I got my son into Illuminate's program 11 months ago, after unsuccessful attempts with other programs in the area to get him clean and sober. I was somewhat skeptical because of the experiences with other places, but from the beginning there was something different about this program. What got my son's attention most was the therapist actually understood addiction. Not only was he a Licensed Therapist, he was also in recovery. My son had always felt like other therapists couldn't help him because "they learned addiction from a textbook." My son is currently in sober living with 11 months clean (the most he ever had was a little over a month), has a 12 Step sponsor and attends meetings regularly, starts college classes in a week, goes back to Illuminate periodically as an Alumni to share his experience, strength and hope, but most of all he is the son I remember before the addiction took hold. My cousin has been in and out of rehabs for many years, but was never able to stay clean. We found this place online and decided to try in out. Program was really good! We did different stuff then I have ever done in other programs. We had our regular groups, but they had their doctor come in to explain how drugs actually effect mind and body, we went shopping to learn nutritional stuff on labels, how to prepare healthy meals and did interview and resumes for jobs. I was in a sober living while I was in the program and have since moved into my own apartment! The stuff I learned there is still with me and helps me today especially now that I am on my own. Definitely something special...my daughter had been to 3 other drug treatment centers prior to coming to the Illuminate program, all of which made numerous promises and failed to live up to them all. From the very start I could tell that this place was very different, and practiced a level of integrity and transparency that struck me as being way above the bar. Ultimately though, my daughter (Sarah) had received a level of care that truly enabled her to address numerous underlying issues that we never even knew existed! She had been struggling with drug and alcohol addictions for nearly 10 years, and I only wish we would've crossed paths with Illuminate long ago.
