn't think was possible!Overall, the group was very satisfied with all the food. It is a little pricey but worth it for a special night out and right by the water in Encinitas, good portions and flavors. The atmosphere back on the patio with heaters also really made for a great night! More...
Enjoyed our lunch. Delicious tadty food. I had a luxury burtito.Ambience is so relaxed and cool. Refreshing.
Food was amazing and the best sangria in town!!!!
Great food and drinks with a relaxed beachy vibe! Happy hour menu is everyday 3-6 and the HH food and drink deals are the best (sangria & mussels!)
Menu, drinks and food came out late. Our waitress didn’t seem to be bothered by it, almost annoyed that we were there.
Great time at Le Papagayo! We came in for brunch on Sunday, there was a line out the door so you know it's good! Our hostess, super friendly girls, told us we were able to be seated right away in doors (they have an awesome outdoor patio if you're willing to wait a little bit) but we opted to sit at the bar! Our bartender Jerome was awesome, we got really delicious spicy Bloody Mary's! He took great care of us. We ended up chatting with the head Chef Matt, and he recommended the skillet cinnamon roll special! Oh my gosh! So good! It came with a house vanilla frosting & whip cream! Perfect for after our veggie skillet! Service was fast, efficient and friendly. Can't wait to make this our go-to Sunday brunch spot! Thanks for the great end to our weekend!!! More...
The calamari appetizer was our favorite! Great atmosphere and good deals on happy hour.
Clearly the place to be on Saturday night!!! Always a winner for food and service but must remember to request rear patio!
overall alot of fun. good live music. We order the tapas and tasting menu, had the thai muscles which was good, the papagayo salad was mostly lettuce and not much dressing. The artichoke bottoms are delicious, but an appetizer (very little vegetable) the dynamite fish dish was tasty, but very rich. We got passed between a few servers so the service was a bit lower than usual, but not bad. More...

This restaurant never disappoints! Always great food and service and such a great ambiance. Love the live music too!
I was originally not excited the only dining I could get was outside but it was tremendously cozy, the outdoor heaters were on and they even had comfy blankets! Coming from Va, I had High expectations for muscles and they did NOT disappoint. The service was outstanding. All of the recommendations I got to come here since moving were right on! More...

Happy Hour all night on a Tuesday!
Luckily the restaurant we were headed to was closed on Monday so we walked about a block and a half, discovering Le Papagayo. How fortunate for us! Loved the casual beach like atmosphere and it was difficult to decide what to order since there were so many tempting choices on the menu. I chose the flatbread with pears and Brie while my companion had the fish tacos. My meal was something I had never tried before and was really delicious. Our waiter was lacking in replenishing our water and checking on us, therefore minus one star. The other waitstaff seemed to be more in tune with their customers.I will definitely return to sample the other fascinating choices! More...
Everything was great. The only complaint was with the hostess. She just was not friendly enough. She also couldnt help me find our waiter when i was trying to locate him to give him my credit card when he was away from the table (it was my treat). I didnt want my guests see me pay. The waitress said, "I don't know who your waiter is"! More...
Real poor service and very high prices compared to other local restaurants. Food was pretty great, waiter seemed mad at us for some reason. Probably wouldn't go back.

Had never been to Papagayo, and was pleasantly surprised at the quantity and quality of the food. They have an extensive menu, so there’s something for everyone. We had a great time.
Really fun environment with a great menu. The food, service, and live music was Great!
Came here for drinks, and husband and I were really impressed! And I already know we are coming back! First of, food and drinks are good and on Tuesdays its all day Happy Hour! And they have great Happy Hour deals M-F ! The portions are big and that is not always the case on HH. We've tried a couple of IPAs which were all good, and we munched on the Truffle Fries which was amazing! Crunchy, crispy, flavorful with Garlic Aioli dip. Service is fantastic! Our waitress was on top of it all! Our orders came quick! The food hot and fresh. and She was really nice and friendly too! There's a live band everyday! Check out their website for the schedule. Plenty of parking space, by the restaurant and street parking. We will definitely be backkkk! More...
