Q&As

The opportunity to work with people who are in need of my assistance. I love challenges and work just as hard as the people I counsel.

I saw a need for mental health and divorce counselling and knew this was an area I could really make a difference.

I think clients would appreciate my years of experience and commitment to improving my skills.
I am honest and caring and genuinely want to give clients the best service available.
If I do not know something I will tell a client and look for the a solution that is appropriate to the client.

Absolutely! We use a scheduling program called "Jane" that includes a safe, secure virtual platform.

We offer virtual services and practice safe office practices by disinfecting surfaces and maintaining physical distance. Clients are welcome to wear a mask and can request that the counsellor do so as well.

Services

Whether this is the first time you have thought about reaching out to a counsellor, or you are continuing your counselling journey, you will find comfort, support, and compassion at Incentive Counselling. If you are here, you, or someone you care for, is struggling to find balance and a healthy sense of well-being. We are here to help.

The interpretation of ourselves, events, situations, and others, has a direct impact on our personal well-being and mental health. We can have opinions of ourselves and others that are based on habitual, ingrained tendencies that can continually attack our inner confidence, self-esteem, happiness, and view of our world.

Life also has a tendency to throw us curve balls. Unexpected events, such as the death of a loved one, job loss or dissatisfaction, feeling trapped in an unhappy or eroding relationship, or the experience of an unpleasant event, can all cause insurmountable stress, trauma, and grief. These emotions can “snowball” and catch us off guard, leaving us feeling helpless, depressed, anxious, vulnerable, and unable to cope.

The skills to maneuver these challenges may be beyond your reach, especially when these emotions are fresh and overwhelming. Reaching out to a counsellor can help you overcome personal hurdles, create resilience, and help you find the path to the life you want. Through this relationship, you will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to create transformation, hope and healing in your situation.

Finding a partner to share your dreams, joys, adventures, and sorrows is one of the most satisfying and wonderful things that we can experience in life.

That is why it is so heartbreaking if this connection starts to lose its luster and depth. Our busy lives with the daily stress and demands can chip away at our relational satisfaction leaving us feeling lonely or trapped. Counselling can help put the spark back into your relationship.

We are trained using the Gottman method of couples counselling where interventions are designed to help couples strengthen their relationships in three primary areas: friendship, conflict management, and creation of shared meaning. Couples learn to replace negative conflict patterns with positive interactions and to repair past hurts. Interventions designed to increase closeness and intimacy are used to improve friendship, deepen emotional connection, and create changes which enhances the couples shared goals.

The goals of Gottman Method Couples Therapy are to disarm conflicting verbal communication, increase intimacy, respect, and affection, remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy in conflicting situations, and create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship.

Couples Counselling
Some of the relationship issues that may be addressed in therapy
Frequent conflict and arguments
Poor communication
Emotionally distanced couples on the verge of separation
Specific problems such as sexual difficulties, infidelity, money, and parenting

Without a doubt, navigating divorce can be overwhelming, intimidating, frustrating, and downright painful.

Additionally, research clearly indicates that that it is not parental separation that causes negative outcomes of children, but rather exposure to parental conflict that places children at risk for poor adjustment both short and long term. If conflict is prolonged, children are more likely to experience psychological harm and find it difficult to adjust and recover. Incentive Counselling offers several programs to help navigate through this transitional time.

Divorce Coaching
Divorce Coaching / Counselling
This is a flexible program to best suit your needs. Some target areas may be managing grief, emotional regulation, developing conflict resolution skills, learning new coping strategies, and needing support while in this difficult transition phase.
The programs below require an Intake Consultation with Connie Lupichuk to ensure you are directed to the correct program for your specific needs.

Collaborative Divorce
This program is for couples who are keen to minimize conflict and know they would benefit from gaining skills and receiving guidance to make custody and other logistical decisions as amicably and cooperatively as possible.

Family Reunification Therapy Program
The Incentive Counselling Family Reunification program includes an adapted version of Bill Eddy’s New Ways for Families® program. Key goals of the program are:

To teach parents skills to help them make their own decisions.
To keep the well being of children involved in the forefront.
To avoid overwhelming costs associated with deferring critical decisions to the courts.
To avoid the adversarial nature of the family court system and to encourage a diplomatic approach.
To help children adjust and cope with their changing family structure.
As a parent, you will learn fundamental cognitive behavioral concepts, proactive coping strategies, assertiveness skills, and proposal writing and gain confidence in negotiations. Incentive Counselling staff have training in high conflict separation/divorce and will support and guide you to navigate difficult solutions so that you can avoid the adversarial climate of excess litigation.

Your children will have the opportunity to process the changing dynamic of their family system and learn coping strategies to manage strong emotions.

Our goal is to help you make your own decisions that are right for you and your children. You will gain confidence in negotiations and acquire skills that will help facilitate resolution. Our program will not only reduce the financial impact of a prolonged outcome using the court system, it will also encourage a healthy dialogue and reduce the negative impact on your children.

Virtual Certified Anger Management Course
Sometimes, it is advantageous to change behavior in a small group setting.

Participants can share learning and growth in meaningful ways and support one another. Working in a group setting can also help to de-stigmatize your issue, because others are working on the same thing.

If you have tried treatment, such as AA or AN and can’t seem to make it “stick,” then additional supports are required. Often, people attend these groups hoping that the support of others experiencing the same thing will be enough to change their path. However, many things often challenge an individual besides the actual addiction.

Addiction/substance abuse support without mental health support solves only one piece of the puzzle. Without mental health support, those that struggle with dependency issues “white knuckle” it to stay sober. The mental health challenges that an individual has chosen to numb with the substance of choice have not been addressed adequately. Support groups led by untrained individuals recovering from their own abuse issues are often not enough. There is always more going on, and if the underlying issues are not treated, then the person struggling with addiction, quite often, is set up to fail. The person trying to get sober experiences failure after failure and can end up in a state of hopelessness; thus, the cycle continues.

If you are reading this, you or a loved one have probably been there. Maybe this is your first step in your journey to sobriety, but maybe it isn’t. Wherever you are, we can help. Whether you have past trauma, struggle with depression or anxiety, or any other mental health issues that impede your success in sobriety, our Kelowna addictions counsellors are trained to help you. We help you discover healthy alternatives to your self-destructive coping mechanisms and encourage healthy habits. Our services are offered face-to-face in our Kelowna office in virtually anywhere in Western Canada.
