The flavorful key that sets this pizza apart from others is the use of fresh local ingredients. Pizzaiolo is a staple in our house. The pizza is amazing with great ingredients, awesome flavor profiles and the perfect thin crust. If you're looking for garbage pizza, this won't be for you. The pizzas are made in the old world style and taste homemade! I highly recommend whatever their special is for the month and, if you're not averse to meat, their house made sausage is quite the treat. Such fantastic pizza!!!The pies here are amongst the best I've had. Aside from the combination of toppings offered for the various signature pizzas, I think the real secret here is the dough. We were in Colfax and wanted to go on a picnic at a winery.  We heard good things about this place and since we are Italian, we are hard critics of Italian restaurants.  We ordered a pizza with arugula, meatballs and caesar salad.  The owner packed it all up with plates, forks, napkins, hot pepper flakes....Then we drove to Lucchesi Winery, got a glasses of their excellent cabernet sauvignon to go with our lunch.  The beautiful area that they have for picnics overlooks their 50 acres of vines as well the Sierra mountains.  What a perfect spot to enjoy a wonderful meal.  The food was all great.  To Kristin who said that it was overpriced, you are a cheap skate.  It's not overpriced.  And 3 of us shared the caesar salad.  So unless you used a pitch fork for your two bite salad, it's enough to split with others.  The food here is authentic, fresh and good quality ingredients. The pizzas here are diminutive, but exceedingly delicious.  Each pizza is about 11", perfect for one. My 10 year old loved her mushroom pizza with the tangy red sauce, while my wife had hers with the white sauce. My son opted for the pizza margarita. All are topped with what tastes and feels like genuine whole milk mozzarella -stringy, creamy, and filling. The red sauce has a nice zing to it, with a healthy dose of oregano topping the list of herbs. The basil on the margarita was fresh and zesty.  The wood fired oven had the pizzas done in no time. For the quality you get, they are very reasonably priced. Be prepared for a small seating area- it seats about two dozen people, maximum- but man is it worth it. If you're near Colfax, or just on your way to or from Tahoe (as we were), I highly recommend Il Pizzaiolo. More...

I keep coming back! My wife and I love real pizza (quality crust, sauce, cheese), and this is one of the few places that can truly be called "real" pizza. There is something about the dough/crust that makes me keep coming back, even after trying all of the good pizza places near Sacramento. I've had so many mind-blowing food experiences here! Their margherita is flawless, and their "white"/oil pizzas are also divine (normally don't like anything but red). The owners and staff are super friendly and knowledgable as well. Il Pizzaiolo is probably my favorite pizza. Their ingredients are fresh and flavorful, the people are  friendly and helpful, and their crust? Their crust, chewy and delicious, soft but crispy, is absolutely wonderful. The flavors are so wonderful, and you can tell the ingredients are high quality. Reading others reviews, I've gone to quite a few pizza places like this and not only is Il Pizzaiolo my favorite, they are definitely in line with their prices, if not a little less than other places that do not even have the same quality. Just had the most wonderful lunch here.  We had gone to Gastro Pub, around the corner, service was so bad, we left and came to II Pizzaiolo.  Best decision ever.  The owners/staff are wonderful.  Watching them in action with the wood oven pizza oven is amazing.  We got two pizzas, a  "red" and a "white" and they were done to perfection.  The homemade sour dough croutons on their house salad are amazing, with just the right amount of balsamic herb dressing.  A wonderful selection of beverages, including the white wine I enjoyed.  So clean and inviting.  Recommend unequivocally! Whaaat!!! Pizzaiolo destroyed the nostalgia of my favorite childhood pizza place that I have held onto for decades.  Thanks Pizzaiolo!?! They just had to create the most amazing pizza that I ever had the pleasure of eating. Wood fired crispy crust with flour imported from Italy and topped with fresh Wisconsin cheese. What a little gem to find! Me and my fiancé live an hour out of Loomis but we were In town for a doctors appointment. Not knowing where to eat for lunch, when we looked up recommendations for pizza, this was the first option that popped up, so we went! And we are so glad we did. The food was DELICIOUS. Stormy and I were in the area for a recent business trip and needed lunch. What a great find! The pizzas are top quality european style done in wood fired oven. I got sauce all over my shirt it was so yummy. (I'm a klutz when eating.)Interestingly, they have a great Sunday dinner special (roast chicken I believe) that looked super.My only Con: I'm diabetic and their selection of diabetic friendly beverages was poor. Very good ultra thin-crust wood-fired pizza. Very little resemblance to a chain-store pizza (not that there's anything wrong with either one).You don't get much cheese, and the toppings are a little hippy-dippy, and I think they could be a buck or two cheaper, but they are very tasty, and the crust is excellent. Sauce tastes very fresh. This is one of the hidden gems I'm glad that I've found.  