About

Heartfelt Harmonies is made up of two friends who love to perform together. Alexandra is the pianist/organist while Nichole is on vocals. They have a wide variety of pieces they can perform but are always willing to learn new songs. They would love to be a part of your ceremony or reception.

We hadn't ever been to Sonnenberg  Gardens in the nice weather- just one frigid December night years ago for the Christmas display.  We picked a beautiful day where it wasn't crowded.  Enjoyed all the gardens - esp. the Japanese garden.   The mansion had a ton of history of the owners- the Thompson's- with plenty of antique original artifacts for the historically curious.      Well worth the time and admission for a 1-2 hour stroll back to a peaceful time. What a great hidden gem! We've been coming to the area for years and never came here. The mansion is wonderful. My 9 year old spent at least an hour and a half and he still wasn't ready to leave. The docent was wonderful, telling him about the "secret passageways" and turning on the music box.The gardens were beautiful, especially the Japanese garden. Going through the old greenhouses was fun. Look for the green glass patches in the grass, there are mushroom growing rooms underground! We ate at the Cafe and the food was both fresh and delicious. Plan on eating here. The kids grilled cheese is "phenomenal" according to my 9 year old. The service was also very good. More...

Amazing tasty food. We had the nachos, garlic bread, and turkey crepes.  Everything was extremely fresh, esp the tomato dip for the garlic bread. You could taste every ingredient. The twist on nachos was so tasty, I was extremely impressed. The fresh tomato basil salad was extreeeeeemely fresh. I wish I could take her home with me. I would definitely eat more healthy if she prepared all my meals.  Service was attentive and great. We were pleasantly surprised and very happy we stopped by for brunch. More...

Sonnenberg Gardens is a mansion sitting on a beautiful property with expansive manicured gardens and scenery. There is a rock garden, some fountains and a columned pergola, and TONS of space to walk around smelling the flowers.Guided tours are available in both the house and on the grounds, but I personally find it most enjoyable to stroll about at my own pace. On my last visit, I walked around simply to breathe it in and take pictures. There is a cafe and from I've heard, they can act as a wedding venue as well.I highly recommend a picnic in the grass under some trees. More...

Sonnenberg has great events and beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces. My husband and I were married June 2016, in the garden, with the reception in the mansion and on the porch. It's a state park, so event manager is not a wedding planner; ie: hire one or prepare to be very involved in the process. Do no get ready in the bridal chamber in the summer-- the a/c is inadequate. We found our wedding car and driver at Sonnenberg's vintage car show; he had also been married at Sonnenberg. More...

My wedding was on 9/1/18. On 8/31/18, due to an emergency, the pianist I hired for my wedding was unable to play. My maid of honor posted on the Rochester area wedding swap page that we needed someone urgently. Alexandra was the first to reply and was able to come to rehearsal that night. She practiced and helped us work through the music that we had provided and she brought her own! The day was beautiful and Alexandra helped make it happen. She played beautifully and we will forever be grateful for making our day special with such short notice! More...

Last minute I decided that I wanted to have music at my wedding. I was not really sure where to go or where to look. And then I came across Heartfelt Harmonies. Thankful they were available on our date, I booked them last minute.
I'm not really sure where to start because I have been so taken back by the compassion, helpfulness and professional that both Alexandra and Nichole portrayed.
The Wednesday before our wedding I reached out to see if they were available to come for our rehearsal, without question they said they would be there. Both Alexandra and Nichole are genuine individuals who both love the work they do, you can clearly see that through the quality of work they display.
At the wedding Heartfelt Harmonies played during the ceremony and during cocktail hour. I'm so thankful to have had them as part of my day. The music was absolutely wonderful. We received numerous compliments. Thank you both so very much for making my ceremony and wedding so incredibly special. I would HIGHLY recommend hiring Heartfelt Harmonies for any wedding or party!! Thank you again! ❤️

My family recently hired Alexandra from Heartfelt Harmonies to play for 2 hours during a 70th birthday party for my mother. She put together a great set after reaching out multiple times to capture the feel of the event and even learned a new song that was popular on the day my mom was born. Alexandra played beautifully, was very easy to work with, and helped make the event a memorable one. Multiple guests commented on how great the piano playing was. Alexandra is a talented piano professional with reasonable rates. Highly recommend. More...

