Having been a handyman and maker for years I wanted to go beyond the basics and learn some more in-depth fine-woodworking skills, so based on the (bench hook) video on John's website I called him for a chat and took the plunge to book the 8 week beginner day course, which has meant travelling an hour and a half each way from Lincolnshire. I've stayed on for the intermediate course and when time and finances allow I'll be back for more training. The travelling is nothing for the gains I've made in Pleasley Vale; the Value for money/return on my educational investment.John and his staff are absolutely lovely and you are welcomed and settled in whatever your skill level, I have learned masses of new techniques and skills and my confidence has shot up. Attendees in my course group were of different ages, from all kinds of backgrounds and 25% of my group were female, I comment on this as I'd love my young daughter to attend a class in a couple of years, It's a level playing field!Summary: John is a rare human, a true Gentle-man, he has time and patients for all my daft questions and re-explaining techniques to me.even as (due to some unavoidable absence) my fellow students tore ahead on their own projects I never felt like a pain!John and Gail's team; Sue and Jake are ambassadors for the school, again super-knowledgeable, helpful and understanding. Did I forget the bottomless filter coffee? ;) More...
