I had an excellent experience. The Office goes out of its way to help people who are in trouble. I really didn’t get much help from the Electric company to help me prepare for this situation. Nobody wants to have to go and ask for assistance or a budget plan. However: wherever the electric company customer service failed me giving me inconsistent and different answers for my questions or nothing at all, Swissvale holy family institute made up for it in spades. My cap officer Colleen went above and beyond to educate me and make life easier in a very stressful situation. Remember: if you want to apply for cap) Customer Assistance program) go early on the walk in hours. It fills up FAST. And: if you have a supplier like SFE ) call them and cancel. It’s not hard and it’s quick. However they can’t do anything for your cap without it. As a teacher who really has had a challenging time lately, I’m grateful for such a competent empathetic, and professional program. More...

I lived at HFI from 1970 to 1975. I truly owe the wonderful sisters for my life. Sister Jane Francis and Sister Madelyn were the mothers that I never had. Due to their love and care, I am the woman I am today. I ended up there after being in an abusive foster home and McIntyre Shelter. When I think back on my childhood, my happiest memories are of this wonderful place. Thank you for all of the hard work and love you have provided to all of the children that have passed through your care. More...

I went to Holy Family after a very abusive situation at at a foster home. I did live at McIntyre shelter before actually going to Holy Family. Shout out to Sister Linda Y. For sticking by a young girl who kept everything bottled up and refused to talk. I owe Holy Family for the woman I am today. I have values, morals and a heart to help those less fortunate. Holy family stuck with me even after I left while receiving after care services with Denny M. He encouraged me as a single mom to attend college so thanks to him I was accepted at Carlow University, at the time it was Carlow College and went on to get a masters. Holy Family taught me to drive and assisted me with acquiring my first vehicle. Sister Linda Y. has been the mother I never had. She read a beautiful poem at my wedding in 2009. Even when she does not hear from me her heart and door have always been open to me and my family. Holy Family institute will always be home. More...

I put a lot of time in there as a staff member from 1989-2000. I can only hope they are still in the business of helping families in crisis and giving children a chance have a future despite the obstacles that have been placed before them.

I spent a few years in Holy Family. I remember quite a few of the nuns. They were very good to me. When I got to old for Holy Family and was told I had to go back home to a bad situation, I believe that was the worst day of my childhood. I thank you, Sister Geraldine for all the abuse you took from me and helped to grow into the person I am today. Maryann Sanfratello Hagan More...
