We had a great time. Our hosts Things to keep in mind. It is far away from tourist areas, which was a plus for us, but may be a negative for others. it is an old house,so when there are others in the house, the noise carries. If you are wanting to be up all night, go somewhere else. More...

My husband and I stayed at the Whitford house in early June and enjoyed our time there so much that we returned in September. The peace and the views from the guest house on the 40 acre Nottonson property are lovely. The king size bed is so comfortable. Local eateries are excellent. A satisfying breakfast to start the day with in the farm house and Jeff's knowledge and company are a plus. You will not be disappointed! More...

Jeff is a great host who worked hard to ensure that our needs were met. ||||Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area is one of the top birdwatching hotspots in New England. Lodging in this part of VT is a little tough to come by, and this place turned out to be an absolute gem! We spent three nights in the guest house, which was both modern and rustic, and beautifully decorated. The property itself is stunning, with lots of open fields, a couple of horses, and plenty of wildlife to observe. Jeffrey was a wonderful host, providing a delicious breakfast every morning, and offering great recommendations for things to do and see in the area (he told us we had to have dinner at The Arcadian restaurant in Middlebury, and it was AMAZING!). The location itself is about 20 minutes outside Middlebury, and about 40 minutes outside Burlington. Considering how rural the area is, I felt like this was pretty convenient since VT is fairly spread out. We don't get to VT very often, but I would definitely stay at Whitford House again if the opportunity presents itself! More...

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in July. Jeff took such good care of us during our stay and there was nothing we lacked. The house is perfect for 2 with plenty of room and the views, from all the windows, were breathtaking. We sat on the terrace every morning for coffee and every evening for the beautiful sunset. It was so quiet and serene. There is an A/C in the bedroom, if you need it, but the breeze from all the open windows was perfect. We even had a chipmunk visit us on the porch. Cute towns nearby for dining options. More...

I visited Vermont with my wife and toddler and ran into this bed and breakfast on Orbitz and it did not have many reviews - I took a chance and booked it and it was a great choice in the end. The main guest house is a 1 bedroom, 1 bath and semi-functional kitchen is spacious. The Inn keeper Jeff and his wife Mary Jane are fantastic hosts - the breakfast in the morning consisted of organic yoghurt, delicious organic steel cut oats and OJ with local honey. They guided us about where to spend our day. The guest house is very well kept, neat and the linens and bathroom essentials are of a high quality (Vermont soap company). The night sky is brilliant for star gazing if the sky is clear and the view of the mountains is great. There is no TV in the guest room which was fine by us as we did not want to watch any TV. Our trip started off a little rocky since Orbitz has the wrong address listed for the Whitford B&B. However, when we called Jeff he was helpful in guiding us to the correct location and understanding of our tardiness for check in. The farmhouse itself is fantastic; Jeff explained some of the history behind the farmhouse and his future plans for the property. Breakfast was all organic products and I thoughouly enjoyed the steel cut oats with added fresh vermont maple syrup. Jeff and his wife, were great hosts proving all we could ask for, with top quality vermont products. It was a lovely weekend, that went by too quickly! This place is a little slice of heaven. Beautiful house and carriage house, beautiful location and scenery. We stayed in the carriage house. It was so clean and lovely with windows all around. Sweet gardens and mountain views. The bed is super comfortable and the host goes out of his way to accommodate. Loved listening to old time records on the vintage stereo system. Both the little city of Vergennes and Middlebury are nearby. We had great meals at the local restaurants in both towns. We hope to go back again over the next few years while our son is at UVM. Like Marcel Proust's Madeline's evoked a memory in him, Whitford House Inn stays with you.for a long while. We stayed here in 2002 and I loved it so much that we returned to stay a few days this year. I would come here more often if not for the distance! First of all, the home itself is charming. It boasts a wrap around porch which invites one to a quiet sit or a fabulous afternoon wine with appetizers with the lovely innkeeper Barbara. The rooms are charming, clean and comfortable. No TVs here! If one were to look up hostess in the dictionary, Barbara Carson's name would be at the top. With graciousness and kindness, she invites you to a wonderful stay in her beautiful country home. She offers advice on the best places for just about everything in the vicinity. Her breakfasts are copious , delicious and a feast for the eyes and belly! The resident pet, Smiley ( a gregarious kitty) even graced us with his presence by napping with us in our room! If you like peace, quiet and are a foodie then this is the place for you! ( I am also not going to wait so long in between our visits!!!) More...