Heartfelt Harmonies we had Alexandra Pond who plays the piano for our ceremony musician - which I kind of booked only a month in advance and THANK GOD I DID! Alexandra was always keeping in constant communication with me, she was so wonderful to work with, and kept my wishes! I really hoped to keep the processional song, and the song I walked down to a secret, but was so nervous and concerned about the timing. Alexandra was so kind, to calm my nerves, she came to our rehearsal to watch the timing and how it was all going to go so that she could get on cue with our officiant (who was my grandma) and make sure that the timing of the songs to people walking down was perfect! I mean literally - it was perfect! During rehearsal I though to make it work I was going to have to have her play the songs, but she said "Absolutely not! We're going to make it work". Seriously she was so amazing. I waited until last minute because I kept going back and forth on if we had it in the budget to get a ceremony musician or not and ultimately we did not. Then I saw someone post that they were looking for someone under a certain price range and I saw her comment. Once I checked out her page I knew I had to have her! She is so worth every penny. Not only that, she was so kind to send us the sweetest gift after the wedding as well. You will not regret spending the extra money on Alexandra! More...

What an unexpectedly wonderful treasure to find in Canandaigua! A colleague and I stopped here after a local conference and wound up spending an entire day here. The $14 admission (with AAA discounts available for $12 admission) included the greenhouses, gardens, and mansion visit. We opted to do a wine tasting ($6 for 5 wines) and our time there with Donna made the day; she was so much fun to talk to and made some great wine recommendations (and also didn't bat at eye or write me off when I said that I didn't know much about wine or why I like or don't like different kinds). The wines on the tasting and available in the gift shop were all very reasonably priced; I think the most expensive was around $18 and they seemed to average around $11-12. If you do a tasting, you are eligible for a discount on the wine you might want to purchase (but the wine is for sale upstairs in the gift shop, so there is no expectation or pressure to buy anything whatsoever). The staff here is largely volunteer and they are woefully in need of more bodies - so please be kind to the volunteers, especially as they may require your patience. The mansion is a bit different from other historic houses I have visited in that you rarely find a rope and are able to freely wander through the home, with docents available to answer any questions. I would have loved a full on tour if there were more docents available. The grounds were beautiful to walk through and there is also a cafe on site with reasonably priced crepes. Overall, we had a wonderful day here and would recommend a stop here for wine, flowers, and a gorgeous old home. More...

My husband & I celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary here. We just happened to come on opening day. We were the first customers, and the " First Victoms at the Café of their 14th year. " The food was very fresh, our hostess/cook/waitress was fabulous. We especially enjoyed the wine cellar. Our host was very informative and pleasant. We loved spending time with her. The day was on the cool and rainy side so we took a tram to hitch a ride to the mansion. I have toured several castles and estates in Germany and I saw bits and pieces of it in the mansion. How lovely. Stained glass, antiques, loved it all. The greenhouse were awesome, as a lover of Orchids and all things tropical. We plan another trip in the summer months to see it in full bloom. This is a lovely treasure in Canandaigua that was purchased by the state but is maintained by fundraising efforts by the staff. I think that is important to note. These efforts are made by people who love this site on a small budget. This said, they do an amazing job. Reading throughout the reviews I was somewhat surprised to see complaints about weeding not being up to par. Weeds, as we all know, are quite pervasive and can take up an entire budget on their own. What these people have managed to do throughout entry fees and donations is quite extraordinary. The tasting room is a nice touch. My docent in the mansion was so passionate about the property- it is exactly what you want when you visit a historic site. I highly suggest this. If there are weeds when you visit - accept that this is nature, the very kind staff will get to them when they can. More...

