My hubby and I frequent this restaurant and love Diego!  The food is delicious, hot and seasoned well!  You must get a flan with a cafe con leche after your meal.  The best!To the owner: My only issue is that whenever I dine at La Vina my clothes smell like Cuban food.  Maybe the place needs a better fan, exhaust fan in their kitchen More...

This is one of the last true old country Cuban restaurants left... Worth a visit!! Everything is great!

It's been several months since we've visited this place and I still think about the fried pork and plantains. And the beans! If I could figure out how they make the beans worthy of mention in any food review, I would be the happiest man on Earth! The food is authentically Carribbean (at least from my one experience in Puerto Rico) and delicious. My wife had her all-time favorite yucca and it was just as good here as it was in San Juan. Next time we're in the neighborhood, this is an obvious lunch-spot for us. More...

A strip mall gem. The food is great, the decor is Calle Ocho, and prices are reasonable. The service is friendly, but in typical Cuban fashion it's informal and slow. But so what, that just gives you more time to enjoy your quality meal. Start off with the best empanadas in Houston, giant papas rellenas, and crusty Cuban bread. Order the picadillo, ask for congris instead of rice and black beans, and wash it down with an Ironbeer. If you're an ex-Miamian you'll feel right at home. Two thumbs up from me. More...

Very good food! We had the plantain chips and a beef empanada for our appetizers. For our entrees I got ropa vieja which came with steamed rice, garlic yuca, and black beans. My husband had the liver with rice, black beans, and plantains. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered and will be back to try more of their dishes. More...

Very quaint cafe with delicious food. Diego, the waiter, is quite attentive; he doesn't interrupt one frequently and gets straight to the point. I strongly recommend the pernil, which is accompanied with white rice, black beans and your choice of yucca w/ ajo or plantains. Diego knows I always have my papaya shake with all meals here. I grew up Haitian and the papaya shakes taste like my mom's. Super happy I found this place; this has become my biweekly fix!!! Portion sizes are just right! You won't be disappointed. More...

Quiet, family feel restaurant with good Cuban eats!  This isn't a fancy spot by the food was fantastic.  Being from Miami, it's always nice to find authentic Cubano food.  We have the fried pork and steak with onions. Each dish came with some of the best black beans, rice and plantains.  The ham croquets tasted like your Cuban grandmother baked them fresh out of the oven.  And the coffee was delicious!!! Was looking for some place different to eat, and came here based on other Yelp reviews.  Definitely a hole-in-the-wall atmosphere. Had the Pechuga de Pollo and the Camarones Plancha. Great service. Senor Diego is an elder statesman with service fit for a king! The owner Ms. Jeannie with the help of her Mom have made this a favorite. The Rabo Encendido (Ox Tail) is the best in Texas. If you are Cuban you would have to go to Cuba or Miami to find better and know the difference. I am Cuban American and have eaten at all Cuban eateries in Houston. Yes some have a better location, but none have a one two punch like La Vina. Great Price, Food and service.. More...

This is where the Cubans in Houston gather for their fix of home cooking served up by Diego, the iconic Cuban waiter since the halcyon days of the beloved Cardet's Restaurant on Fairview street. The portions are generous, the prices are cheap and the atmosphere is raucous, especially Wednesdays at lunch, when the Cuban elder statesmen and women invariably break out in song. More...

This place is great! My family goes where ever Diego is serving. He's been in the busy for as long as I can remember. He's serviced my family for 20 years now. Although I am COLOMBIAN and very proud of it, I love Cuban food. I am a Foodie and Houston's food is growing at an impressive rate. Without all the fuse and frills that other "high end" Latin restaurants offer, La Vina is authentic. It delivers great food at a great price. Ropa Vieja, as many have reviewed is delish. The pastelitos de Guava y queso is excellent. Get them while their hot, they tend to sell out very quickly. The  coffee is on point and if your well versed in Cuban culture and food, ask for Colada. It is the equivalent to Italian espresso. Cortadito is Colada + milk. Overall, I love this place. I've taken people for lunch and dinner from all backgrounds, American-Caucasian, Afro-American, Mexican, Jewish, Lebanese and Russian. They all love it. Thank Diego and your team for doing a great job! A ver si hacen Lechon un dia ;) More...
