My first experience of fine dining was at Hartford House 15 odd years ago when Jackie Cameron was the ridiculously young 20 year old chef. Living in Joburg, I have been disappointed in PMB’s restaurants overs the years, so was super excited to be going to Jackie’s school and check out what the possibly best chef in KZN is up to in Hilton now that they do brunches from Wednesday till Sunday. I had high expectations going there for a family birthday. OMW, they did not disappoint. From the welcome by Dale our host, till our reluctant departure via the deli we were blown away. The 3 course meal at R175 is stupendously cheap (the same at Spur would be R210 at least) and the service was exceptional. It’s the first time in PMB that I’ve seen champagne poured correctly. Sitting outside overlooking the hills towards PMB was so tranquil, and we were never rushed. My 7 year old niece wondered into the kitchens, and was given an impromptu lesson in cake decorating!! The food was sublime, the wine list exceptional and very reasonably price. I wish Jackie and her team all the best with this venture. More...