A few things:1. You need a reso2. VERY loud inside (crappy live music), but if you come here you should request to be seated outside anyway because the ambiance is SOO much nicer. I feel a little annoyed that I had a reso and still got this shitty table inside that was pressed up against the bar and right in the path of the back door. Literally the worst table possible3. Food is good, not great4. Sangria is WAY too sweet. It tasted exactly like fruit punch and clearly came from a pre-mixed bottle. I'm entirely certain people only like this because it's sweet, and people love sweet things More...
Great food and live music - what a great combination!
Awesome arugula and prosciutto pizza and chicken satay. Plus the mussels are amazing.
After a day at the Carlsbad Flower Fields, came across this place. Looks like a beach shack fast service restaurant on outside, but is actually a very large restaurant on the inside with a sit down bar and craft cocktails. Great happy hour, big portions at reasonable prices! The food comes out fast and hot. The service is OK, our server was very laxadazicle. Also, it drives me nuts when severs and bussers see finished dishes and walk right past them, it's just laziness in the restaurant business, and lack of attention to detail, especially for a restaurant with the average check for 2 people with drinks being Aprx. $100. We ordered the following:Mussels with white wine sauce- delishLobster Bisque- Agreed with others may be the best I've ever hadArugula, jam, prosciutto flatbread with balsamic glaze-yumWe also ordered a duck taco and shrimp taco that were flavorless. My duck taco was so dry I couldn't eat it. Our server brought us salsa for the shrimp which gave it flavor, but shrimp tacos should never need added flavor, the shrimp should stand alone in the taco and be buttery and flavorful! I ordered the sangria- way too sweet and sugary. I couldn't drink it. I also ordered a mezcal cocktail with tajin rim and their version of a Paloma. Both great drinks, well balanced and fresh juices, syrups and garnishes. Overall great meal, the rest of the food I saw people ordering looked delicious so I will come back next time I'm in town. Loved loved loved this place! Great atmosphere, great food and fabulous music. Got to visit with the chef - what a delightful man! Definitely coming back!
Great fish and duck tacos. Everyone in our group had something different and loved it all.
The location and ambience is really popping it seems every night with always being crowded. We made the mistake of being a walk-in and we decided to put our name down for the next week instead. I'm so glad we did with our reservations because once again it was packed and people were on waiting lists for over and hour just to get in.My favorite part of the whole night was the amazing lobster bisque and miso Chilean sea bass. The bisque has a good ratio of lobster to soup. The cream was very rich as well. The sea bass was very tender and melted in your mouth. It came with lobster fried rice which wasn't the best but it was still tasty overall.I would definitely recommend making reservations in advance. Order any of the lobster dishes. More...
Good service and cozy atmosphere. The Happy Hour menu was impressive and delicious. I recommend the Pear and Brie flatbread.
This has to be the best restaurant in Leucadia/Encinitas overall. Great environment inside and out! The menu has a wide selection of food from a breakfast through dinner. I recommend the shrimp and grits for breakfast, the egg salad sandwich for lunch and jumbo scallops for dinner. Of course these are my favorites. The whole staff makes you feel welcome and are very friendly. Shout out to Manager Renee, severs Al, Kristen, Sarah, Shawn, head chef Matt and all the others. Also live music every night is a major plus. More...
This place was amazing! Great food and a huge menu! So many things to choose from. Small restaurant and somewhat of a strange set up, but overall I would highly recommend! Also there playlist was bomb!
Gals day get together. Lovely time on the patio with girlfriends from high school, and you don’t want to know how many years it’s been! We enjoyed good cocktails and food. Thank you More...
Dinner was perfect.
Came here for dinner to celebrate my grandma's birthday and had a GREAT experience! Everyone absolutely loved their food and I can't wait to return. I ordered the Seafood Penne which had gluten free penne, salmon, mahi mahi, shrimp, scallops & mussels in a light marinara cream sauce. It was so delicious!! My grandma loved her salmon, said it was some of the best she has ever had. They also brought a slice of cheesecake for her birthday and it was great. Their breakfast & lunch menu looks amazing and I'm looking forward to coming back.Pros: Great location, live music, great menu with a wide selection, delicious food!! Cons: Very noisy inside (came on a Friday night), very small parking lot that is difficult to get in and out of. More...
