A really special and stunning resort. We loved the adults-only, salt water infinity pool with the edge looking over the spectacular Pete Dye designed golf course. Our room was lovely, comfortable and large. The service was outstanding, as one would expect from a place such as this. Dinner at Fossett's was disappointing--including under seasoned and overcooked meat--but that won't lower the overall score because it was really a wonderful visit. More...

As to golf, the Pete Dye redo is fantastic.  The greens were tricky bit rolled well and in wonderful shape for a year old.  Can't say the same for the fairways.  Although not horrible their just "new" and about a year away from being perfect I am sure. Keswick Hall was a wonderful and absolutely stunning place to host a wedding. My only critique would be that there were some issues with the resort's hotel reservations systems. At several points in the months leading up to our wedding, I identified errors in their bookings and reservation management and this was frustrating and concerning. That said, the issues were all resolved and the wedding weekend went smoothly. The wedding coordinator there was a tremendous help, always gracious and accommodating. The team collected for our big weekend really executed too. It felt five star from our arrival to our departure. And the food was excellent whether for the bridesmaids' brunch or for the reception. From the outdoor barre class for the bridesmaids set up on the resort's croquet field, to the on-site groomsmen's golf, to the enchanting and intimate feel of having all 48 guest rooms rented out by friends and family, to the gorgeous poolside cocktail reception and on to the beautiful ceremony and tent locations, Keswick delivered a one-of-a-kind wedding setting and experience. I haven't stayed at Keswick overnight, although it's on my "must-dos", but I recently visited for an afternoon. I knew this place was gorgeous from the get-go (it's a sister property of The Jefferson, after all), but I was floored by how amazing it is in person. In my book, this is definitely a special occasion destination, and one that I happen to think would be totally worth it for an anniversary or special celebration. There are a bunch of these cozy-type hotels near Charlottesville, and I was looking forward to staying here. The welcome arrival was friendly and professional, and the lobby is grand in an understated way. As this is a relatively old building, It's been renovated very nicely. It's not some big resort like the Greenbrier, and I liked that about it.Our room was a bit smaller than I would've liked, but they have to work with what they're given. The alcove and minibar was somewhat of a waste of the space, but it's not like you sit in your room all day. The bathroom was large, that's for sure. Keswick Hall had me at hello, but it wasn't until my wedding day that I realized how truly magical this place is. When we were deciding on venues it was between Keswick Hall, The Homestead, and Greenbrier. Of the 3, Keswick had something the others didn't...Adam Donovan-Groves. Adam is the Keswick Hall wedding coordinator and is not only one of the most amazing professionals you could dream to work with, but he's also an amazing human being who dedicates his life to making others happy on the biggest day of their lives. It's not just a job for him--it's a mission. On your wedding day (and before) Adam is 100% dedicated to making everything go perfectly and is your right hand man. From day one when I asked Adam about prices and he sent me a spreadsheet with all prices, taxes, and tips included so that there would be no surprises on the back end, everything was perfect.

On my wedding day I had a terrible incident with my dress. When my bridesmaids tried to zip it up, they realized that the belt that was sewn in was 2 sizes too small and my dress did not fit. After 30 minutes of trying to get the dress to fit and deciding to cut the belt off, someone went to get Adam, and he was there within minutes, sewing kit in hand. Adam fixed my dress in minutes and didn't leave my side all day. He was so incredible to me, that it's hard to find the words to write my appreciation.

Everything at Keswick was amazing, the service is incredible, the food was delicious, and the venue was absolute perfection. I cannot say enough about how incredible Keswick was and it was worth every penny (and it was a lot of pennies). If your wedding day is important to you I cannot imagine a more perfect place than Keswick Hall or a more perfect coordinator than Adam. Thank you for everything that you did for me!

Recently stayed here for 1 night to celebrate my husband's birthday. Even though we went during the off season, we were ready for a fun splurge! Summary: this is a beautiful hotel, but it was slightly lacking in quality of service. I'd give the overall experience 3.5 stars.Location: beautiful hotel, peaceful location! Lots of rooms to poke around in, a fun place to explore. Room: We had the smallest kind of room (Superior) but I loved it! It was beautiful, comfy bed, huge tub, lots of snacks, great turn down service.TV in Room: terrible! We didn't get HBO, even though it was advertised. And several basic channels were dark & blurry, and no amount of adjusting the TV changed that. Location of Room: Not great. I was prepared for that, because again we were staying in the smallest room. But we were on the 2nd floor, right near the stairs, and we could hear every single person talking in the billiards room downstairs. I was awakened before 8:00am by people playing pool. Not awesome.Bar: Really cozy, fireplace, with a superb bartender. He was friendly and helpful, even when we ordered off-menu, non-standard drinks.Restaurant: We ate dinner at Fossetts, which was pretty good but not amazing (I wrote a separate review on Fossett's yelp page). Service: Everyone was polite and friendly, but I was disappointed. I had written to the staff weeks prior to our visit to inform them it was my husband's birthday, and I even ordered lots of extras for the room. But in our entire stay  none of the staff said anything about his birthday, there was no note of it in our hand-written welcome card, and I had to remind the waiters at the restaurant that it was his birthday. I mean, this is a small detail overall. But if I'm paying $600 plus for a hotel stay (including room, drinks, and meals), I expect a little more attention to detail from the staff.Overall it was a relaxing, nice weekend. It was a HOLIDAY WEEKEND [rainy 3 days, to add to the fun]  Oh, and, my 46 TH birthday weekend. This is a wonderful property; the employees are amazing, and well versed The below is only the view I gave the management team.  Their response is why I give them a 5, oh yea, and,  the birthday present they sent to my room. You can clearly see how many couples were there for the weekend, many were having massages.  There are ways to create interaction, and a fun experience. Minnie 9 hole tournament for couples, round robin tennis, even create winery outings. If you have similar events, we were never informed. It seemed that guests could not play in the member golf outing; there should be a slight inclusion in this process. Just because we don't have a membership, guess what? This would help sell those memberships. That inclusion might have swayed us to move our Farmington Membership to Keswick.  Finally, your event team needs to work harder with managing the wedding guests; keep them away from the other patrons which are repeat. They  might be a one hit wonder, and may never come again. (the younger wild kids, of course) Calling customers and upgrading them or enticing them with special incentives, especially if they have been coming for years and have a special room, treat them as such.  Here are my final thoughts; Sales, Golf, Tennis, Spa, Dining, and Event Planning do not work together to create a cohesive experience. While the property is a nice throw back in time, and Mr. Goodwin is working to create change, there needs to be teamwork. This does not mean that the employees aren't pleasant, they are amazing.  However, your guest's "BRAND" experience needs to be your number 1 priority. Trying to sell me on other properties at the end of a survey email is an after thought. The front-desk should include this in a nice piece of informative collateral from the beginning, guests have downtime and it's the perfect space for soft selling. All of Bill Goodwin's properties have tasteful elegance, remember that, because The Greenbrier is losing it and The Homestead is falling apart. More...
