About

I love to celebrate the mundane, challenge the obvious and champion the absurd. With over nine years experience working at agencies,
in-house and freelance, I have had the chance to explore, discover and have fun all in the name of creativity.

Q&As

My creative process can be as varied as the projects I work on, but will always start off the same way. First there will be a ton of research, how can you stand out from the crowd if you don't know what the crowd looks like? Then comes a round of furious sketching and scribbling, I find I can get ideas down on paper a lot faster than on the computer. Then comes idea bootcamp, you have to be disciplined and focused at this stage as you need to edit down your ideas to a small handful that you feel are worth progressing. The select few are then re-created digitally and sent off for first round review. From there it can vary as type of project, the client and even the deliverable can all have an affect on the process.

As much as they can give me. Who they are, what the business is, favourite colours, foods, books, movies anything and everything can be a source for inspiration. Design is about answering questions (the brief) and finding connections (lateral thinking). What may seem bizarre and unrelated could be the catalyst for a great solution. So, any small detail, the stranger the better in some cases, can lead to fantastic outcomes.

Making work that matters.

Every designer will have spent a good chunk of their career creating flyers or leaflets, laid out a catalogue or retouched product images, and a ton of other standard jobs that require little to no creativity. And there is NOTHING wrong with that. These bread and butter jobs are essential and pay the bills, as designers we love these jobs. BUT, when an opportunity comes along to work on a project that can actually have an impact, whether it be locally, nationally or globally, it gives us goosebumps and gets the creative juices flowing.

The flexibility to manage my home/work life, for me this is essential. If my house and family are in order, my brain has some the room to let loose on a project and really get creative. Plus, it forces me to rely on my own instincts as a designer, which ultimately allows me to develop and improve my skills.

I learned early on in my career that there are three things at the heart of standout work; good thinking, good people and good ideas. With this in mind we can work together to create something awesome!
