I love this place, the Acrobatics teacher Patrick is amazing! Patrick helped me feel so much more confident in my flipping skills. The hand balancing classes are great as well, the instructor is one of the best I have ever seen in my life for hand balancing. I would recommend this place for anyone trying to better them selves in athleticism!Btw their acts they have are also very entertaining. I really enjoyed the Chinese pole act it was so cool! More...

We came here as guests for a 7 year old's birthday party. Street parking was easy on a Saturday afternoon, they allowed food and non-alcoholic beverages, private single bathroom (no changing table), and couch for us adults to chill at while the kids (6 years old and older) were split up into groups of about 10 per instructor as they learned how to balance on a pipe, ball, walk the tight rope, and use the silks. They also had the kids learn physical humor / act like clowns. Space was clean (food was only allowed in the main lobby area and they're pretty strict about it), high ceilings. Don't know about price, didn't get a good gauge regarding staff but overall the kids really had a blast - one of the most unique birthday parties we've been to. More...

I actually can't believe it has taken me so long to write a review!  I have been coming here for aerial classes for a couple of years now and just started hand-balancing as well. This studio not only has the highest ceilings in LA at 30', but also some world class coaches. This is a circus school and like any school if you put in the work you will progress. Many of the instructors come from Cirque du Soliel and perform professionally all over the world. As an event planner I have even hired them on multiple occasions to perform at my events and they are extreme professionals from performance and character to makeup and costuming.   So much so that the same client I hired them to do back-to-back events at didn't even recognize them as the same people!! It can feel a bit pricey when you first look at the costs because it is a per session fee, but when you break it down per hour it is actually one of the more well-priced circus studios in LA. And the more classes you take the more you save. Everyone who works here and takes classes here are super supportive. No matter your level. Students who train here to make a circus career (rather than just as a hobby like myself) go on to do touring shows and all sorts of big circus productions professionally. Circus is a relatively small community in general and to surround yourself with a supportive, but serious group like the people at kinetic theory turns your circus hobby into a healthy and happy lifestyle. 4.5 stars. I took an Aerial 101 class.  Group warm-up and stretching on the floor, rope + silks + trapeze conditioning drills.  I feel the class changes and is modified a bit by the preferences of the instructor and other students.  So when a bunch of regulars seem to really want to do trapeze, and the instructor is more keen on going over combinations on a specific apparatus, well, then that's what you do.Pros:- When you read their class policy (which you have to sign), it specifically says that if you are sick to please not come to class, and to do a makeup.  I feel that other aerial studios should take note of this.  I understand the need to be responsible and not cancel frivolously, but a lot of cancelation policies at other schools are ridiculous.  I don't understand why an aerial studio would not allow a cancellation over sickness; I think they are just asking for it when someone comes in ill, climbs the silk, inadvertently spreads their bodily fluids, and poof, 10 other people get sick.- Ceilings are high, multiple studios to train- Classes are not open level. There is a troupe.  Classes are by term, but allow student drop-ins to some extent.  Emphasis on student performance/workshop at end.- Solid instructors.- Strong community feel.- 1 rope, ~3-5 silks, 5 trapeze. ~5-8 students. I admit, Kinetic Theory is probably my favorite aerial studio in Los Angeles- and for a lot of reasons. The teachers, the classes, the studio, cleanliness, safety, parking, and location. Classes are generally an hour and a half long and a serious workout. Instead of doing an hour of just trapeze, or just silks, like most studios do, they have aerial classes for levels 1 2 and 3 where you cover all aspects of aerial conditioning on multiple apparatuses. So far I've only tried the aerial classes and aerial pilates and I love both of them. They offer so many classes and various times so it's easy to pick a class that works with your schedule. I recommend taking a class with Eric. What I also love about this studio is they have a sense of community for all their students. I've been to many studios and students usually just come and go but it's not like that here.Traffic in the area is usually easy, and there is plenty of free parking in their front lot and on the street. Classes are great for everyone, from scared beginners to seasoned aerialists. More...