Ordered the Margarita,it had very good flavors and was cooked perfectly.  While I was waiting for my pizza I observed the Chef making an appetizer for another customer.  I asked the Chef what it was because it looked delicious.  A few minutes later he came out with a sample for me to try which was a nice.  It was simple bread sticks from the pizza dough with I believe a little pesto, garlic, olive oil Parmesan and I'm guessing parsley? I took my family to Il Pizzaiolo in Colfax, CA based on an article I have read in the Sacramento News & Review I believe. Small location with a few tables inside but great view of the magic going on in the kitchen.My family chose the table closet to the action so to speak, and ordered 3 pizzas and sat down. They had complimentary ice cold water which was amazingly cold and refreshing. We ordered 3 pizzas, a sausage, a pepperoni, and a prosciutto and arugula pizza. My 3 children (ages 16, 11, and 5) devoured all the pizza. It was truly amazing and an inspiration, perfectly cooked from there wood fired oven.We ate everything and with full stomachs we left. Love this place!  The crust is just so different than every other kind of pizza place.  It is not thick or crisp, but just just perfect, sort of bite it off and it is an easy chew.   They don't lather on the sauce or cheese so much, but it is about the ingredients on top of the great crust!  This is his second location and looks like he will be opening one in Rocklin soon. I read about this place from the Sf chronicle which was highlighting good eats on the way to Tahoe/Reno. We stopped off in here and my wife ordered the margherita pizza and I got the veggie, price was very decent like $8-$9. This place is small so not a lot of tables but he pizza is DELICIOUS!!! Absolutely LOVE this place. Perfectly done wood-fired dough, and really creative menu, not just your average margherita. I love their "pizzas of the month" too! The owners are another bonus to this place. I try to do my best to support local businesses that show they truly care about their community, and these two really know how to make their customer feel special. Why didn't we know about this gem earlier. This is not crappy assembly line pizza place or Americanized pizza establishment, this is the real deal. Italian wood fired oven. This is not Roman thin crust style, but Neapolitan style pizza with a thin crust, slightly wetter interior with a great soft corniccioni (raised dough lip) and beautifully charred upskirt with nice chew. The young pizzaiolo knows his craft. Their dough had very good flavor. The ingredients are all very fresh. They have both traditional and seasonal artisan combinations. There are 8 signature pizzas or you can make your own. Their prices are amazing and a great value. They have an ample wine and beer selection. We had a bottle of their Napa white wine that was perfect, and only $22.00 a bottle. We enjoyed a Caesar salad (wish the lettuce was a bit colder)a side of meatballs, a margherita pizza and Cinque Terre pizza with arugula. Fantastic!!! Service was friendly and professional. What a gem! Stopped by on the way to Tahoe. We had the salsiccia and the apple bacon pizza which were both great. The thin crust is just the right amount of charred and chewy. They had a fantastic calzone, cannoli and tiramisu. The calzone was a special that was done with their house-made sausage, ricotta and mozzarella, and came with a full bodied warm marinara sauce. My wife and I have just eaten at this incredible Italian restaurant, which is our favorite in the area. You won't have better Italian food than this, although the menu is limited. We started with the salad and croutons,  which are excellent. We both ordered a pizza.  My wife had the Italian white sauce and asparagus, which was to die for. I had number 4, as usual, which included  sausage and red peppers. We had a bowl of spaghetti, which was al dente, and you won't find better spaghetti even in Italy. My wife is 100% Italian and she has eaten spaghetti in all 20 regions of Italy and raves about this spaghetti.  We finished the meal with homemade cannoli!  