On September 21st of last year I was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. I was issued an order of removal that would’ve not only separated me from my friends & loved ones but also prevented me from entering the country for 10+ years after my said removal. I’m not a felon nor do I have a criminal record, Of course I’m not a saint but I don’t believe I’m a terrible human being either. Yet I spent 9 months in captivity fighting for the opportunity to remain in the place I consider home, I have not been to my native country since I was a baby. My first lawyer said I’d be free in 2 months, He was fired 4 months later. That’s when I began to realize that maybe it wasn’t possible, maybe I’d lose everything & be removed from the country. My mental health began to deteriorate, Being in captivity, lack of sun, lack of sleep, being surrounded by so much sadness at seeing fathers separated from their families, brothers, nephews, being looked at as if I were a roach during my visits to the immigration center in Chicago was a lot to handle & I almost threw in the towel but then I thought of my sister, my brothers, my mother especially. My father abandoned me & my siblings, I couldn’t forgive myself if I would’ve left them. So me & my family decided to continue fighting even if it were only a 1% chance of winning, we hired Mr. Kriezelman. He worked very hard so that I could be released & have an opportunity other people can only dream of. I am still here only because of him & his team. The way that my wife and I met Attorney Kriezelman was nothing short of a miracle. We got a reference from a Social Worker at the clinic we were attending while my wife was pregnant and pretty much told us to go to some Downtown address. We waited for what seemed like forever not knowing who was coming or what to expect. When Attorney Kriezelman did show up, he asked us some questions - pretty much asking who we were. At the end of the meeting he said there shouldn't be any problems with the immigration process. The following week we signed some papers at his office. My husband and I visited 2 local immigration lawyers before meeting with Erin. We live about 3 hours from Chicago in Indiana. Within minutes of meeting Erin we knew she was going to be the one to help our family. She was warm, welcoming, very patient as we asked a lot of questions over and over.