Went with another couple and all thought Le Papagayo was the best food of the trip. It was all outstanding. It was very busy that night and server was working a large table so sometimes we had to wait for additional requests. I think building design means the place is always a little noisy, but this night they also had live music (a duo) which added to the noise level. Not overwhelming where we were sitting but probably would have preferred the music started later. The food, however, made up for it. Outstanding. More...
Food and service phenomenal. Live music was nice touch stayed in background - didn’t interrupt discussion. Just a totally great experience. So good I went back the next night! More...
Review is for their customer service. they saw our group was dying from the hot sun sitting out in the patio and they brought out two umbrellas for shade. -1 star cause my food was okay & parking kind of sucks so we parked on the other side of the road & had to play frogger. More...
Friendly, efficient service even on a very busy night! Fun entertainment!
Food was average- expected better
Great service and accommodating for our toddler as well.
We stumbled upon this spot and really enjoyed our experience. The food was great and so was the service. Super cute spot!
Food was fantastic, great atmosphere to be with friends for a night out without the kids.. the only disappointment was the service and dessert. Our waitress did not have that enthusiasm I look to have a wonderful experience and the dessert was something I could have just put together at home. We will definitely go back and try the outside tables now that the rain is gone! More...
Ate here for Sunday Brunch. The food was excellent!
Great food, perfect service and nice atmosphere. Live music was fun as well.
This is our Tuesday go to place . Live music and discounted appetizers, happy hour what more can you ask for . Wait times can be challenging if you walk in but we make reservations and get right in . The honey spicy shrimp appetizers the best ! Happy eating More...
Staff was excellent in handling our large group and made it a memorable meal for all. Service was timely and not staggered.
Food was delicious, ambiance was great with the live music. Had a reservation but felt rushed, we were there about an hour.
I’d definitely will be back. The nightly music adds to the local vibe not a corporate cookie cutter restaurant.
Papagayo never disappoints. Neighborhood gem. Outstanding mussels. Great, crispy coconut shrimp!
Delightful. Staff is friendly and helpful. We had a tricky cork from an old bottle of wine, and we were thoroughly impressed with the care taken to remove the cork without causing it to crumble into the wine. Also ... classic mussels are the best in town! We sat on the patio which is very nice. More...
Nice atmosphere; excellent food at a fair price.
Great food, great service and timely receipt of food all made for a lovely evening. Dinner after six means it will be loud and the cacophony precludes any dinner conversation, but the food is great. We have been to the restaurant at an earlier hour which was quiet and conversation was easier. More...
Anthony is so awesome! Made my night with honest authentic candor! Just a lil splash
One of our favorite restaurants in Encinitas- probably in all of San Diego County. We've come for brunch, lunch, and dinner and all are amazing. A perfect mix of healthy options and deliciously unhealthy choices. Shrimp scampi, salmon, and lamb chops are all amazing. But whatever you do you mustttt get the apple pie. I don't even like pie. I told my boyfriend he could have it all. Then I took a bite. It's so good I will crave it every day for a long time. Service also can't be beat. Nicest servers and hosts. Shannon is our favorite. Such a great restaurant, don't skip it! More...
It was just really cold on the side porch but everything else was good.
Loved our dinner, food and ambiance. Unfortunately we sat for almost 15 minutes before a waitress greeted us. She seemed too busy. And didn't check back very often
With reservation I had to wait 20 minutes due to mismanaging.Eventhough I asked for inside seating they gave me an small table outside. Food was great so was service
I love this restaurant!! Very loud by the music but great food and good service! Took a little while for the waitress to come over at first but after that it was great :)
Sat outside and enjoyed the music. Staff worked with us and sat us in an ideal location for a larger group! Soooo fun! I’m a repeat customer and always bring people to this amazing spot! Food. Friends. Fun. Freaking incredible! More...
