Calling in for a coffee on a very cold & grey day with fingers crossed for a dog-friendly welcome and we were not disappointed. We were met by a very personable young man who explained a) they were open for coffee, b) they were dog friendly (in the bar) and c) if we would take a seat he would be with us asap. Great! Eve's Bar is a lovely extension to the hotel, with natural oak, huge windows, comfy chairs and tables & a beautiful Christmas tree. We were served lovely lattes and offered fresh water for our four legged friend - Scamp. Other guests were friendly & chatty (mostly to Scamp ) too which was nice. Highly recommended and we look forward to returning soon! More...

We arrived around 4:30pm, ( we booked this break through the Groupon app ) a smooth check in, we was told how to get to our room which was a very short walk from reception ( we had a courtyard room ), first impressions were nice reception, polite & courteous receptionist, courtyard area to rooms not to well maintained, brick weave was grubby could of done with a pressure wash as it gave a wrong impression of what was to come, however once we got the key in our door & i say that as there was a faulty light in the passage way so we could not see our Room 4 to start or the keyhole , it got better, Room was large , warm, spacious, laid out well, had tea/coffee etc, clean towels nice bedding & a comfy bed, we had booked 2 nights with breakfast & dinner on 1st night in the deal, we booked dinner for 7:15, a beautiful dining area of wooden beams, wooden floors & light , airy with a relaxed ambience, ( could of done with some very low background music though), staff were polite & attentive, food was excellent, wine reasonably priced for such a move venue, the next day we had breakfast, choice of cereals & fruit, yogurts, croissants & pastries, then an option for full english or various other tasty options, we had the full english both days which was very good, the breakfast staff again were good, polite , friendly & most of all smiled & looked happy, this was the case with all the staff we met, happy & smiley, we walked around the grounds which are well kept & pretty|summing up our break, 10/10, would definitely stay again, only 2 comments we would make to the hotel were, pressure wash the paths/courtyard areas to improve the look only & put a small table in the room between the chairs in the courtyard rooms so you can put your coffee cup down / wine glass down if watching tv, ||Thank you Ivy House Country Hotel for a fabulous stay,

Service was outstanding especially Nicky on our second evening and Angela on both breakfast mornings who was particularly welcoming and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Nice walks to Oulton Broad and some lovely villages near by. Lowestoft was quite sad and grim because of the lack of investment in the town centre. we arrived here on Sunday after a long drive. The unmade road to the hotel could do with having some of the larger potholes filled but there was plenty of room to park . The hotel looked fine, our bedroom was very large, spotlessly clean (as was the rest of the hotel)and well furnished including a trouser press and a very thoughtful umbrella.Plenty of hot water, crisp white towels and a large ,firm double bed.||We had booked for an evening meal in The Crooked Barn, which is a magnificently restored building.I was a disappointed to be offered the Sunday lunch menu (this was at 7.30 and we were the last diners),and queried whether or not we would be served with tired leftovers from 12 o'clock. I was assured that it would be fine but sadly it turned out to be as expected,a plate piled high with soggy vegetables, some rather grey looking beef and topped off by an even soggier Yorkshire pudding. To cap it all it was smothered in a dark, thick powdered gravy. As there were no options other than Sunday lunch on the menu we picked at it but left most.As we were the last diners and there were no staff visible we left without comment.Such a shame because the next evening I was served with an excellent sea bass with pea risotto and everything was fine.I did discus our disappointment with a member of staff who was sympathetic and said he would try to get a bill reduction but nothing transpired. My only other gripe was being charged £9.90 for a glass of Sauvignan Blanc which I considered to be extortionate!||Having said all that I would thoroughly recommend the hotel, the staff were all brilliant, great location, excellent room etc.Just don't check in on a Sunday evening!||I forgot to mention the lovely cooked breakfasts, freshly cooked to order and served up by the ever cheerful Angela. Manager Keith and his team provided a friendly, enthusiastic service. On a Travelzoo deal our room was upgraded to a suite which was spacious, comfortable and clean with views to the pretty garden and glimpses of the water at Oulton Broad. From the moment we arrived all the staff were really welcoming. The restaurant meals were far better than expected with an adventurous menu including cannon of lamb which was served with a panache of tasty, well cooked vegetables and sea bass alongside a risotto packed with asparagus, samphire, courgette and peas. The desserts were delicious and even the coffee was served with some of the chef’s chocolates. We ended up going back for Sunday lunch after checking out as the menu was so enticing. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and in particular Mathew the barman.