Obviously, we took some pizza home for later dining. I don't know what has taken me so long to write a review for this place. I have tried more or less every singlePizza place in the Sacramento area with a 4.5 star or higher rating and this is by far my favorite. The crust is chewy, yet crispy, perfectly charred for that extra touch of bitter. When you rip the dough apart and smell it, there is no hint of yeast, just a savory/sweet dough smell that is perfection. All of their panty ingredients come from Italy and they make most of everything else in house. And I adore all of the staff, they treat me like family and I love coming in and chatting with them once to seven times a week. Also 6 dollar margarita pizza between 11-3, insane. Wow. From the very first bite, I knew this place was gonna be memorable. The crust is perfect - seriously, PERFECT. The toppings are fresh, colorful, and delicious. Honestly, I think it's the best pizza I've had in the United States.My husband and I went with our dear friends, another couple. We each ordered a pie and everyone got at least a slice of each. The four we got were Salsiccia (housemade sausage), Napoli (chopped prosciutto, arugula, and shaved parmesan), Rosmarino (rosemary, red onion, and pistachios), and a "make your own" combo with mushrooms, caramelized onions, and parmigiano reggiano cheese.Every one was delish. The only other time I had pizza like this was when I was in Italy. The owner of this restaurant imports the flour from Italy to give his dough a feather light consistensty.   My wife and I come for the #6 Compania and always order one of their seasonal pizzas as well as their world class Caesar salad.  We are never disappointed.  They bring it very time. Lunch time price for a margherita pizza is $5.95, normal price is $8.95.  I have had a better margherita pizza in the greater Sacramento area but it costs $17.  So for the price, this is an excellent pizza, better than almost every other pizza, but something missing and I can't quite place my finger on it.  The gelato is also very good.  The interior decor is simple with light Italian music and the place is very clean.  Service is friendly and reasonably quick.  Great ambiance.Why 4 stars?  Despite being pretty good, the pizza is missing something which I can't quite figure out. Very affordable tasty pizza! This place uses the same wood fire oven beddas used they are in the old building where beddas was. They do not have gelato out of the case like beddas did they have about four draft beer selections where the gelato case was. They do have gelato but in pre packaged containers. I called a to go order on cheese and on pepperoni pizza total came to about $16, fast, good service and tasty pizza! More...

I'm not a big pizza person since I don't eat cheese but this place had me loving every bite. This cute little pizza store is located in downtown Loomis right by the gastropub for LBB. We ordered garlic bread and made a pizza with no cheese on my side :) The pizza is very similar to that what you would get at 800 degrees or other artesian pizza places. I highly recommend getting rosemary on the pizza because it adds a nice touch to the pizza. I was stuffed after half a pizza and some garlic bread. We parked behind the building by LBB gastropub. The servers were super nice and gave an at home feel to the place. They offer craft beers for you to enjoy. The inside of the store is very clean and good for meeting up with friends. This place is awesome. The pizzas are approximately the same size as those do-it-yourself pizza chains that are popping up everywhere. They are even on your table just a few minutes after ordering. The big difference, however, is the quality of the ingredients. The crust is so much better here - with the right amount of chew and crisp. The meats, though less in portion, make up in flavor. The cheese melts perfectly.I also always get the garlic breadsticks which I devour instantly every time I'm here...they're oily but SO good with fresh garlic and olive oil.I got a loaf of sourdough bread once. (4.5 Stars) Terrific locally owned pizza joint with great fresh flavors and a not overbearing menu. House salad and salsicchia pizza were outstanding -- as were the garlic, butter and herb breadsticks. Prices are great for the quality and size, though the ambiance can feel a bit too informal. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not expecting or suggesting white tablecloths, but a warmer decor would give it less of a fast food feel. That said, any food establishment in which you order at a counter and take a number back to table, is not a restaurant -- eatery, yes, and damn good, but if you're expecting something restaurant-like this ain't your place. Omg, delicious! Colfax is lucky to have such a great pizza place.  This is gourmet-style, fresh ingredients pizza.  