We loved LakesCakes. Their location is out of their home which is personable and conveniently located. We loved almost every kind of cake & mouse filling that we tried. Their cake was very affordable. We compared their pricing to Costco, and as Costco price was cheaper, LakesCakes provided more layers of cake per slice, than Costco. I found Lakes Cakes on The Knot while looking for wedding cakes.  My fiance and I tried a lot of cakes to find the one ( one of the best parts of planning imo) and I can say with confidence that Lakes is one of the best out there. We picked up a sample box from their home and were so surprised by the amount of cake we recieved! I'm picky but enjoyed every single flavor.  Even better,  their prices were incredibly fair.  We decided to book them for our wedding. Before our wedding though my fiance's father's 70th birthday came up and we wanted to do something special.  A fancy cake was just what we needed. He's very big into fishing so we decided to get a 3d tackle box. I sent Lakes a couple images I found online and they were quick to give me a price (so cheap!) And agree on a style. The cake was ready on time and beautiful!!!! Everyone was shocked at how cool it looked and we're actually eating it as I type and it's just as delicious as I remembered.  I cannot wait till my wedding to get another taste! Thanks Lakes Cakes! I couldn't be happier with my choice to have Lakes Cakes design my wedding cake. They make it super convenient to sample their cakes. We opted to simply stop by and pick up a sample box. My finance and I were blown away by how much cakes and fillings we received. We were also given a firm quote at the time which also was great. Lakes Cakes is the best bakery in Metro Detroit  - I have been ordering from Lakes Cakes for 8 years and they have never disappointed me.  My kids and guests loved the cake designing and flavors. We have ordered 3D, Tiered Cakes and Adult themed cakes from them. My fav Lakes Cakes flavors include Strawberry coulis with white batter and Choc with Bavarian cream second. I needed a special birthday cake made without eggs for my grandson who has a major allergy to them. I also didn't want a cake decorated with fondant figures.  I wanted true cake decorating. When I saw that Heidi did vegan cakes and how beautiful her cakes were, I decided to give her a try.   Everyone agreed the cake was tasty and moist. There was a difference in the texture but it wasn't a bad thing, just different. I texted her a photo of a book jacket to copy the dog's face from his favorite book. Very happy with a 3 tier Harry Potter cake i ordered in June 2017. I called the day before in a panic thinking i would never be able to find something nice in time. I really left the design up to them only offering minimal ideas and when i picked the cake up i was so happy! They were helpful trying to work within our budget, followed our particular requests for a naked style cake with minimal frosting perfectly, and were flexible in their delivery to ensure neither of us had to worry about the cake after the initial order. Lakes Cakes creates beautiful 3D cake sculptures and other types of cakes that taste as good as they look. Their buttercream is the best I have ever tasted. Every year I get my son and husband's birthday cake from them. I have read some of the negative reviews here, and it obviously looks like some folks are just looking for trouble or a free cake! I have found the owners to be cordial, professional and are extremely patient when you are trying to finalize a cake design.
