We have been taking our dog here since we moved down to Imperial Beach a little over a year ago. We've always been extremely happy with their service and affordable prices, but today they went above and beyond. ..I had a very busy morning today with work, I'm 9 months pregnant, and my husband was out on a work meeting and unavailable. About 45 minutes before I had a doctor appointment, my dog came into the house with a massively swollen face, I assumed from a bee sting. This is his first sting so it freaked me out. He is a rescue, and it does have some issues, so it is not a situation where someone could quickly come watch him, or I could drop him at a friends house. All I could think to do was call IB Pet Hospital. Maureen was so calm and helpful as I was flustered and started tearing up. She essentially told me they would help me figure it out and to bring him by on my way to my appointment.When I showed up, they were obviously busy, and all of their kennels were already full. To accommodate me, so I could make my appointment, they dedicated one of their exam rooms to my dog so he had a safe place where he could be monitored while I went to my appointment. I was so thankful they did that for me. Upon my return... I asked what my cost to them would be, assuming I would at the bare minimum pay for a daycare fee, which I was more than happy to pay for. They told me there was no cost. I almost cried again in their waiting room. They essentially helped me in a stressful situation, and babysat my dog for free so I could go to my doctor appointment.I am beyond grateful to their staff for helping me this morning. I just left the clinic and the experience was great. Dr. Kim Osborne is amazing, knowledgeable and really friendly. Also, she gave so much attention for us. Her staff is great as well. It's affordable, it's not expensive like so many clinics in San Diego. I think the first exame consultation is $48 but you can get the yelp discount. I highly recommend this place! More...

We just adopted a rescue dog and he stopped eating and drinking. We thought it was stress from his new environment at first, but after a few days we realized he was sick and getting worse. It was a sunday and our regular vet was closed so we called 3 different vets open on sunday and chose Imperial Beach Pet Hospital. The staff was friendly and professional, the facility is clean, and having separate entrances for cats and dogs is nice. The vet tech was great, as was the vet Dr. Osborne. Thank goodness this place was open on sunday! Our poor dog has parvo. The symptoms werent too bad yet so we never suspected that would be the diagnosis. Our dog was given fluids and injections to control various symptoms and we were sent home with a small arsenal of drugs and an IV so we can treat him at home. Dr. Osborne explained everything, and she provided everything in writing as well. We felt very informed and able to tackle his care at home. He's still lethargic, but he hasn't been sick since his visit so the meds are working. He's resting comfortably and hopefully on the way to a full recovery.We're so grateful they were open, the cost was reasonable and the staff were great. They even waived the initial exam fee because our boy is a rescue. Initially we just wanted him to be treated to get him through 24 hours till we could take him to our regular vet, but now we will be bringing our other dog to IB as well. Thank you! More...

We had to crate her midway through our appointment because she wouldn't stop trying to cuddle with the doctor and this was after they had drawn blood from her. I find them to be helpful and reliable - I have no problem taking my dog for necessary work, checkups, etc.  In the case of my beagle (and this is not related to this vet at all) within his lifespan he has been much more healthy since he stopped getting annual shots.  He had Beagle pain syndrome, AKA steroid-responsive meningitis numerous times his first few years of life and once we stopped with the shots he was fine and he has lived to be nearly 11 years old and in good health.  As much as possible I believe in a natural life for animals.  I have seen people spend thousands of dollars to extend their dog's life only by a month.  I have seen people who obsess about their horses ruin their horses feet and health whereas people who take a more practical, less-invasive approach have horses that live much longer.  I realize these people have a beautiful heart for their pets. If you're like me and are not rich, trying to turn pets into children can financial folly...So now that you know where I'm coming from...I feel as though this outfit caters to those people who would spend any amount of money on their dog.  Wear that as a badge of pride if you want, but the fact is, as much as I love my dog, we have economic limitations as I am paying my way through college and have a human daughter that will need braces and possibly funds for college.  They recommended nearly $2,000 in services for a dog that's 2 months from being 11 and is supposed to live between 12 and 15 years of age.  I'm not offended by it or anything, but it gets annoying having to text my wife when she's at the vet and say no, please do not sign up to drain our bank account on THAT suggestion... No, not that one either... no, not that one either.  Anything you bring up, they will respond by recommending another product or transaction.  It's sell sell sell, and I get that for some people there is nothing they would rather spend money on than their dog.  I'm not that person.  I'm not going to trash them with the rating because one, they are a really good veterinary clinic, and two, I see people that have given 1-star for really stupid issues like the fact that they're not an emergency vet (does it say emergency or all-night vet on their sign?!?!) I am visiting from Hawaii and not a local (so I'm not a regular customer). I needed just a quick and easy health certificate for my dog's airline travel home. Many times when I'm traveling and need a health certificate I  greeted by vets with "we are not accepting new patients" which to me seems so rude for someone who is just needing something so quick and simple for a healthy dog to travel home. Well I have to say IBPH was as welcoming as ever. Not only was Maureen the receptionist kind and friendly, she was able to get me in right away. Ciera the tech was friendly and efficient with her questions and health history.  Dr. Paar was equally friendly with me and my pup and efficient but also thorough with her exam. I had a wonderful experience taking my friends dog in for a check up. He ended up having an ear infection and they were extremely helpful with giving me information on what I needed to do to fix the problem (I know nothing about dogs).
