More...

Loved our recent stay at Kilima. Michellle and Renhard are great hosts and give the lodge swungl. The recently opened Spa is amazing and Richard gave me one of the best reflexology treatments I have ever had. I enjoyed the mix of activities you can do here, as opposed to the standard morning & afternoon game drives most lodges offer. Great place to either get your Big 5 fix in the neighboring reserve or use it as a base to explore the area. More...

Me and my two children stayed at Kilima Private Game Reserve and Spa for 2 nights and it was amazing! We were booked into the family suite, so the kids had their own luxurious, cosy room and I had my own. The suite were beautifully decorated and every bit of detail, from the high quality linen to the comfy robe were perfect.|| ||The food was always delicious. The kids especially enjoyed Elliot's chocolate cake! One morning we ordered breakfast to be brought to our rooms, and while we enjoyed our beautifully plated food, we were spoiled by two Njala bulls who were playfully bumping heads in the open field in front of our room.|| ||We got to see elephant, lions, buffalo, sable, roans, a hippo and many other wildlife species on our game drive. JJ, the ranger, took special care to show my kids interesting seeds and insects, and even pointed out the difference between a baboon spider's and a scorpion's nest.|| ||Throughout our stay at Kilima, the staff was absolutely amazing with my kids. They were friendly and playful and really made sure that they (and me) had everything we needed. Because of the ever-smiling and helpful Siphiwe, I even had time to go to Kukura Wellness Spa, and OH MY!!! WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! I've never seen such a beautiful spa, and Richard, the Spa Manager, gave me an amazing treatment which left me feeling like an new me!|| ||All in all, I applaud Renhard, the general manager and his staff and I highly recommend Kilima Private Game Reserve and Spa to everyone. My husband and I spent three days at Kilima. The accommodation is luxurious, the food delicious and the service excellent. Billy is the consummate host, professional, knowledgeable and with many a story to tell. His company was a true delight. The game drives allowed us to view the animals up close and were included in the price, as were three meals a day. This made the lodge excellent value for money. The highlight for us was seeing the breeding herds of sable, buffalo and roan which they are breeding to help repopulate the Kruger National Park. ||Also dark skies star-gazing and the stunning view from Lovers Deck over the veld and surrounding hills. We also enjoyed the trip to the mining ghost town and the 2500 year old Baobab tree. Kilima is a very special place and I don't think that I have ever felt more spoilt on a holiday before. More...

Amazing resort with all the luxuries of a five star hotel, magnificently designed around African themes. Billy McKechnie and his staff was fantastic and extremely attentive, accommodating our every need from dietary requirements to facilitating with game drives. A personal touch was the trip to Leyds Dorp with Billy filling us in on the rich history of former president Paul Kruger and the many ghost stories of the area. Highly recommend this wonderful retreat to the African bush. More...

On 27 November 2017 we took a trip to Kilima Game Reserve and done so to beat the festive rush and peak season to relax without being crowded. ||||The setting is prestine with excellent food, breakfast, lunch and dinner. We recently stayed at Kilima, which was without a doubt one of our most memorable trips ever. We are South Africans living in Hong Kong and very well travelled. Kilima under Billy Mckechnie's management ticked every box as far as a five-star experiences are concerned. The stunning location, luxurious rooms with every bit of detail, amazing game drives and the gourmet food were just the headlines. As foodies ourselves, we were blown away by Billy's four course dinners, which hit the spot every evening. The staff are very efficient, offering great service; and importantly, always with a big smile. We will be back without a doubt; and more importantly, tell all our friends from Hong Kong to ensure Kilima is part of any visit to South Africa. Kudos and thank you! More...

Travelling from Australia, I wanted to show the family a real African experience, being from South Africa originally this was really important. Kilima turned out to far exceed my expectations and ended up being an amazing few days in the African bush. The service by Billy Mckechnie and his team at Kilima was exceptional, my wife and young son thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The food selection was outstanding and the evening bonfires under the stars was really something special. Kilima have some rare game which you unlikely to see anywhere else such as Sable, Golden Gnu etc. We also managed to pop into Kruger National Park where we had lunch and also spotted the Big 5. I'll be looking at returning in the near future. More...

We had such a great holiday, the memories we took back from South Africa is all about our time here at Kilima. ||||Perfect location, picturesque views with endless luxurious options topped up with first class treatment. ||||We met with Billy and Minette (New Management) that manage the reserve and lodge with a warm welcome, nothing is too much to ask and always seen around making sure every element is in place that adds to a true international standard.||||We were nervous taking our little one into the wild however we always felt that our safety comes first. ||||At every mealtime we were sat at a perfectly placed table with nothing but views of wildlife and the sound of nothing but what nature has to offer and our cuttlery dicing through perfectly prepared food deliciously presented to a michelin standard.||||We will be back again!!||||Thank you for the unforgettable experience.||||The Bednarz Family.||——————————- More...

