I can't say enough good things about my experience with Gregory. First off, he gave me a full education on diamonds and let me know the difference between the letters on the grading system, and which ones were more important than others. He did the opposite of upselling - he just wanted to make sure I got the best value for my budget. He took his time with me, and I never felt rushed or pressured. He also goes completely above and beyond - once I bought the ring, he let me know that was just the beginning. He is always there for free cleaning/polishing, resizing...whatever we need. I only have good things to say about Gregory and his business Jacob Mercari. Beyond being an expert in his field with training in Belgium, Gregory was super helpful, thoughtful, and personable in the process of sourcing the right diamond for our engagement ring. We sourced our engagement and wedding bands from him and would go back / recommend that anyone looking for diamonds/engagement jewelry seek out his services. We also came as tourists with tight timelines which Gregory was able to adapt to and work with to get us our dream stone / ring within less than two weeks. I can highly recommend for anyone from outside Canada looking for a Canadian sourced diamond and wanting to combine it with a holiday in the area. Gregory is very selective of his stones, which was evident in the brilliance and beyond excellent cut of ours. In addition, Gregory has his own mount design which we find very elegant. We had a wonderful experience with Greg at Jacob Mercari, who helped us find a lab diamond to meet very exacting specifications for my engagement ring. We never once felt pressured during our consultation with Greg, and he really helped us understand the buying process. I am quite an educated diamond buyer and I was very impressed by Greg's knowledge and his access to a wide variety of diamonds. Lab diamonds are still a small part of the market, but he was able to import two diamonds for us to consider (still with no obligation to buy!). I loved both diamonds and am so happy with my ring. The advantage of going with a lab diamond is that they are much more affordable but are visually, chemically, and structurally identical to mined diamonds. Greg gave us a full rendering of the ring for me to approve beforehand, which gave me confidence in our design choices. I LOVE my ring and it looks like it cost almost double what it did (in my opinion), because lab diamonds are a very economical choice. I highly recommend going with Jacob Mercari for your engagement ring, whether you're looking for a lab or mined diamond. I did a lot of self research on diamonds, but more importantly on Toronto’s best engagement ring / jewelry designer. I narrowed it down to a few, and then met with 3 of them to decide whom to go with. After reading his reviews and meeting him in person for my initial consultation, Greg easily ranked as the top choice. He was humble, honest and trustworthy. Furthermore I loved his designs and his openness - he never made me feel pressured during the process. We selected some diamonds after we narrowed it down based on my budget and wishes. Greg nailed it - he showed me diamonds perfectly meeting all criteria. They were all stellar, including his lab created choices. In the end I chose a beautiful mined diamond. The design process was easy, Greg delivered on all my wishes - and we even included my girlfriend (now fiancé) at a stage. Greg created a beautiful ring! I felt included and communicated to throughout - and he even gave me some tips on proposing over seas in terms of safety transporting the ring. I was looking for a five-prong yellow gold diamond ring. The prongs holding the centre diamond were just the right width and height. The shank was calibrated to 1.7mm to make for a really nice thin band. The curves and transitions from the top basket to the main part of the ring were perfect and seamless.