We came on the 4th of July and took advantage of the N.Y. resident $1 admission for that day. The gardens were looking great! Our thanks to the volunteers for all your hard work. Once we entered the mansion, we spoke with a very knowledgeable woman, whose name I didn't catch. She told us a bit about Ferris and Mary and some of their history. We made our way through the rooms, marveling at all the beautiful antiques and commenting on the fashions of the day that were displayed in some of them. Some of the personal artifacts caught my eye, the cameras especially. The pianos and record players are in amazingly good shape for how old they are! And I cant forget the wood! Her desire were met through her loving husband, Frederick Ferris Thompson when they purchased Sonnenberg. Stopped her yesterday for their annual "Art in the Gardens" festival and enjoyed myself immensely. Have been prior and am glad to see they are continuing to work on the property to bring it back to it's glory. The house itself has more rooms open (yes they still need some repair) but more rooms are available to see. The house itself is huge with a lot of history. The grounds were nice, but due to this years drought they did not look that great. Also a lot of the running water attractions (fountains, pools, creeks) were not operational, not sure why. The aviary, and garages were under construction too, but the rest of the grounds were open. The Japanese garden and Rock garden/trail are a must see, so cool. It's about a 1/2 hour outside of Rochester so if you have a couple hours to kill, check it out, very nice. More...

This is a great spot to spend a nice day walking around the several lush gardens that the park has to offer. You buy tickets at the little hut in the back by the greenhouses. Admission is now $14 a person. If you have an Entertainment book, there is a BOGO admission coupon inside. They have walking tours that are given by volunteers. The tour is an hour and a half, and spans a mile of the property. The tour is solely based on the history of the family and the property, not about horticulture. I don't want to discourage people from the tour, but after about halfway through, I decided to leave the group and continue exploring myself, because we weren't receiving the type of information about the gardens that I would have liked. The museum docents inside of the mansion were eager to share stories about the family and history as well.If you are coming with small children or elderly, they do have small golf cart-like trams that take you to the different places on the property, and run on a donation base. The second floor of the mansion is not handicap accessible. After your tour, or exploring by yourself you can grab lunch at the cafe on site, or even better, go into the basement of the gift shop for wine tastings. They have a volunteer pourer, where you can taste 5 wines for $6. I wanted to try the wines that were specifically made at Sonnenberg, so I would recommend starting with the Sonnenberg Abundance. In general, I think that is a nice place to spend time exploring local history. Grab lunch on main street in Canandaigua, or bring a picnic with you to the gardens. Parking is free. More...

We didn’t want to do a formal, sit-down rehearsal dinner, so we planned a cocktail style/garden party for all of our guests that were in town the evening before the wedding at Sonnenberg. The grounds are absolutely stunning; lots of beautiful gardens and the freedom to roam anywhere you like. They actually drove all of our guests up to the mansion and main area in carts, which they all loved. The mansion in the center is incredible, and has a huge veranda, where we were able to put a band, a bar, several food stations, numerous tables for our guests, and still had tons of room to spare. Planning with Deborah was seamless, definitely recommend for a beautiful venue! More...

From day one, Deb and her team at Sonnenberg Gardens did absolutely everything to ensure that our wedding day was perfect! First off, you really couldn't ask for a more beautiful venue. Sonnenberg Gardens is like a place out of a fairytale, with lots of hidden gardens and places to explore on the grounds. It's hard to believe that a place like this exists in Western NY! I was able to choose from a huge selection of potential locations that were all equally beautiful for our 120 person ceremony and reception. Deb was also incredibly flexible and accommodating throughout the planning process, and was very receptive to every little request I had. She made herself available to meet with me and work with my crazy schedule, since I was planning the wedding remotely and only able to come in on odd (and often holiday) weekends. Deb is also a truly kind person, and worked very hard to make sure that no detail went unnoticed. Even when it rained on our big day, she worked behind the scenes to make sure that I wouldn't have to worry about all of the changes and could focus on enjoying the best day of my life. Every single part of our wedding was absolutely perfect, and I definitely have Deb to thank for that! I would give her and Sonnenberg Gardens my highest recommendation. More...

