Jan Edl Stein, the Executive Director, is a deep soul, deeply rooted in the earth, calm, sensible, insightful, wise, funny sometimes, a real artist also in many ways, a clear communicator also all of which has greatly facilitated my personal and professional growth. One and a half years ago I discovered a beautiful Solstice/Equinox all day ceremony that takes place 4 times a year at Green Gulch Zen Farm Center. It is led by Jan Edl Stein of Holos Institude.It is a ceremony celebrating the changing of the seasons and of deepening into our own relationship with Nature.The morning ceremony is held indoors in a cozy yurt, with a wood-burning stove, in a circle, with an altar in the center. As Jan leads us in into a shamanic journey we are encouraged through mediation and drumming, and music from crystal bowls, to drop into an inner landscape, to connect with the experience of whatever may come up. There is time is given to talk about one’s journey afterwards.In the afternoon, after a simple lunch in the Zen Center’s dining room,We spend the afternoon on the beautiful gardens and land, observing nature as well as having nature observe us, and then return to the yurt to share our experiences and conclude our day.It is a full and rich day to honor the Earth’s rhythm, the changing of the seasons, the changing of the light, and the changes on a personal level. For me, these ceremonies have become a quarterly check-in time to remember, to manifest new beginnings and a time to let go of what no longer serves me.
