What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
The biggest secret is understanding the clients needs. Once I have been set a detailed brief by the client my job becomes ten times easier. There are some other key points as well, such as understanding ones equipment and being as prepared as possible but it always comes down to the old saying... If my client's happy, I'm happy!
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
I have a checklist of questions that I'll ask, and after the basic ones (like when, where and how much) it's often important to get to know one another as much as possible prior to starting the project. For example it's always nice to know if a client has had any previous experience with photography - in front of or behind the camera. I also believe in being as prepared as possible when I turn up to a shoot, so I'll always aim to find out as many of the logistics as I can - these can be anything from parking arrangements to how much post production and retouching is necessary (if at all).
What do you love most about your job?
I entered photography because I enjoy the blend of creativity and technical ability. I had always appreciated art and technology as separate marvels, but when I discovered that they can merge into one I was hooked. From composing the perfect image on location to post processing it with my own style afterwards, I love it all.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I have been self employed for 8 years and I enjoy being able to take control of my working environment. I also love being thrown in at the deep end and overcoming obstacles so running my own business comes naturally to me.
