I think what surprised me more than going to church to watch a non-religious concert was the fact that you could drink in one. Talk about style points for that little perk! Setting: A beautiful "old church" with a large parking lot so if you drive to the venue, no worries about looking for a spot. The interior is exactly what you'd expect from an old church, but it is quite large. I was impressed by the amount of space for performers to use, and seating for the audience. Bathroom is on the basement level of the venue.Service: The check in process was easy thanks to event-brite so no worries about having to print our tickets. Just make sure the QR code on your phone is clear. The staff were very professional while expressing good crowd control for the performers especially after the concert.Seating: Abiding by the charm of an "old church" the seats are the traditional bench style seating. It would have been nice to stand and get closer to the musicians, but i'm just knit picking at this point. Overall: A great place to enjoy a lovely evening watching talented musicians. More...

The sound was amazing! I couldn't believe the clarity on the recording of the event, it was even better than the artists' own cds. The venue provided a very intimate feeling, while allowing for a good size audience and great acoustics.

I would love to attend another concert here someday.

I am a retired professional musician first of all and this was my first experience at ," THE OLD CHURCH CONCERT HALL" and it was a very pleasant expierance. I have played many concerts in my time at venues so big it would seen to loose the personal feeling to the audience, wish I could of had a chance to play at a concert such as this, we will defiantly come back to enjoy all the comfort and the personal touch with the performers. Thank you for a wonderful night of great music. Simrit and her band of muscians were beyond anything I ever experienced before, they all were simply great. More...

I love the Old Church. Everything about it is great. I guess the acoustics can be challenging. Usually anything with drums doesn't have ideal sound balance because of the reverb in the hall, but it is wonderful.

We got married in The Old Church a week ago, and it was perfection. It's so stunning, so unique and perfect for couples who like the traditional feel of a church wedding but aren't themselves religious (the venue is completely secular).

I'll confess that I first came across it on a Reddit thread of affordable Portland venues, and this was close to the top. We had a winter wedding, and it was just perfection.

The space itself is so beautiful that you don't need to do too much decorating, and being able to spread out through the entire building provides a great multi-space feeling for the reception. For example, in addition to the main reception hall, where people were mingling and dancing, some folks would sit in the sanctuary pews and chat in groups, while others hung out downstairs in the basement, which we transformed into the tacky Christmas room.

The Old Church did a wonderful job of working with all our vendors, and we could not have asked for more. Not only was it incredibly affordable, it's so iconic that whenever we drive by it, we can smile and remember our amazing wedding.

Finally, we love that they are a nonprofit dedicated to music performances, and are supported in large part by the weddings they host. So just by having this rad, beautiful, affordable venue, we are also helping the Portland music scene.

A+++++++ Would get married in again!

The old church is a beautiful place to see a concert, the acoustics are fabulous, the lighting is peaceful and the crew that run the place are kind and helpful. By far the highlight of the place however is the organ, this beautiful instrument recently underwent a facelift making it even more of a central piece to the church. Perfectly located in downtown Portland with parking attached to the venue it's certainly not a place to miss. More...

Acoustically perfect, delightful ambiance and not a bad seat in the building! General admission is much less at fancier halls, but for the money every concert here as a more intimate social setting because there is only room for 300 guests! Amd since it is a very old church in design not only does one feel humbled walking to get a seat, gentlemen still take off their hats, and speak politely to one-another! Highly recommended at least for us! More...

This is an historic building, with beautiful charm and a kick-ass organ right in the chapel.  It makes a great music venue, and they consistently book quality performers, so you're always going to get your money's worth. My only gripe: as a musician, I can't figure out why the soundboard is off to the side of the performers. A few times in the show (I've seen 3 there so far) the sound was WAY off (like booming acoustic guitar and low/muddy vocals) - and I asked myself whether the sound person could hear how badly everything was distorted at times?  When I realized they were off to the side, my question may have been answered.Regardless, I will attend future concerts and recommend the same. Oh.  My.  Goth. This is oldest church building in downtown Portland. It was designed by Portland architect Warren Williams. Built in 1882, Presbyterians used it as their church for 60 odd years.  They vacated it for a larger space.  It was later used by various religions until it became a nonprofit (The Old Church Society, Inc.) in the late 60's. They have restored the church, and transformed the space into a venue for a wide array of programs and functions. They have a giant pipe organ that sits front and center. The organ, only one of its kind in Portland, was a gift from the Ladd family (think Ladd's Addition) I'd like to visit when it's in use.We recently saw a performance by The Portland Gay Men's Chorus. The acoustics in the room were satisfyingly sound. They had a reception area that was more then enough room to host a small event. Wooden pews that looked original to the building had cushions to make it more comfortable. The restrooms are downstairs.Parking is on the street. The church was designated a national landmark in 1972.