Our family went away for the Easter weekend and were looking for something exciting and different to experience and our expectations at Kilima Private Game Reserve were exceeded. ||Billy & Minette who are the new Management couple at Kilima, come with years of experience and were most welcoming during our stay. The lodge has had a complete refurb and the setting and style is fabulous … rooms are spacious and equipped with air conditioning, fans, heated towel rails, high ceilings, cotton bathrobes, slippers, extra king size beds with exquisite cotton linen, duvets and gorgeous throws. A lovely veranda looks into the garden, swimming pool and restaurant area, as well as a section where game can be seen. There is a spa on the premises and we were spoilt with a 30 minute back and neck couples massage – thank you Ruth & Elizabeth.||The game drives were most interesting as you traverse into a Breeding Farm & Rehabilitation centre and we were privileged to see Duke – the legendary Sable. We then moved on and encountered Buffolo’s. Rowan, black impala and golden Gnu which was an absolute first for me and what a treat! ||Our sundowners on our first afternoon was on the Lovers Deck with a view that was absolutely breathtaking. Billy had secretly arranged for some G&T’s, delicious freshly baked bread, topped with humus and Parma ham which was followed by some spa therapy on this amazing deck - WOW! WOW! WOW!||Meals at Kilima are outstanding and when Billy explains his dishes your mouth starts watering and expectations are always exceeded. He prepares 4-course menu s and each one is a tantalising experience. He also finds the most amazing settings which his teams set up secretly and before you know it, you having dinner under the stars in another incredible setting and once again you are, WOW’ed!! The team at Kilima go over and beyond and was a pleasure to see the enthusiasm and dedication that they bring to each guest. ||The beauty of Kilima is that you have the choice of relaxing around the pool reading a book, going on an Exotic game drive, walk to the ruins or spoiling yourself with some spa treatments. Alternatively you can travel outside of Kilima in the direction of Gravelotte where we visited one of the largest African Baobab trees with a broad trunk that can reach over 15m in diameter and estimated at over 2000 years old. It was used as a bar for gold miners back in the day – definitely well worth visiting! And a few minutes down the road, is what is thought to be the the smallest city in the world … Ghost City of Leydsdorp, not for the faint-hearted. Great to combine Kilima with Kruger or Sabi Sand.||We will most certainly be back and we thank Billy, Minette and their teams on making this a most memorable stay for our family. We can't wait to come back!|| More...

We received a warm welcome on arrival and was impressed with the neat and well maintained lodge. All the staff members were extremely friendly and helpful throughout the weekend. Complimentary Old Brown Sherry put a special touch to the stylish decorated room and stunning bathroom. I must mention that this is not the typical bush experience but rather a beautiful lodge on a game breeding farm. The evening menu was a bit disappointing and the food very average, The game drive was also not what was expected and should be called something else as it is only a drive through the breeding camps. My wife and I travelled through the mountainous and beautiful Magoebaskloof area to reach the Game Reserve before six o'clock in the evening, for we had been warned that gates would be closed at that time. Our GPS failed to guide us further than the town of Tzaneen and I phoned them. A lady (Elizabeth) told us to look for the Mulati camp sign, which we struggled to locate. From the main road from Tzaneen to Letsitele there is no sign stating "Kilima." We were relieved when a driver of a van offered to lead us to the gate of the Game Reserve on a gravel road of about 2km. The welcome was good, although we found that we were in the company of only four other couples for the whole weekend. The whole place is situated inside the bush but is clean outside with a swimming pool and lots of sitting places under the thatched roof, well decorated with stuffed animals, including a male lion right outside the reception area and the place generally makes one feel very relaxed immediately upon arrival. The rooms are spacious with the bed surrounded by nets, although we did not have a need to use the nets during our stay. Even the bathroom is spacious. What stood out for me was the lounge/ library (which was never locked even during the night) with stuffed animals on the walls and a television screen. It was, however, disgusting to discover that the management had e-mailed me the day before my arrival (which e-mail I had not seen), stating that only food purchased from their restaurant was to be consumed on their premises and further that anyone found consuming their own alcohol on their premises would have the alcohol confiscated and only given back upon departure! I think that was very lousy of management and that it would do them a lot of good to retract such threats. The breakfast on both days did not contain any cereal and we had to order before the chef could tell us whether the stuff was available or not. I noticed a table tennis set and snooker table next to the reception area but did not play. I also did not go for the game drive because I was told that among the big five they only have the buffalo. Generally the staff is very friendly and we found a couple of guys washing all the guests' motor vehicles after we had checked out. All in all I still wish I could go back for the relaxing atmosphere away from all the noise. More...

My fiance and I just spend the weekend at Kilima. The rooms are amazing. Very big bed with an awesome shower and bath. The food was exceptional for such a small reserve. Muffins, croissants and dinner rolls straight from the oven. The fine dining menu is the way to go. Limited options but great value for money and well presented with good portion sizes. Not a lot of animals but the watering hole overlooks the area where you eat so we were pleasantly surprised to see buffalo, warthog, zebra and waterbuck within 50m of us. There are very few rooms so not many people. If you expecting a vibe you will be dissapointed. Its a place for pure relaxation. The staff and service is outstanding More...

We spent 3 lovely nights at Kilima in August 2014. We were greeted by very friendly staff (Jessica and her team) - the whole way they checked our travel progress and safety and upon arrival we got a small Women's day gift- which I though was a very nice touch. ||||The rooms were absolutely stunning - the bathroom had a bathtub that one just wants to sink into and stay there. We lounged by the pool daily- the staff were always on hand if we needed something. The game drive was like no other- our guide Bheki taught us a lot about animals we didn't know. it wasn't just a "oh look a giraffe type of game drive"- he told us facts about animals that made it educational as well. Which we thought was different and great. ||||The Spa- so lush! ||||We were the only 3 guests on the one day but not once did we feel like we got less attention or any lower standard service!||||Thank you so much Kilima!!
