Dirk has a way of making the most awkward and unphotogenic people feel comfortable in front of the camera. He was even able to get pictures of me with my eyes open!!!

Dirk was at #SMCamp 2017 providing head shots of conference participants. It was evident that Dirk had an attention to detail and was able to effectively work with me to get the best head shot possible. I received my head shots in high resolution digital format in a timely way - and was pleased to find that he included a third head shot. I would recommend his services for any business professional in need of photography for business purposes. Thanks Dirk! More...

We looked at many, many photographers’ websites when we were looking to hire someone to capture our wedding day perfectly. Once we saw Dirk’s work, we agreed that he was the best. Having an amazing talent was one thing, but it was a bonus that he was extremely professional to us in person, as well. Dirk was phenomenal to work with – he took the time to get to know us individually and as a couple. To him it seemed that it wasn’t just the day of the event that his work begun; it started with the very first meeting. He kept in contact with us through all of our planning and offered advice and recommendations for anything we needed help with. It was a huge help to have our own knowledgeable insider to the Nanaimo wedding industry. Part of our contract was a second photographer, and after meeting the other photographer, Neil, we were easily convinced that the best only hires the best. They proved that to us on our wedding day – they got amazing shots, both posed and candid. They took photos of all of the details of the venue and decor which was important to us as we were so busy on our wedding day, and we didn’t really get the chance to take it all in and appreciate it. Dirk thought of everything for the wedding day – he brought cigars for the groomsmen at our photo session, and he brought hair products for the girls which ended up being a huge help after doing the wedding party photos at the top of windy Mount Washington before the ceremony. The final touch for our package was a ‘story book’ with photos from our wedding day with quotes that my husband and I said about each other and about our wedding day. It is an absolutely amazing keepsake, as are our wedding slideshow DVDs; we can relive our wedding day any time we want. Dirk went above and beyond for our wedding, and in our opinion there is no other choice for a wedding photographer. More...

Q&As

There is no secret to creating great images and having clients continue to use your services. For myself, it is always about getting all the information from the clients first and building a plan that is efficient , effective and one that gets the results the client needs, Drawing on my 30 years with photography and constantly expanding my experiences gives me the skills to handle most challenging situations and produce stellar results.

Typical questions I might ask a client might be, who are your clients and who is going to be seeing this image, How will the image be used, print, website, billboard, What is your budget of the shoot, Is this a rush job? What is the main message you want to convey in the image?

I love my job because every day is a new day, with new challenges I get to tackle. I love working and meeting new people and working with them to bring the best out of them when I photograph them.

When my daughter was born I took parental leave from my full time job and became the main care giver for my daughter as my wife had her own successful career. I decided not to go back to my full time work and continue looking after my daughter and continue to build my photography business into a full time career. I now have been full time for over 14 years and I have the best job, best clients and the best daughter ever!

Clients continue to use my services because of the quality of good work I continue to produce, the efficiency I work at and the fun we have together while working. I bring a professionalism to my line of work that is not as common as it once was. My clients trust me to get it right the first time, and I do. I guarantee my work to my clients satisfaction.
