We visited here in October for an overnight stay. Having heard that it was remote, we were still surprised at just how remote it was. Fantastic scenic driver to get to the hotel and the atmosphere in there was amazing - like taking a trip back in time to the 20/30's. As we were only there for 1 night and intended doing a lot of walking we opted for a rear facing room. The room itself wasn't the largest but had everything you needed including a hair dryer etc. Was also very quiet. As the place is so far out of the way, we chose to eat in the restaurant and I must say the food was A-MAZ-ING. All staff were very friendly and helpful. If you want to totally get away from everything (no mobile signal and very limited internet) then this is definitely the place to go More...

Our third time staying here and again it was fantastic. The food is great and the location can't be beat if you want to get away from it all. On our second night the beer pipes had some issues so we couldn't get any draught pints. The manager arranged it so the bottles of beer were no more expensive so we switched to those. On checkout he told us he had given us a 10% discount because of the beer situation and a small issue with the heating which I'd not even noticed. My only disappointment with the weekend was not seeing the Red Squirrels! We'll definitely be back again. More...

We have stayed here previously and found much the same as before. The place is 80 years old and tends to show it in places. Management are making slow but steady progress with refurbishment and are to be commended to date. Some improvements despite being vital just don't show on the surface so it is not always apparent that improvements are happening..||Our room was a touch small for a couple with no easy chair or other furniture to sit on other than the bed which lost them marks but otherwise the room worked well for us and the bed was very comfy.||Parking could be a problem too at busy periods.||The bar downstairs was lovely in a period fashion and the roaring log fires very welcome on a chilly November evening.||The Restaurant was very good and service quick without being pushy which was nice.Good to be able to read a menu without being pressed "Are you ready to order yet?" Brownie points for that.||Our meal was excellent. One of the nicest starters ever in my opinion. Crab with chile sauce. Delicious. My Lamb shank was a bit rubbery in texture. The meat came off the bone alright so maybe the owd tup had lost a leg? Dessert very good too. Nice wine at a good price.||Breakfast well up to standard with eggs etc., cooked to order and not left out in a heated warmer.||Overall I like the place and maybe a better room next time will make the experience better. We only had the one night so can't expect the best room. More...

Have just spent 2 nights at this lovely quirky hotel and it was brilliant. Mobile signal wasn’t good and WiFi was spotty which is great so you can just relax. We stayed in the Burbank suite with our own balcony which was great sitting looking out to the lake after a long day walking. Food in the hotel was good. There was a power cut on our last day so only a continental breakfast provided which was fine and breakfast was deducted for our bill. Would definitely return and recommend. More...

This place is a gem, perched above the reservoir at Haweswater in one of the most peaceful settings I have ever stayed in, the hotel is second to none. We booked an accessible room to accommodate the wheelchair, and what a good move this was. We don’t always do that, we just make sure we have access to a room, IE ground floor, or a lift available. This sounded to good to be true, so we tried it, and it was. We are used to travelling with a wheelchair and also used to the fact that not all places are adapted for them. The only downside here was the slightly uneven path at the front of the hotel, but bearing in mind it’s an old building and wasn’t built to cater for wheelchairs, this wasn’t a problem. Access to the room was brilliant as was access to the main body of the hotel. The hotel was built, I think, in 1937, when the reservoir was created. It does need bits doing here and there, but what old building doesn’t, there were no major faults at all. The staff were brilliant, I didn’t get any names, but you know who you are. The manager on duty was great with his local knowledge and advice, as was the Polish lady who helped us out no end, despite her piromanical tendencies, she keeps a very good open fire in the bar. The restaurant was superb, the food was mouth-wateringly excellent, both breakfast and evening dinner. I loved the fact breakfast was cooked to order, and not sat in trays on the usual buffet bar you get at a lot of hotels. Thank you all at the hotel. More...

