I cannot fault these guys, I needed my IDrive rebooting on my series 1, I rang a few places and just got the usual negativity and it could cost me a fortune. I spoke to these guys and they diagnosed it over the phone and seemed to know exactly what was wrong with it. I was expecting a much larger bill and was amazed that they were loads cheaper than the others. I would recommend them as BMW specialists to anyone. If I need a repair again I would certainly ring them first. It was quite far for me to travel but all I can say they are well worth it. Thanks once again guys More...

I was recommended this garage and as usual I looked at the reviews first. Albeit they are somewhat varied, I decided to go with my instinct. My only issue was I was quoted one price, but the 'VAT' was not mentioned so an additional cost (but that could have been me).The good bits:- These far out-weigh a VAT charge.My first impression:- The guys know what they are talking about and that turned out to be a correct impression so I took the car over.The workshop - yes busy but spotlessly clean (and having had the honour and privilege to worked alongside some major car manufacturers, all of who pride themselves on cleanliness), that meant a lot to me.The repair - my car has 164k on the clock, when it came out, it now drives like a car with just 164 miles on clock. I don't know if anything extra was done, tbh I don't care but the car is now a dream to drive again. The comms was great, I knew exactly when the car would be released back to me.These guys know their cars, do not be put of by the location, do not be put off by the straight talking (they were not rude or anything like that, just said it how it was!). I went to Jo Darby as a friend recommended them, for my E46 BMW Convertible.
Good points:
-Friendly staff, far more approachable than BMW
-Flexible with loan vehicles and drop off/pickup times
Bad Points:
-Poor communication - your constantly juggling between a few mobile phone numbers of staff who rarely get back to you if at all.
-loan vehicle had a dodgy handbrake
-I asked for locks to be changed on one visit and they just gave me a key that didn’t work properly and charged me £50 for it.
-miss diagnosis of the problem with my vehicle, basically changing part after part on my car at my expense, eventually they decided it was the head gasket. When they installed the new one I still had issues with the coolant, took it back in and they replaced a few parts (to be fair they did not charge me for the labour this time), however it still was not 100%.
I have now traded the car in for a new one, I was fed up with going back and forth to jo Darby, being charged lots of money with a poor standard of work being done.
Having spoken with a few mechanic friends they believe it was miss diagnosed in the first place, a simple test could have been done to find out if there was a head gasket issue which could have saved me money which clearly wasn’t done. It’s also likely they got a cheap head gasket from euro parts and not an official BMW one which is potentially why the car isn’t 100%, and it’s unlikely that they skimmed it, despite telling me on the phone it was being sent off to be done.
It’s possible I caught them at a bad/busy time, however, I will not be going back and certainly will not be recommending any friends to go there.
Spare yourself the time and money.

I have serious trust issues about where I leave my car (because it’s an M5) this is not the case with this garage. I know from the moment I leave my car is in safe hands. The staff are always friendly and ready to help and they have a wide range of knowledge from classic to present cars. Pleasure to deal with Nicola was a very nice lady that phoned me back to keep me informed and Jo came to my house to sort the issue that i was having with my BMW 118D which had the steering wheel lock issue so i couldn't move the car! He did not fob me off with a load of rubbish he knows exactly what he is talking about and was just genuinely intrested in getting me back on the road...Which he did in no time! Great service and they really know their stuff! Jo fixed a along term annoying problem on my e92 that other specialists mis-diagnosed. Definitely recommended!Back again with a/c pump bearing failure, diagnosed and replaced quickly but faulty (new!!!) parts meant it had to go back twice. At no extra cost from Jo over the original quote and no quibbles at all on the issue, I finally left with a main dealer part fitted and my car sounding better than ever.
