About

I am a UKCP and BACP registered psychotherapist and counsellor with almost 20 years of experience helping people overcome life's emotional challenges.

The people I see experience a range of concerns that have led them to seek therapy. Many people simply feel stuck in repetitive patterns.

How Attachment-Based Psychotherapy Can Help You

Attachment-based psychotherapy focusses on how our early relationships with our attachment figures - the key people in our lives - shape the way we interact with people into our adult years. As babes in arms we learn what to expect from our relationships based on what happens in our core and formative years. When those early relationships offer a sense of emotional security, we can learn to seek the same healthy expectations from relationships later on.
However, when there are difficulties and insecurities in our early attachment relationships, these too shape our style of relating so that in later adult life, we find ourselves repeating what can feel like a hopeless recreation of those same difficult early patterns.

Depression
anxiety &
substance misuse
are just some of the various "symptoms" that reflect our attempt to deal with the emotional challenges of what we call an "insecure attachment style".

An attachment-based therapy helps to focus in on and understand how underlying repetitive patterns are playing a part in your current distress. Part of my role in the therapy is to offer you a safe and secure space in which to reflect on those patterns, and help you relearn ways to relate that rely less on coping, and more on living.

How hypnotherapy can help you

Hypnotherapy utilises the unconscious mind's natural desire to protect you from perceived threats. We develop defensive behaviours that once had a function that was helpful or meaningful to the unconscious. For example, nail-biting may have emerged as a way of dealing with anxiety in childhood. In adulthood, that former coping mechanism is no longer useful, but can be harmful.
Hypnosis, helps to dive straight in to the unconscious and to help you find relief from something that no longer serves its original purpose.

Hypnosis can help you:
Stop Smoking
Overcome Phobias
Manage Overeating
Deal with Anxiety
Reduce PTSD Symptoms
Stop Nail Biting
Manage Pain
