Karen is so lovely, she’s bubbly and chatty and made me feel really at ease when having my pictures taken - something that can make you feel very self-conscious! There were so many great shots to choose from to tell my business story and now I have 20 stock images to help promote and sell my services! Thanks Karen for making the whole process enjoyable. Karen was amazing, from start to finish!!! She listened to me, asked me about not just my business but about myself too and she was able to reassure me about any of my concerns. I do not enjoy being in front of the camera and the thought of using images of myself for social media is terrifying but with Karen's great eye for a picture, her patience and her energy, I am excited to start telling my business story. Thank you Karen for your patience, empathy and for all the fun I had with you throughout the process! More...

What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
I've found the best photographs come when people are relaxed and able to be themselves. Photos should spark a memory and start a conversation. And the best way to do that is to be yourself in a place you love to be.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
For family clients, I always start with what do you love about your life right now? For my business clients, we start with what do you want your clients to know about you?
What do you love most about your job?
Meeting people and hearing their stories. I love absolutely love learning how we all live differently. And this always leads to beautiful photographs to capture these stories.
What inspired you to start your own business?
My love affair with photography led to a career in photojournalism. I taught both writing and photography for ten years but when our family moved to the UK from the States, I realised I needed to get back into the fray and back behind the lens. And so I created Karen Barrett Photography.
Why should our clients choose you?
I don't want to create the same images for every client. So if you are looking for someone to capture your story in a way that is unique to you, then I'm your photographer.
Family Photography
I specialise in storytelling family photography. We’ll plan a session where you do the things you love to do with the people you love. It’s relaxed and totally unforced. I’ll take hundreds of photos and curate a selection that truly represent you as a family and then put them together in an album that will last a lifetime.
Business Photography
I work with you to highlight what is unique about your business so that your customers want to buy from you. I’ll be honest, the journalist in me loves finding out about what makes your business tick. The photographer in me loves capturing the images that deliver that message.