We have been visiting the Whitford House off and on for twenty years. Way back when, there was no room at the Middlebury Inn and we found the Whitford House just by luck. And it was an incredible piece of luck. Staying there is like being at home -- only your home is perfectly decorated, there is always a fire to site beside, and you are graciously provided for at every turn. The most comfortable beds in the world, anything you could possible want for breakfast and all delicious, The best part, of course, is Barbara Carson, the innkeeper - elegant, interesting, warm, friendly, helpful, but never intrusive. If you truly need to get away from it all, the is the ultimate place to relax. More...

We just stayed for one night at Whitford House on a bike trip through NY and VT. Whitford House was outstanding!! We stayed in the Master Suite, which was super roomy, lots of windows and light, room for sitting and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom, with both a tub and nice shower, was also excellent.||||But the best part of the stay is how Barbara makes you feel so at home and well fed. When we arrived, we sat on the deck looking out over the back yard and VT countryside, while Barbara offered us fresh lemonade, homemade almond cookies and tiny gingersnaps. After a shower, we returned to the deck for wine, fresh hummus and pita, and crackers and delicious VT cheese with grapes. ||||In the morning, the breakfast was one of the best ever, with homemade granola, yogurt, fruit, sausages, freshly baked cinnamon cake, and creme brulee french toast, which was divine. We were sad to depart, but would surely return at a moment's notice. The other guests felt the same way. More...

The bed and breakfast is a two-bedroom 1790 farmhouse that has been restored with integrity. There are wide floorboards, old barnboard and older furniture. We were met with an offer of wine, beer or water -- too bad I was going for a run. Though only two of us were guests, breakfast could have fed six easily -- omelettes, bacon, home made granola, yogurt, fruit..... The house is among dairy farms 20 minutes from the college. We stayed with Barbara for only one night - should have stayed longer! Barbara Carson and her staff are a delight! This Inn sits in beautiful countryside with green, lush views in every direction. The house is a wonderland of beautiful and interesting furniture, books, open fire places ... A welcoming and warm home. It really does feel like you are staying in a good friends home. Barbara is warm, intelligent and thoughtful. Not gushy, not solicitous, a true lady with great style and enthusiasm.||The breakfast was the best we experienced in the USA. My husband and I stayed at the Whitford the first part of May. Scott had not been to Vermont yet, and wanted to broaden his New England experience, since he is a Pueblo, CO man, born and raised. It was truly a delightful experience and the breakfast was unsurpassed. We really enjoy the fact that local inns and restaurants support their local farmers. It is all fresh! On our way to Quebec we had an overnight in Vermont and another on our return trip. Whitford House was an excellent place to break our trip. We had the south room traveling north and the north room on the return trip. Both ways, we enjoyed the exceptional hospitality of our hostess/owner, Barbara Carson, and her talented staff of helpers. Whitford House is on an unpaved country road in peacefull Vermont. If you arrive at night be sure to have detailed directions because there are no street lights and the markers are small and hard to find. We spent 3 nites at the Whitford Inn while visiting our daughter at Middlebury College. The innkeeper, Barbara Carson, is probably the MOST gracious person that I have ever met. Her service was as good as at any Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons. She made all of our dinner reservations , gave us excellent driving directions but what was most extraordinary was her generousity and passion for entertaining. We felt like guests visiting good friends at their beautiful country house. We had not been there for more then 10 minutes when she offered me wine and prepared a cocktail for my husband. Barbara then placed a well composed platter of fresh vegetables with a curry dip,a bowl of homemade mixed spiced nuts and warmed some freshly baked spanokopia for us to eat while relaxing by the fire.We enjoyed chatting with her while watching the sun go down over the Adirondacks.||Breakfast the next morning (all three mornings) was absolutely the very best that we have ever had at any Inn or B&B. Although this is a small inn there were 3 women preparing and serving us breakfast. There was homemade Granola, stewed prunes and apricots, baked apples with raisins, local yogurt ,fresh fruit platter, zucchini bread and then we were served Eggs Florentine with suasage( that was Day 1). Day 2 was bluberry pancakes, Day 3 we were served the lightest and fluffiest waffles(breakfast was always accompanied with a full table of other delights and breakfast meats and a tray with juices). Barbara invited my daughter to join us for hors d'heurves and breakfast everyday. The kitchen staff was as lovely and professional as at any top 4 star hotel.||Our room was cleaned while we were at breakfast, towels freshened twice each day. All of the towels and linens were of excellent quality and the bed was fabulous. The Inn is on a very quiet country road and so there is no road noise whatsoever. The grounds are lovely and the views incredible.||This was the first time that I have ever stayed at a B&B and actually felt comfortable using all of the public spaces. There were freshly baked cookies each evening which I enjoyed with a cup of tea. ||My husband and I are looking forward to staying at the Whitford House Inn as often as we can. We would not even consider looking elsewhere(nor should you)! More...
