Joshua is so much more than a great photographer. He's an industry professional with a huge wealth of knowledge. Joshua and his team (Christina - makeup artist and Brandon - photo editor) captured and enhanced my beauty inside and out. The moment I walked in the studio, Joshua eased my nerves with his warm demeanor. I do NOT like pictures and avoid them at all cost. This was a work necessity so I hired a professional and they delivered more than I expected. Joshua’s cues throughout the shoot brought my picture to life and made subtle differences as he showed them to me in between takes. Christina had all the makeup and talent to make my African American skin look flawless. I tried to replicate her application since the shoot with not much resemblance. As for the final product, Brandon used his magic to make my picture look just like me without a few pronounced wrinkles and a few other things - of course I’m so critical. For a moment I felt like a model and all because of Joshua but damn it is harder than I thought. Kudos to Gigi, Kendall, and Heidi Klum. Before I met Joshua, it never occurred to me how important a professional head shot was. I've been fortunate to have my work covered in a variety of digital media pieces, so I would hope for good images and use them as my own. I didn't realize that I was letting the reporters and photographers tell their own story about my work rather telling my own. Joshua and JA Headhots helped me change the script and put me in control of my own narrative. I had a work headshot done with Josh and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. They sent lots of helpful tips before the session, which was great since I'd never had headshots done before. Josh made me feel super comfortable during the shoot and far from being weird or awkward, it was a pretty enjoyable way to spend a morning. The processing of choosing the shots was very straightforward and I appreciated the fact that he had input as well and didn't just rely on me to make all the decisions. I came to JA Headshots because I wanted some good headshots to up my audition game (I'm a newbie to community theater, and am ready to start reaching for some meatier roles). These folks were great to work with from start to finish. Not having gotten headshots before, their list of tips on what to bring, wear, etc. was extremely helpful. At the shoot, I loved that Shay took the time to chat about what types of roles I am looking for and how I want to present myself. During the shoot, she was great about getting me comfortable, helping me to show different moods, and the like. I like that she took the time to go through the shots with me periodically during the session, so that we could figure out what was working (and what wasn't). My only complaint is that I liked the shots so much I had a really hard time narrowing down which ones to go with!Oh, and since I've started using my new headshots, I've had three auditions, and have gotten callbacks in all three. This is a thorough and long review, and it is also accurate! I had a blast with Joshua Albanese Photography, as well as the makeup artist Molly! About a week before the shooting, I have gotten the confirmation about the date. I procrastinated a little but Shay didn't forget to remind me that they need me to confirm before a certain time. I ask a lot of questions, especially to things that I have never done. This is my first professional headshots and I wanted to make sure I had more knowledge about how things would go. I sent at least 6 emails in a week asking about all different kinds of questons. Shay (staff) responded to every single one of them, and told me feel free to call. And of course I called. She answered my call with patience and understanding. She sounded very sweet! On the day of shooting, I was still pretty nervous and I was not confident at all. I am very self-conscious because I don't believe my face is symmetrical (and of course it is not, few people have symmetrical face). Overall, I just don't like looking at myself on 2-dimmentional photos. Joshua welcomed me and asked who I am, what kind of work I look to do in the up-coming future, and what do I see myself in. He shared what he experienced and learned when he was an actor. He was really easy to talk to. He also shared some tips about how to look good on camera when you take pictures, which will be used later in the shooting session. When we started shooting, I was still not confident although I felt more comfortable than I was when I just walked in. He was very encouraging. After I saw the photos he took after the first few minutes of shooting, I really felt a lot more confident. I thought I looked really good in those photos!!!!!!!! It's not that he somehow made me look like a perfect human being, it's just that he captured the best of myself. It still looked like me, but I don't notice the unevenness of my face so much! The rest of the shooting went really well! I wish I can put him and his camera in my pocket.The shooting took as long as it needed. We stopped and looked at what we had a couple times along the shooting to make sure that I am satisfied so far. Oh, and the Makeup Artist, Molly!She was there the whole time before and during my shooting to make sure I looked good the whole time. She also did subtle changes on my makeup (lipstick) according to different looks I have. She kept everything clean (brushed and other utensils) and used great product on me. Get a makeup Artist if you have the slightest doubt about yourself doing "headshots makeup". It's slightly different than what I usually put on my face since this is on-camera. It is worth the money! Oh, and she asked me what's my daily makeup routine like to make sure what she does is natural to me.Joshua sent me the photos we selected during the shooting immediately after the session with further explanation regarding editing via email. I had a couple more questions the second day after the session and all my questions were answered in time and with patience!I would definitely go back AGAIN next time I need my headshots taken. Had a great experience working with Shay. She was approachable, warm, and very easy to work with. There was no ticking clock on our session, and we worked until "I" felt we had enough picture options for me to choose from. I did not work with Joshua, so cant comment on him. Everything with booking the session, and getting my draft pics before I walked out to the studio was a great experience. Sometimes it's very nerve wracking walking into a new place to get your photos taken. This time I was not nervous from the first phone call!
