What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
Great photographers must first learn the technical side of things - focus, lighting, composition etc. Once you've mastered the technicals, and can make sure that every image is perfectly in focus, lit properly and composed well, then you can start focusing on the individual qualities of what you're shooting.
At Havelock Photography our pros are technically proficient, they are pros! So they can spend their time focusing on YOU, on your pictures. Whether that's getting professional business portraits or creating images which encapsulate all of your brand values, we tailor every image and every experience to your personal needs.
We have been operating as a company for eight years, but each of our pros has been working as professional photographers for more than ten years. And that means experience. Experience is essential for a photographer, so that we can advise you on how best to get the images you want. Every single image ever taken is slightly different. The only time you get two completely identical images is when one is a straight copy of another. Otherwise, there will always be tiny tiny differences, in facial expression, or lighting or composition or positioning. So experience, and having faced every situation before, is the key to making sure that we get the very best photographs, every time, no matter what the situation.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
We want to talk to you lots before your shoot. The big questions are:
What do you want to do with your photos or videos? Do you want to share them on Facebook, use them in an advertising campaign, post on YouTube, pay for ad space on broadcast TV... ? We tailor your content to what you want to use them for.
And of course we ask you about your shoot. Do you want it to be fun, relaxed, quick, business like... ? The photoshoot is the first part of your experience, and that needs to be a good experience for you. So that's important to us too.
What do you love most about your job?
We love creating spectacular content which drives engagement. And we love people telling us how much of an impact our content has made to their business.

What inspired you to start your own business?
We're all about quality content, and clients having a good experience.
Our pros have worked for other companies, I've worked for other companies, and I've never been satisfied either with the consistency of quality, or with the level of customer experience. I set up Havelock Photo and Video so that I could deliver top quality content to every single customer and deliver a truly fantastic experience.
