I booked John as a jazz duo for my mums surprise 80th birthday party, I was looking for just some gentle background music for friends & family to listen to as they enjoyed their high tea & that is exactly what I got, it added to a great atmosphere and made the party. Very professional, sounded excellent, with lots of great feedback from the guests. Highly recommend, would not hesitate to hire these guys again. Thank you, you made the afternoon perfect. More...

We hired Noteworthy for a corporate summer drinks reception and they were the perfect condiment. Their jazz was not intrusive to conversations, it was gentle background music which provided a great atmosphere - just what we were after. Thanks John.

Noteworthy played as a trio at our wedding and were fantastic. Great selection of tracks tailored to our taste, played really well, and set the perfect mood. Exactly what we wanted. They even impressed all my jazz-loving friends. We had a slightly unusual format of the day involving moving location and they were exceptionally flexible and helpful. Great guys easy to work with and great jazz. Thanks! More...

I booked John as a Jazz duo with his fellow musician Rob for a Corporate Event in which our most senior executives were present. Their performance created the whole ambiance of the evening and captivated our guest’s right from the beginning to when our last guests left which was long after they were due to finish performing. John’s ability to read the target audience and deliver a mellow and memorable experience to all that attended was awe inspiring and the response from the guests was highly positive. His passion for his music speaks for itself and his professionalism and gentleman like demeanour meant it was an absolute pleasure to work with him. I would not think twice to book him and his fellow musicians for our future events and will be booking again very soon. More...

Book this Trio! John and his fellow musicians are fantastic. We had a wonderful birthday party for my husband - everyone thoroughly enjoyed their jazz repertoire - the sound level was perfect and they added sophistication and joy to a fabulous evening carrying on playing long after they were due to finish. Thank you John for coming to Gloucestershire and creating such a wonderful atmosphere. Sarah & Jeremy. More...

I was lucky enough to have John Martin and his quartet play at my wedding. John put us at ease with his humour and good nature and helped make a special day unforgettable. His album Dawning will always remind us of this time and these are musical memories we treasure. John's melodic jazz and recent ventures into multi-phonics mark him as a unique talent in the UK jazz scene. Five stars is insufficient! More...

I am an experienced, keen, amateur sax player and went to John for help with my tone and rhythmic playing. John is very patient and encouraging and gave me lots of advice to improve "my sound" which I am still working on. I would recommend John to all those who want an expert saxophone ear to listen to them and offer help. More...

Having picked up my saxophone again after 20 years barely touching it, I decided to take some lessons. In a couple of lessons John has opened up my sound by correcting my embouchure and I feel I have made really good progress in finding my way around the instrument again. More importantly the lessons have been relaxed and enjoyable. More...

John is an excellent teacher. I have been taking lessons with him for about three months and have improved faster than at any other time in my saxophone-playing life (over 10 years). His lessons are a breath of fresh air compared to learning out of method books, with a real focus on getting deep into a tune before broadening it out and applying it to other contexts. Also a great musician and composer in his own right- it was listening to his stuff that led me to him as a teacher. More...

Q&As

Playing great music with amazing musicians, traveling, meeting people, spreading warmth and good vibes. What's not to love?

After leaving school I decided to study music. It was never my intention to become a professional jazz musician but the more I learnt, the more my love and fascination grew. This lead to me studying Jazz and Composition at University. I’ve since played worldwide with many different bands, released several albums & done some innovative work which has extended the sonic scope of the saxophone. 20 years later I’m still learning and more inthralled then ever.

Many function bands seem to have forgotten the reason they originally started playing. I am a firm believers in bringing the same energy and creativity that you would expect to hear in a world class jazz club, but at a volume where people can easily talk and mingle. We love our job and want to contribute to making your event a very special and memorable occasion!!
