Chef Andy, Khara, and his associates are a professional group that delivers what they say they'll deliver! They catered our Luau for Ikuna Koa Outrigger Canoe Club and it was great! Highly recommend them.

Kalei's Kitchenette catered the food for my mother's 80th birthday party. Khara was extremely helpful and professional. I sent her a message though Yelp. After a phone consultation, she sent me 2 menus to share with my family. We made a couple of revisions (doubled the lumpia order since there is never enough!) and the menu was set. Khara emailed me 4 days before the event to let me know everything was going as planned. They arrived an hour before the party to set up and Chef Andy served the food. The food was AMAZING! Lumpia, Kalua pork, Huli Huli chicken and Crab Salmon Dynamite were all delicious. The spread was beautiful...they even made a sign honoring my mother's birthday. I had Kalei's Kitchenette provide the food for my department's company luncheon.Khara was very helpful with helping me plan a menu for my team while keeping our budget in mind. We paid in advance via PayPal. Communication and service were excellent! I can't express how easy it was coordinating this order despite the short notice.They can do delivery with onsite server too, but we decided to pick up the food. Chef Andy greeted us at the store front when we got there - it's the Filipino restaurant. He was very kind and we had a great conversation with him. Being originally from Hawaii, he knew how to get the flavors right! We ended up getting Huli Huli Chicken, Beef Teriyaki, Eggplant Tofu (for the vegetarians) as well as green salad, pickled cucumber salad, rice, and lumpia for appetizers and sides for 30-35 people. It was just enough food. My team ate everything because it was very tasty! No leftovers here.Not sure if they do more of the American Hawaiian sides like spam musibi and Mac salad - you'd have to ask. More...

I celebrated my 40th birthday last month with 50 people and last minute I had an emergency and a lot of things going on so the 2 days before my party I called kalei's Kitchenette and just tried to see if they can accommodate me, and they did! !! Not only that my guests love all the food!! I would definitely recommend it to anybody. The experience was super great! Food is quality! Try them and I bet you, you will be happy customer like me! I worked with Khara on setting the menu for my dad's 80th birthday. The planning was very collaborative - keeping costs, quantity and quality in mind. They were on-time and helpful. The on-site help (Allan Reyes) was awesome. He kept the food filled, area clean but also extremely helpful with getting the guests what they needed. Used Kalei's Kitchenette to cater a work event. From beginning to end, the service and food were amazing! They were really responsive to all the changes I had to make throughout our short planning period, and to meeting the many dietary needs of my guests. The food was plenty, and very tasty! Found Kalei's Kitchenette through a friend - and had to check them out at the Otay Ranch Farmers market and I automatically fell for their chicken wings! Really crunchy on the outside and amazingly soft in the inside. To top it off, they have all kinds of unique sauces. My favorite sauce is the guava barbecue and Thai coconut curry! They also cater! We chose Kalei's Kitchenette to cater our Christmas party for 70 people this past weekend and we are so glad we did! I found them on yelp and saw that with only 2 reviews they are still a very young company. I took a chance and asked for a quote from them. The first thing that impressed me was their prompt and thorough communication. Khara spoke with me over the phone to find out what we were looking for and then tailored several menus to fit our needs and budget. Then I was able to try some of their items at a farmer's market in downtown SD and I was blown away by the flavors! We decided right then to choose them as our caterers. We decided on the crispy chicken wings, pork tonkatsu, kalbi ribs, and Hawaiian spare ribs. Honestly I don't think we could have made a wrong choice because it was all so delicious. They arrived promptly on party day to set up and the whole process was very seamless. Our guests raved about the food and we passed out several of their business cards. I was looking for a caterer for my son's baptism and ran into Kalei's... I contacted them via FB messenger. I spoke to Khara and she asked for the estimate number of guests, my preferences, etc, then they sent me a quote and recommended menus. Later, I met with both couple Khara and Andy to discuss it further. Without hesitation, I trusted them. I didn't even get the chance to sample the menu because of the tight schedule. But I believed in them and in their sincerity. The chef, Andy, used to work in 5-star hotels &, no doubt, I believed in his craft. At first I was nervous, not only that it is my first time to deal with catering but also at the amount of anticipated guests I would have & because I haven't seen or tasted the menu or what it looks like being displayed. But to cut it short, the guests truly loved the food, most especially the wings, huli huli chicken,teriyaki beef, crab salmon dynamite, pork tonkatsu! They also have the best sauce for the wings (guava, bbq, kalei's tantrum, & curry!). I did not just find a caterer, but I found a really good one with a different feel, not-your-ordinary menu! Their crispy chicken wings are my favorite! Light and crispy on the outside, and the meat is moist and tender. They're great plain, but kick it up a notch with their selection of sauces! The "gochujang" and "Kalei's tantrum" are my personal favorites, but if spicy isn't up your alley, their "guava BBQ" is a show stopper as well. More...
