I recently attended the Fall Art Preview with my nephew, Elijah, who is visiting Dallas for the summer. Although I have enjoyed events in the past, this was the first time Elijah had seen the space. The staff and attendees treated him like an adult, and he was completely enthralled by the South African art that was carefully curated and presented. I am so happy that I was able to show him parts of another culture he wouldn’t have seen at most other galleries or showrooms. We can’t wait to come back. More...

Kanju is one of the most beautiful showrooms in Dallas and the fact that they sell contemporary African art is a major plus! Meg Bartos is the owner and she had traveled all over Africa and she is very knowledgeable not just about the different countries she has visited, but also about the art of the artists featured in her gallery! Beautiful art, furniture, and housewares that are truly unique. The art in particular covers a wide range of styles and media, and artists from many different parts of the African continent.
Everything from internationally acclaimed sculptors to little-known painters. Particularly worth swinging by in the next few weeks to see the art show that is currently on display, but the furniture and interior goods are also fantastic and follow a similar mold of beauty, uniqueness, and broad range of styles. The owner told us she believes contemporary art and design in Africa are leading the world right now, and from what I saw at Kanju that is true both in terms of beauty and innovation.
Dallas is lucky to have a place like this.

I can’t get over the stunning ceramics by Andile Dyalvane that I had the pleasure to see last night at Kanju’s art fall preview! It was so wonderful to learn about the process of creating them from the owner, who has seen it firsthand and maintains a friendship with the artist. The event was put together as thoughtfully as the showroom and I can’t wait till I have a space large enough for one of the stunning light fixtures they carry.
