About

I am a licensed psychologist and psychoanalyst practicing. I offer short- and long-term therapy for children, adults and seniors, working through patterns that prevent them from growing and reaching their full potential. I help individuals with long-term personality issues and those dealing with bipolar disorder, guilt and shame related issues, depression, anxiety, and psychotic thought processes.

I have been truly blessed to work with Kaneeza. I am grateful to have found her. She has been an instrumental part of my growth over the last few years. She has amazing experience and insight and is skilled at what she does. She instinctively knows when I need to be heard and supported, but also when to push me to dig deeper. I feel safe working with her and have made more progress in areas I have needed to grow in, then I could have imagined. I highly recommend her to anyone wanting to work hard with someone who works equally hard by your side. More...

What a friendly, warm and helpful person! I placed a call to Kaneeza LaFir just to ask a few questions and she went out of her way to help me find someone in my area that can help me. She checked back with me several times to see that I found what I needed. You can tell she is a very caring and thoughtful individual that truly likes to help people. I wish I lived close enough to use her services! More...

Personable, caring and skilled. She is very perceptive and caring at the same time; which makes the time very helpful. I trust her a lot and would recommend her entirely! It's hard to find someone good that you connect with and that you trust - she has been there for me and my family. More...

Q&As

In my years of experience as a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst, I have found that each client comes with a unique set of experiences. Keeping this in mind, I love joining my client on their journey of understanding and exploration. I have expertise in working with many different cultures and ethnic backgrounds, personality issues, bipolar disorder, guilt and shame, trauma, depression, anxiety and psychotic thought processes. I have extensive training in psychoeducational evaluations and assessments of children and adults. I work with individuals, couples and families. I love being able to assist my clients in exploring how their interpersonal relationships have impacted their emotional development, as well as how their previous relational experiences are affecting their current relationships.

As a graduate student, and working under the license of other psychologists, I soon came to appreciate the value and constraints of working for someone, and for myself. I believe there is more flexibility and latitude in serving people as the owner of the business as opposed to being an employee.

Being the owner of a counseling business/psychological practice means that I can provide quality services to match the specific and individual needs of my clients. It truly makes my relationship with clients a partnership between the two of us, a journey towards healing and self-discovery that we take together.

Clients should choose me because I base my approach to therapy on the idea of openness. It may seem simplistic, but being open and honest can be one of the hardest things to do in the day-to-day of your life. In a therapy session, learning how to be open about hurts and frustrations is going to happen. Once the feelings all come tumbling out, the next step will be learning to negotiate those feelings: learning how to express them constructively, learning how to deal with the feelings when they happen, and listening to others’ feelings when they have them. I can be a partner with your clients through each and every one of these steps, helping them reach their lifelong goals while appropriately and compassionately assisting them to become more open emotionally in their personal lives.

Services

Psychological assessments: personality, cognitive, and neuropsychological assessments to help arrive at hypotheses about a client’s behavior, personality and capabilities. Based on assessment results, I can develop and apply effective therapeutic treatment plans and interventions.

I am currently supervising doctoral-level students in Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapist trainees and interns. I also have licensed therapists who consult with me on a regular basis.