The cold leftovers were even better. So pizza is always about the crust and sauce. This place does well in both regards. The thin crust has a good crunch on that initial bite and then a good chew. The red sauce has a good mix of spices. The crust is thin and so it won't do well if you are like new and like extra sauce on your pizza. They're very friendly and service was pretty good for a busy Saturday night. Great pizza for a great price. Ordered the pepperoni, margarita and their special summer pesto with heirloom tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. The crust was chewy and Delish. Full of flavor and oh so yummy. We also took a Cesar to go! Great flavor in the dressing as well.My only complaint: they had 5 teenagers working; all not very customer oriented. I had called in my order. They said 25 minutes; and I was there right on time. I paid and they said that they were still working on it and would bring it to me when ready. I waited ten minutes. I saw three lonely pizzas had been sitting atop the oven the entire time (intact they were there BEFORE I even paid.) I stood up to inquire and one young lady awkwardly avoided eye contact. The young man manning the pizza oven was even more so in his own world and the girl that took my payment opted for a break right at 545 (which seemed odd on a Friday night).Low and behold, it was my order all along sitting atop the oven. What a gem. We stayed nearby for the weekend and realized we hadn't eaten dinner. With some 20 minutes to spare they cooked us up two pizzas and a salad. I loved this place!My husband and I recently went to Italy and I kept thinking in Italy that there had to be more authentic restaurants back home. There are, this place lol. Their pizza menu was spot on with their margarita pizza. I loved their wood fired oven and their crust is perfectly crunchy but not too thin. The owner was so well educated about the ingredients, I was beyond impressed!They have all the traditional ingredients and menu items, they even carry Italian beer! I would definitely recommend you save room for their gelato. While I don't know how authentic sourdough bread is to Italy, I would still recommend picking up a loaf. My son isn't a big pizza fan but he sat there and ate 1/2 the loaf for lunch, we ordered their garlic dipping sauce for the bread, it was so yummy! Outstanding.  Il Pizzaiolo used to be over in Rocklin and so glad they relocated to Loomis.  The pizzas are delicious and the crusts are a highlight.  The menu offers four red sauced pizzas (rosso) and four white (bianco).  All delicious and makes you feel like you're eating in Italy.  The salads are fresh and simply dressed which is refreshing nowadays.   In addition to offering Moylan's sodas, they offer several beers including 'Ol Republic.  It's subtle but the music in the background is classic Italian music which adds to the ambience.   And no TV in sight which is a huge plus in my book.  You're hear to enjoy delicious pizza and good company not watch TV.  The restaurant is easy to reach right off of I80 and parking is in back. This is really excellent pizza.  The sourdough crust has good flavor and the wood-fired oven gives it the sweet, sweet char while cooking it fast enough that it stays soft. We had the Napoli and the Pancetta, both highly recommended.  The pancetta and mushrooms on the Pancetta are a lovely earthy-salty combo, and of course the spicy-bitter arugula is the perfect topping to offset fatty-salty mix of mozz and prosciutto. Really good! The garlic breadsticks are absolutely AMAZING! We has the pepperoni pizza and the Napoli pizza, both were so tasty. The prices blew me away! The pizzas are all 12 inches and like 7 or 8 bucks. Last but not least- they have a great beer/wine selection! The only thing that we wish they had was drinks for kids. So I would give the food three stars but I gave the restaurant four stars because the customer service is so good. My suggestions based on the food I ordered is the sausage pizza was perfect and I wouldn't change a thing. The caesar salad was slightly underseasoned and just needed a little more salt or something in the dressing and maybe the croutons. The margarita pizza needed more cheese than just the few chunks of buffalo mozzarella. There were so much of the pizza that was just tomato sauce or bare crust that I'm not used to in a margarita pizza. Rosmarino (white)rosemary / red onion / pistachio / fresh mozzarella / white pepper / EVOO            This is authentic Italian pizza so don't expect think crust overloaded or over involved pizza.  Sharing the salad and pizza was more than enough food for the two of us .  Real pizza allows for the taste of the ingredients to shine.  You can watch the care that goes into each pie while it is made.  