The facility is also beautiful, spacious, and offers terrific equipment. The school doesn't just focus on skills or give you a workout. I've found that teachers and students here inspire each other to develop their artistry -- something that many performers talk about but rarely practice, perhaps because they don't know how. This is a deeply positive place to be, and not in that fake LA way. It is pricey, especially since I only do drop in classes and not their "program". It's like signing up for a workshop for several weeks, you pay less per class the longer you're signed up for classes. But I only am able to take classes when I'm available. They're like 30/class. I started here to help me better in my pole classes and it does make a difference. The instructors are amazing with their teaching technique and helping you to stretch properly. Also helping to push you further and stretch more that I thought I could do. There's awesome AC which I take as a privilege now for most studios don't seem to have any!! I love this place!  I am not a professional by any means, but this is the best aerial studio I have ever been too!  Stephanie & Eric are very knowledgeable!  They strive to make you the best that you can be!  I have been taking the Beginner Aerial class on Tuesday mornings & the Beginner Contortion class on Wednesday evenings, and I love them both.  I love the room we practice contortion in, it is a slightly springy, cushion-y floor which is easy on your knees while working on splits.  I also like practicing handstands & backbends in this room.  I have taken a contortion class at another studio which made you practice on hardwood floors, which was very painful and hindered my progress.  This place is huge, it doesn't look like it is from the outside, but it is!  There are two large aerial studios, one which has a full setup with lights and seating for observers.  There are cubies to store your stuff, but I usually just put my bag in whatever room my class is in, and it has never been an issue.      Kinetic Theory will let you enroll in classes at anytime and prorate your tuition, they also have payment plans available, and you get a discount if you enroll in more than one class.  Most other aerial studios will not let you "drop in" or enroll in a class if it has already started, but this place will let you drop into any class up until a few weeks before the end of the session.  I moved to CA during the middle of Fall session, so they prorated my tuition for me for the remaining few weeks.  The office staff is very friendly as well.  They also have $10 open gym several times a week to practice what you have learned in class.  Again, most other places I have gone to do not offer this, except maybe on a Saturday, and only if you pass some rigorous fitness test!  Parking is pretty good too, there is a lot to the right of  the front entrance, and you can park in the spots on the left in the evening.  I have not had any issues as far as parking goes.    I highly recommend this place!  I have learned more here in 2 months than I have in in the past 2 years taking aerial classes at other places! My family and I all love Kinetic Theory. My daughter started first with a few friends from school and was immediately hooked on all the different circus arts she was able to try. In the kids class they get to do mime, juggling, trapeze, fabric, acrobatics and more. The kids are never bored and get a kick out of the new skills they are learning. After seeing my daughter's class I was so impressed by how fun it looked that I couldn't wait to give it a try. I started with the beginning aerial class and was hooked that first class (no pun intended). There is no better way to work out, in my opinion, than doing something challenging and interesting. The feeling of achievement I get when I learn a new skill is amazing. My son found it really hard to wait till he was 4 to have his turn in the younger children's class. He loves it and his teachers are supportive and warm.I enjoy it there so much that I also signed up for contortion, the contortion teacher is the owner of the studio. I love her coaching style, she is very careful to make sure you are using proper technique so you don't injure yourself and is supportive and fun. This studio is very safety-conscious, they take it really seriously. They don't let kids mess around in class but this is for their own safety. They need to be supervised closely or it's dangerous. My daughter (4yo) had her free intro lesson here and loved it!  The instructor was great and really worked to accommodate the personalities in the group. The group was of mostly shy kids so the instructor had to also encourage them to adjust to the class and surroundings.  I was also impressed by the building which was clean and had a great vibe. I also really appreciated that my kidlet had a tour of the facility given by an articulate 7 year old which automatically made her feel more welcome and comfortable. A few tips for the kids classes1. Do the free trial class see if it works for your child at that time. If they are not doing it, or getting much out of it wait to try it later.  The previous post about the 3year old pretty much sums this up though I agree the situation should have been dealt with better.  2. Starting your child in a dance or gymnastics class at an earlier age will get them set for this. Other that that don't force your child into it if its not their thing, my kidlet just wasn't into gymnastics but this she's all for. The small differences between acrobatics and gymnastics are a big deal to her. More...

I had an exceptional experience here, and I cannot stress this enough, i am a terrible student. No, really. It's bad. I get incredibly frustrated when I don't pick up things quickly, and I was no high school jock. Athletics don't come naturally to me. I thought that the clean and jerk was something from the kama sutra and there are lowrider cars that can jump rope better than I (see recently viral YouTube video for proof). So why was it exceptional? Two words: Eric Yu. He's only here occasionally so apparently you have to seek him out specifically if you want training/coaching. But recently I spoke with a few people who have done some circus training, and it sounded like a good way to mix up my workout routine and do something different. I get way too bored too quickly just plodding away on a treadmill like a gerbil on a wheel.I arrived and did some stretching, he showed me how to do it and encouraged me to push myself but not to exceed my limits. Then we spent the hour doing three separate exercises, one climbing the rope, one with the silk sheets, and one on the trapeze itself. i actually mounted the trapeze (I'm sure that's not what it's called) on my first try, and while it certainly did not replicate the grace or dignity of anything you've seen in a Cirque show (I think I looked more like a drunk at 2am humping a recycling bin)... I did it!I'm an impatient student, easily frustrated, and sometimes get moody when I'm doing something new if I don't instantly thrive. Somehow Eric helped me to relax, enjoy the experience... he was encouraging without being patronizing... pushed me without overstepping. Just a really great experience.I'm sore, but in a good way. It was a LOT more fun than going to "the gym", and after seeing a Cirque show (really) last night, I'm super-excited to master the basics in the next month or two. My follow-up lesson is this Friday, and I can't wait... More...
