Excellent Christmas lunch

Finally taking the time at year end to let the Tresanton staff know what a fabulous few nights we spent there in late May/early June for my "Big-0" Birthday. The rooms/views are stunning, and the service couldn't have been better. Likewise for the restaurant; for breakfast, lunch & especially cocktails and dinner. One of the highlights of our three-week trip was our afternoon sail on the one-and-only Pinuccia - a true gem! The skipper and his mate were fun and knowledgable. Can't wait to come back! More...

We recently had a couple of nights here and enjoyed the outlook from our room , which was well furnished with an adequate bathroom and balcony overlooking the sea. ||||All the meals served in the restaurant were of a good standard with good service .||||Now, this is not a cheap stay and I would agree with some other TA reviews that the property does have a few areas of wear and tear which is showing in a few ares but the standard is still high.||||My main criticism comes from noise in the late evening and early morning (5.50am) possibly from staff (room 5) but although this is a nice room with balcony may not be suitable for lite sleepers! This rather spoiling an otherwise pleasant stay. More than two nights we would have asked to move. More...

A surprise birthday treat. Not the cheapest places to stay but you pay for what you get and what we got was excellence. A beautiful room (5) and a beautiful evening meal followed a wonderful breakfast. Fortunately the sun came out for a short while for us to really appreciate the beauty of the hotel and St Mawes. Spent a night at the hotel, pleasant however showing signs of wear and tear. Check out the stairway carpet, also guard rails to the roof garden did not look as if they had seen a coat of varnish for years, likewise the outdoor furniture. A good pressure washer and varnish badly needed. In our room two pictures on the wall 70% covered by the TV, looks most odd.Windows impossible to open. Tables very near to each other in the Dining room. On the evening of us having dinner all guests were placed next to each other despite the dining room being only 50% full. Staff are rather brash. The store/staff room door on the first floor was always open and you could see clothing hanging up. More...

This place was as good as I expected. We have eaten lunch here a few times beforehand and wanted to see if the rest of the experience was as good - it was. We were there in a dog friendly room which was great for us (and our dog). The only thing that was slightly less than perfect was the choice of place to eat in the evening - as it was too cold and damp to use the terrace. We had to eat in one of the bars which was less than ideal. With a bit of effort then could let us use the first table in the restaurant or set up a covered and heated area on the terrace - it would be simple to do! More...

I loved my stay at the tresanton. Staff were friendly and accommodating. The hotel itself is beautifully situated taking in expansive views of the harbour. It was lovely to sit with drink in hand and watch the local yacht racing.||My own room ( maybe 10) appeared to be the top level of a row of refurbished terraces, it had amazing views but it came at the cost of a number of flights of stairs. We returned to St Mawes and the Tresanton after a break of about ten years. Having stayed there several times in the early years of the hotel’s existence, it was a joy to be back and to discover that it is better than ever. Our room was lovely and so comfortable (such understated good taste) and the staff so friendly and professional. We had some really delicious meals in the lovely dining room. The new beach club is a good addition, although it was underused when we were there in early August. We have already booked a room for next year! More...

Wow we had a really lovely stay at the Tresanton. My husband and I are passionate about great food and great stays. We always find it a challenge to find a hotel that can meet our expectations which is doggie friendly. We have put off a holiday with our cocker spaniel Poppy for a while because we are sceptical of the experience some doggie friendly hotel offers. After all when we go on holiday, we spend a huge amount of time in the hotel away from the city of London to relax and enjoy the experience and service so food and the room are critical to our selection criteria. ||Food - The breakfast is great. Simple buffet bar serving fresh berries, tasty granola muesli and pastries and you can order from the hot breakfast menu. We enjoyed breakfast in amazing sea view on the restaurant terrace with Poppy on a daily basis. The Sunday BBQ was amazing with fresh seafood and grills. Juicy, plum oysters, fresh prawns and lovely meat cuts - it’s all about the best of Cornwall. ||Room - it is amazing how much of a difference having the sea view. We wake up every morning listening to the waves and the faint chatters of the the morning swimmers. ||Relaxation - great thing is the area is not crowded and really touristy like the Padstow town. We took the dog out for our morning jogs, relax at the beach club and finish with an evening walk with the dog again before venturing other fine dining and great restaurants locally and round Cornwall. There are also plenty of great outdoor walks. ||Bar - we finish our daily routine having a night cap at the bar we can bring our dog with us. We met lots of other travels from all round the world. Met a Swedish American couple who have been to hotel on an annual basis for the past ten years.||Pinnuccia - if you like the sea, would recommend get a trip on the Pinnuccia to explore the Fal river and the local sea area. Lovely boat. More...

I haven't been there for about a year as we've been really busy and my goodness were we impressed by the new terraces. For a few hours we were transported to The Amalfi Coast. We lay on the second terrace with 4 other guests who were all staying at the hotel plus their dog. All of which chatted with us and made us feel like we were in fact holidaying too. All of us fully clothed yet behaving like we were right on the edge of the beach in our swimwear. It was utterly fantastic. Clean, nice nibbles, good service and the most beautiful of uninterrupted views. I came home to the same stress of too work to think straight and my daughter still has to go back to school but we certainly faced the music much better after our mini holiday. You are great Tresanton and goodness do you understand what luxury REALLY means., Thank you for a moment of tranquillity. More...

We stayed for two nights - a birthday treat for me from my husband, who had not been to Cornwall before. The hotel is stylishly decorated, but has a relaxing atmosphere. Our room was comfortable and had views of St. Mawes Bay and beyond. To my dismay, there was no safe in our room, so I carried my valuables around with me for two days. Breakfast is very tasty and on the second morning, we were able to eat outside on the beautiful terrace overlooking the ocean. We had dinner at the hotel on both nights. The meals were excellent and service very good. Slightly disappointed about the high food and drinks prices - I was interested the scallops starter for €22, but when I asked how many scallops would be served, the answer was 'two', which, for a seaside town, seems more than excessive. The beach club consists of three narrow strips of terraces built into the rocks with fantastic views of the ocean. St. Mawes is a quiet little town and seems to have escaped over-tourism. More...