The wood fire oven makes a nice crisp crust in very little time. My kids work here so maybe I am a little biased. I love this place! Love the people, my kids are loving working for them...and the pizza is back to tasting amazing! So fresh, leaves you satisfied but not overstuffed and uncomfortable. The gelato was the best I've ever had. I recently bought the barbershop a few businesses down from this AMAZING pizza spot. I'm not exactly sure how or why they decided on Colfax for this sort of food. LOVE. That is all I can say. For the reviewers who complain about the "lack" of cheese or how the pizza is "floppy", just please DON'T go back and "give it another try". That is how authentic ITALIAN pizza is. I have been there at least 30 times and their pizza is the exact same....every time I go. You should probably go to Domino's or Pizza Hut. That seems to be more your style. Please don't complain about the "black" burnt parts either, that is supposed to be there, it's part of the cooking process. Because it is in fire. I guess I might as well say that you can't get ranch there either, because I am guessing the bad reviewers may be the type to dip their pizza in ranch. People:  this is how real Italians eat pizza, I know because I've lived there, traveled there and cooked there and eaten plenty of pizzas there.  If you want thick doughy crust overwhelmed with toppings, go to an American style chain.  Also, there is supposed to be "char" on the pizza dough.The pizza is meant to be a whole meal for one person - that's why the dough is so thin and the toppings light - lets the good ingredients shine through and doesn't weigh you down.  You can share them of course if you're just snacking.  They are extremely well priced - believe me, I've had  pizzas in North Beach cooked by supposedly real pizzaiolos and paid $25 that weren't as good as this place.Love, love, love the food, the people and prices there.  Go now. This place came highly recommended from my family in Colfax and did not disappoint. In fact, it surpassed my expectations by a long shot. Usually when you walk into a restaurant, and especially a pizza place, the employees seem disengaged and uninterested in truly high quality customer service. The energy of the staff on 3/18 at 7pm was positive and comforting. They were working hard as the place was almost full and still managed to stay calm and kind. As I laughed out loud at the "no ranch" t-shirts and the locked up bottle of ranch on display I became more interested in the business and crossed my fingers they had a location in Sacramento where I live. This gave me my only disappointment for the night as the answer was "no". It took a little while to receive the food as you'd expect a brick oven pizza place to take, but once our pizzas came out the wait became well worth it. The pies were delicious. I asked a couple additional questions to the staff about miscellaneous curiosities and no matter what the answer it was always delivered with a genuine smile and interest in getting me a thorough and accurate answer. They were even supposed to close at 8, but when I asked if we should head out they said that we could stay and finish without scoffing at us like I've experienced at other restaurants. I wouldn't have blamed them for politely asking us to not stay passed 8 and this was the reasonable answer I was expecting. I only make it up to see my sisters and my mom once a month, sometimes less. This time I enjoyed my rare time with family at Pizzaiolo and it is an experience I will not soon forget. More...

Very authentic pizzas.   Not what you're used to from a standard "American" Pizza joint.   To start, the thin dough is very tasty--and due to the wood-fired oven, is crispy as well.  Toppings are "sparse"--as expected--but very rich and flavorful.  I prefer the "red" sauce, my wife prefers the "white".  The great news is that the pizza is inexpensive enough that we can both be pleased with what we got.  As a bonus, you can often get sourdough bread here as well--fired in the wood oven. Coming from San Francisco with all the hoity--toity pizzaeria and restaurants, this one would have no problems standing among them. I needed a quick bite on my I-80 drive tonight and did a quick Yelp search which directed me here.  I was very pleased at being able to get an excellent pizza  (I tried the pancetta) for only $8 that was ready in just five minutes.  Another reviewer said the pizzas are small and the crust is thin.  I disagree.  The pizzas are much larger than what I normally expect for a personal size.  I was pretty full after two of my six slices but I ate a third slice anyway.  I think one of these could easily feed two average sized women with normal appetites.  Also, while my crust was fairly thin overall, it was not the cracker-like style (thank goodness).  It had a chewy outer edge, which is how I like my pizza crust.Now that I know about this place, I'm sure I will return with my husband on one of our future drives through Colfax.