For a mere 12$ adult admission, you can escape to Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion which transports you back in time to a life of luxury & retreat. The mansion itself is stunning with luscious woodwork and a grandiose staircase, a breathtaking 20 foot window in the Great Hall, and a display of rooms that showcase the wealth and glamour of the original owners, the Thompson family. Must-see rooms include the library, drawing room, the upper porch overlooking the Italian garden, and it's always fun to imagine yourself breaking bread with friends in the elegant dining room. Although the mansion is obviously worth a visit (make sure you have time to linger and enjoy the small details, or you can even sit and play a game of chess in one of the rooms), the real draw here is the gardens. I visited on an August morning and my family enjoyed meandering through all of the well-groomed gardens without running into many other visitors. Unlike complaints from other Yelp reviewers, I did not have the impression that these were in a state of disrepair. If there were any areas of mild disrepair or overgrown areas, it only added charm in my opinion. The Japanese Garden was by far my favorite and if you look into the details of how the garden was built, it's crazy to think that Mrs. Thompson brought over Japanese workers to build a traditional Japanese Garden. They even turned flat land into the rolling hills that you meander through with streams and waterfalls. All of the gardens are worth visiting, and if you have small children, especially the Old Fashioned Garden. My toddler daughter gleefully ran through the gravel pathways surrounded by boxwood shrubs, and marveled just as much as us at the gorgeous array of flowers. The greenhouses are also fun to visit and again, transport you back in time. Although I have not attending any of the moonlight strolls, garden concerts, or Halloween carriage rides, I've heard they are all excellent and am hoping to attend in the future. More...

The tour takes you through all the different gardens and then ends at the mansion which you could also tour or walk through on your own.  Afterwards, we headed to the gift shop & wine tasting room.  For $3, you can taste 6 wines from the finger lakes region.   This was a great way to taste these wines without having to drive all the way to the wineries.  If you are looking to spend some time walking, and enjoying a quiet day outside, this is a great place to visit. It wasn't til I moved away that I really realized what a grand and special place it is.For anyone who enjoys gardens, Sonnenberg is MUST. I was a garden tour guide there back in the 80's and it is a very unique place filled with quiet spots and unexpected pleasures. Mid-late June is stunning with the Rose Garden in bloom. The Italian Garden is always impressive as is the Japanese. Don't miss the teahouse - modeled after one in Kyoto (if memory serves). The Rock Garden is very peaceful and tranquil. The house is over-the-top Victorian and has been restored after years of neglect and misuse - the history of the place is fascinating. More...

We had our ceremony at Sonnenberg. When we first saw the location, we knew it was the one. It is just beautiful there, and so many locations for pictures. I wish I could have had more time there for photos...probably could have spent all 8 hours there taking pictures. The ceremony location (white arch next to the rose garden) was just beautiful. For an outdoor ceremony, there was still a great "reveal" of the bride. Rachel was very good at answering all of my questions and setting everything up. Also, we wanted to take pictures before the ceremony, which is still not the norm, so we had to switch some of the schedule around, and they were very flexible with it, it worked out great! Rachel and the staff were very organized and kept the timing of the pictures, and ceremony running smoothly. If you find yourself in Canandaigua and are looking to do a bit of sight-seeing, you MUST check out Sonnenberg. The gardens at Sonneneberg are immense; truly a horticultural and photographic paradise.  There is so much to see, it's not even worth me typing out descriptions of all of the smaller gardens -- pick a sunny day, grab your camera and a friend and spend the day exploring the gardens, touring the mansion, and grabbing a taste of one of the local Finger Lakes wines at the Finger Lakes Wine center. On another note: Sonnenberg is an INCREDIBLE place to hold a wedding (speaking from experience, ahem).  Rachel, the wedding coordinator, and Katie, one of the wedding events staffers are both super organized and absolutely wonderful to work with.
