About

As a commercial photographer I receive commissions for editorial content for print and online publications. This includes fashion photography, portraiture and producing imagery for features in lifestyle magazines.

I help to create visual identities for brands and businesses, which usually means me taking portraits of the people behind a company, alongside producing creative imagery of their products and services for use in print, online and across their social media platforms.

Q&As

Aside form the technical know how for me it's about the research. Researching your subject often helps, or it could be as simple as an informal chat beforehand if you're shooting someone to find out a little bit about them. What kind of image are they after, what is the intended purpose of that image? Try to discover what their expectations are, deliver, then try to exceed them. I always try to find a little common ground with my subject, build a little rapport, especially if they are not used to being photographed. That way they will be more relaxed and this will have a positive impact on the images.

Is there a brief to work to, would you like me to suggest some ideas and guide the project or a mixture of the two?

What is the time frame to deliver your project?

Where would you like the shoot to take place, in studio, on location, your premises?

How many final images do you require?

Are the images for web, print or both?

Aside from the included colour grade would you like any of the images retouched further?

What is your budget?

Travelling has been a large part of my job over the years but what I really enjoy is meeting people from all sorts of professions. My work has given me access into the worlds of politics, science, mining, opera, ballet, fashion and film, where I have met some fascinating individuals and witnessed some incredible scenes. The people I have photographed are often at the top of their game, or specialists in some form, which always inspires me to challenge myself creatively.

The freedom to make my own path and to choose which clients I would like to work with.

As well as my years of experience behind the lens I've been told that I'm very easy to work with, an affable person who is a good listener. No matter the size of each project I always strive to clearly interpret the clients needs, then deliver the best results possible. If a client is creatively unsure of the direction of their shoot I will pitch in with ideas to try and steer them towards a solution.

I'm available every step of the way, from the initial meeting to discuss the project brief right through to the final post production process.

I have access to small and large studio spaces at Ocean Studios in Plymouth where I am a resident, but am equally comfortable to travel to other studios across the UK if that better suits a client. I am no stranger to working on location or at a client's company HQ.
