We are an Interior Design company offering comprehensive interior design, space planning, sourcing and project management services. Rachel Richmond (Director) is featured on House & Garden's The List, a directory of 1000 design professionals in the UK. Her work has been featured in Good Homes, Scottish Field Magazine, Scottish Homes & Interiors and The Telegraph magazine.

Based in Edinburgh, we work with projects of all sizes and budgets and work all over Britain.

Our website is www.henandcrask.com and our work can also be viewed on www.nealesmith.com under Interior Design, Hen and Crask.

The initial consultation is free of charge and once we have discussed your needs we are able to offer a quotation for the job as a whole. If we are appointed, we put together a full scheme for you, presenting it using floorpans, images and sample boards. We also provide clients with a sourcing file, so they may purchase and carry out the work themselves if they do not want to spend money on project management fees. We can offer trade discounts on fabrics and furniture, if applicable. No job is considered too large or too small.

We interviewed a number of designers and Rachel from Hen & Crask was the most professional, friendliest and knowledgeable. Rachel went above and beyond for us and no task was too big.

Rachel designed our entire new build house which exceeded all our expectations. She stayed in budget, worked with existing furniture we had and made our house better than we could have ever imagined. With the limited budget we had, she made the house look exceptional. Everyone who has visited our house are extremely impressed.

Hen & Crask Edinburgh Q&A

Hen & Crask Edinburgh Q&A

What’s your interior design process?

Initial consultation is free of charge. I like to meet the potential client in the space and discuss needs, likes and dislikes. I will provide a quotation based on what we discuss and am flexible as to whether the client would rather pay hourly or per project. I usually put the schemes together within 2-3 weeks and then present my ideas to the client. I give the client the option of project managing themselves or I am happy to provide that service. If they are buying pieces through my trade partners I can offer competitive prices.

Which interior design styles can you cater for?

The job of an interior designer is to listen to client needs and meet their expectations creatively. I have worked as a designer for a very long time and cater for all styles.

What do you love most about your job?

I love meeting new people and I am passionate about design. I love meeting client expectations and going that one step further. No job is too big or too small - I love helping clients achieve the look they dream of!

What inspired you to start your own business?

I worked for many years in television and, when I left London, undertook a huge renovation of a property in Oxfordshire. It was during this project that I decided to move into interiors. I studied some short courses at KLC School of Design in Chelsea and used my business skills to set up a practice. Despite degrees in the subject existing, I do think the visual side of good interior design comes from within and you either have a flair for it or you don't.

Why should our clients choose you?

I have many years' experience in Interior Design and I am passionate about what I do. I like to get to know my clients and offer a very personal service. I listen well and will only push a client out of their comfort zone if they are happy with that!