We managed to spot lots of deer and stag on the hills with the binoculars provided. Our stay was very good, and there was a fantastic breakfast included in the price. My only gripe was that the room we were put in seemed very small and cramped, but this isn’t to say all the other rooms were like this one. I don’t think I can put into words how special The Haweswater is! My husband and I got married at the hotel a few weeks ago and I can’t believe how much genuine care and warmth we were shown by everyone. ||||We chose the hotel because of the beautiful setting and the lovely individual rooms but also and mainly for the amazing team who make this hotel feel like home. When you walk through the door time seems to stop.||||The Rooms - The Art Deco theme tastefully runs through the hotel whilst everywhere remains comfortable and cosy. The rooms are all unique, many with amazing views. If you choose a back room there may not be direct views but still a comfy get away. If you make the choice to get one of the suites with one of the luxurious plunge baths make sure you put aside time to use it. Was so lovely for some relaxation before our wedding day.||||The Food - generous portions of well made local produce. We couldn’t fault anything we ate across the three days we stayed, or the countless times we visited for a meal before our big day. The dining room has lots of light and lovely views out to the garden and across the reservoir. If there is a cheesecake on the menu definitely go for it! (But the sticky toffee pudding is pretty amazing too). The breakfast offering is really impressive as well. I travel for work and haven’t had such a tasty breakfast in a hotel before. I personally loved the eggs and salmon on fennel toast.||||The Team - everyone at The Haweswater are just so genuine, friendly, considerate and caring. It’s so clear that everyone loves the hotel and that comes across in the amazing service they offer. John helped us plan our wedding and he really couldn’t have done more for us! I also have to mention Alicia because she really made our wedding so special! If you see her at the hotel you will know exactly who she is because her warm and bubbly personality is infectious. She went so above and beyond for us! There are so many other incredible members of the team who all work together to make the hotel feel like home from home. The service is real, honest, relaxed and friendly. ||||Top Tips - as the hotel is quite isolated the WiFi isn’t great in the rooms so be prepared for a bit of an online detox unless you’re in the common areas downstairs. Book for dinner in advance for a choice of dining slots as the restaurant can be very popular with other guests. Wake up early and watch the light come up over the reservoir - you won’t be disappointed with the array of colours you see.||||Overall this hotel is the best I’ve ever stayed in. The feeling you have when you’re there is second to none. It’s the combination of amazing setting, tasteful decor and incredible staff that makes it such a special place.||||Every single guest at our wedding couldn’t compliment the hotel highly enough. They loved it just as much as we do. In fact, they are all planning a visit back they enjoyed it so much!||||If I haven’t sold it to you yet...I don’t know what else I can say! This is a true hidden gem and if you happen to want to get married there, don’t give it a second thought! They will do you and themselves proud! ||||To The Haweswater - thank you! Me and my partner chose the Haweswater as our wedding venue and it was the best decision we could have made. Our wedding weekend with them was such an incredible weekend and I am so impressed by the Haweswater and the incredible team that make it as special as it is. The food was some of the best I have ever tasted, the rooms are gorgeous, the hotel has so much character and the views are stunning. It is clear it is a much loved hotel, it’s real and unpretentious and a little worn in places - but that is its charm and why I love it. It also just so tranquil with its views and roaring fires - the perfect escape from reality. ||||What really stood out to me though was how the team went above and beyond at every opportunity. Nothing was too much trouble for them. John, Ben, Jess, Alicia, Charlotte and everybody else we met were just themselves, they were genuine, friendly and welcoming and let us make our wedding really us. Our guests all commented on the amazing service. The genuine warmth the staff have and the fun they had with the wedding was brilliant. I’m sure they were so busy throughout the weekend but they were always so calm, always up for a chat and made us feel like old friends. For example. Alicia designed special bar menus for us, chatted to every single guest at some point and remained upbeat and positive throughout. They weren’t there just to help with the wedding celebrations but were there to celebrate our wedding with us and that in itself made our wedding so personable, warm and inclusive. They elevated an already special day to something incredible and I will always remember them for that. I would recommend the Haweswater Hotel to anyone looking for a special getaway and would definitely recommend them for a couple looking for the perfect wedding venue. More...
